Happy Thursday peeps!!! Here is my MLB Immaculate Grid number 374!!!
This has to be the most random grid I've put together. There really is no rhyme or reason to it aside from Wade Boggs having pitched at least one game and a 40+ WAR for his career. After that (and Nolan Ryan as Houston's 40+ WAR Career) I really had to dig deep in the baseball card box to find the other seven players.
I rememebered working in the bar for that game that Reyes pitched for the Mets. It was something like a 20 point deficit when he took the mound. How I rememberd that Josh Harrison pitched at least once for the White Sox? I have no clue. I just did.
Evan Longoria for a 40+ career WAR got Tampa was a no brainer. He was their franchise player for many years. Mannywood dropped significantly ending up with Tampa Bay, the Chisox and Taiwan before hanging up the cleats. Joey Bats was also a former shell of himself playing in Tampa Bay and the Mets after leaving Toronto.
Mike Scott and the Mets had quite the history. Going back to when Scott made life a living hell for the 1986 Mets. They were convinced that he was scuffing the ball against them, collecting multiple buckets of game used balls to catch him. And they couldn't. Scott from almost single handedly derailed the hopes of the 108-win Mets. Aside from winning the 1986 NL Cy Young Award, Scott went 2-0 against the Mets in the NLCS with a 0.50 ERA, 2 complete games and 1 shutout. In total he gave up 8 hits, struck out 19 Mets while walking only 1. He was so good that he became the first player to win the NLCS MVP on a losing team. Any guess who was the second player to win the NLCS MVP for the losing team? Take a guess in the comments section.
Well, I'll leave you for now. On to grid number 375!!!

Ok peeps!!! I'm caught up on my MLB Immaculate Grid with grid number 373!!! For those one I went with an All Latino grid.
The easy lines were the Born outside the US 50 States and DC and the played 3B minimum 1 game. The Brewers and team lines was the hardest. The most difficult box was the Brewers/Cubs box. I had the last name Vizcaíno in mind but couldn't rememebr a first name. After I got lucky and chose correctly (when you put a last name in the box, you are given a choice of available players with that last name) I decided to look into the other two Vizcaíno players that I could choose from. The other two also played for the Cubs. I guess the 33.3% worked in my favor. 🤣🤣🤣
When people think teams that Jesse Orosco played for, Mets, Orioles and Dodgers come to mind. But I vaguely remembered that he pitched for both the Twins and the Brewers. He also pitched for Cleveland, St. Louis and San Diego. Need to add him to the list of players who played for 5 or more teams.
In all, I chose players of Mexican, Dominican, Cuba, Venezuela and Puerto Rican descent. Not a bad representation.
Thats all for today. On to grid 374.

Happy Friday peeps. Hope everyone is ok after that 4.8 on the Richter scale jolt that Mother Earth gave us here in the Northeast. Here is my MLB Immaculate Grid number 368!!!
Didn't I mention the other day that the Mariners have been on a roll on the grid? Here is Seattle again. Luckily I had a better chance at filling a line than having to bust it with Ichiro, Edgar, Griffey or ARod. Hall of Famer Adrián Beltré was a good choice for Mariners/Rangers. I dont know why I came up with Rick Honeycutt for the M's All-Star. He just popped into my head. And Jay Buhner? He was part of one of the worst Yankee trades that I have seen. He was traded for Ken Phelps who did nothing for the Yankees. What did Buhner do for Seattle? He bopped 307 homers and 951 RBIs and provided stability and leadership for the Mariners. He is forever a fan favorite in the Emerald city.
Now, for one of the best trades ever by the Yanks, 3B Scott Brosius is right up there. He came to NY in 1998 and earned his only All-Star selection. He was a pivotal part of three World Series Championship teams and was the 1998 World Series MVP.
And for one of my dad's favorite pitchers: Pascual Pérez as the All-Star for the Atlanta Braves. Pascual rocked the gold chains and the jerri-curl with the excited mannerisms after he struck someone out. My dad always got a kick out of him. Especially when he ended up with the Yankees.
Ok folks. Hope everyone has a great weekend. On to grid number 369!!!

Hapoy Thursday mi gente. Here is my MLB Immaculate Grid number 367!!!
Is it me or have the Seattle Mariners been on the Immaculate Grid kinda often lately. The Silver Slugger/Mariners box wasn't hard but I knew that I had to pick the player that would score the least to avoid breaking my grid. I knew of four players that I could choose from: Griffey Jr, Ichiro, Edgar Martinez and A-Rod. Luckily A-Rod got me just 8%. I'm sure the other three had higher votes counts.
Its not often I get to use Hall of Famers Gary Carter and Ozzie Smith. Ozzie was definitely an ace in the hole here since he wasn't known for his offensive prowess.
I was also surprised that Kevin McReynolds score so low for the Royals/Mets box. I'm sure David Cone and Brett Saberhagen would had higher votes than McReynolds, but I think 2% is a bit low. Staying with the Royals, this is the first time I've used Steve "Bye-Bye" Balboni and Buddy Biancalana.
Well, that's all for now. On to the next round of Opening Days and grid number 368!!!

Holy shit, Ian Hamilton is like the Iceman out there on the mound!!! Today was the first time I've actually paid attention to how he pitches. Man, he has ice water in his veins. Shows no emotion. I like it.

Happy Humpday Folks. Here is my MLB Immaculate Grid number 366!!!
As usual the White Sox line stumped me. That Chisox/200+ Wins box was a challenge. I didn't want to use Mark Buerhle. I'm sure he would have broke my grid. My friend Eli showed me his grid and had Tommy John in his Chiaox/200+ wins box. I forgot that John pitched with Chicago. So I went old school with Eddie Cicotte.
Cicotte was one of the eight players of the 1919 White Sox that were involved with throwing the World Series. His best years came in his time with Chicago, putting up a 28-12 record in 1917 and 29-7 clip in 1919. His last season before being banned by Baseball Comissioner Kennesaw Moutain Landis was 1920 where he went 21-10 finishing his career with a 209-148 record.
People know Steve Carlton from his time with the Phillies. But people forget that his first seven seasons came with the Cardinals before being traded to the Phils for the 1972 season going 27-10 for the 59-97 Phillies. Lefty won 329 games in his Hall of Fame career.
I was looking at using closers for the sub 3.00 ERA season line. Staying with the White Sox, Bobby Jenks came to mind. I can remember Ozzie Guillen coming to the mound and calling for Jenks to come in by opening his hands up and out as big as he could. 🤣 Jason Isringhausen was also a no brainer for St. Louis. I could have gone with Billy Wagner for the Houston box but I remembered that starter J.R. Richard had a couple of sub 3.00 ERA seasons in the late 1970s for the Astros.
Ok peeps. Have a great day today. Stay dry if you are in the NYC area. On to grid 367!!

Happy Birthday 🎂🎂🎂 to the Immaculate Grid. Here is my MLB Immaculate Grid number 365.
At first I wasn't intending to do a person of color grid. But when I filled the Padres line with Joe Carter, Gary Sheffield and Fred McGriff, I decided to challenge myself to fill all the boxes with color.
Hall of Famer Eddie Murray has one of the meanest mugs in the history of MLB. And there have been a number of mean muggers. Murray is one of seven players to have 3000+ hits and 500+ homers.
Joe Carter had a solid MLB career which was capped with his World Series winning home run against the Philadelphia Philles in the 1993 World Series.
Fred McGriff will finally get his long due induction to Cooperstown this summer. Jesse Barfield had one of the strongest arms in the history of MLB. Gary Sheffield was aggression personified at the plate. His stern look and his bat waggle were fearsome to opposing pitching.
Charles Johnson was solid behind the plate and goes down as one of the best Black catchers of all time. Ken Singleton was a consistent player and his smooth voice is missed on baseball telecasts.
Tony "Cabeza" Fernández was one of the best SS to come out of the Dominican 🇩🇴. Teammate Devon White blazed the basepaths and outfield grass with his speed and consistent glove.
Anyway, have a great Tuesday folks. On to grid 366.

It seems like yesterday when NL Umpire John McSherry collapsed on the field during Opening Day 1996 in Cincinnati. He would subsequently pass away. This one hits a little close to home.
I was working a law firm im Yonkers,, NY and we were at a local bar in Riverdale having lunch when he collapsed live on TV. The bartender and some patrons were shocked and got up to use the payphones since McSherry was not only a native of the Bronx, but he was a regular at that exact bar.
When we got back to the office, one of the secretaries asked me what was happening with the game. I told her that an umpire collapsed on the field. She got hysterical and asked if it was "John." We told her that it was indeed John McSherry. She started crying. He lived in her building. Her and her husband Doc were close friends with him. It was truly one of the saddest moments I've beared witness to.
May you continue to Rest in Peace John "Big John" McSherry.

Happy Monday folks!!! Welcome to my MLB Immaculate Grid number 364!!!
This was both a challenging and entertaining grid. The played catcher/1B/2B/SS line was a doozy. C/1B was relatively easy since many catchers have also played 1B to give them a rest or to move to a new position. Its the 2B and SS boxes that proved to be interesting. I could have gone with Hall of Famer Craig Biggio for C/2B. But I think he would have scored high. I vaguely remembered that Jorge Posada played 2B near the end of his career. I also remembered that Russell Martin played a few games at SS while with the Blue Jays. Both of them scored the highest for me.
How often can someone pick both Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente in the same grid and only get a combined 0.4%.
Aside from those two legends and the previously mentioned players, I went with utility players for the other boxes. I instantly thought about the "Ham and Cheese Sandwich" man Alvaro Espinoza. During a Yankees broadcast back in the day, they were talking about how foreign players in the minors had a hard time with the language gap. Espinoza would always order a ham and cheese sandwich when they were on the road. When he was asked by one of the coaches as to why he ordered the same food everyday, he said that he did so because that's all he knew how to order in English.
And with that little story, I bid you farewell. On to grid number 365!!!

Happy Easter 🐣!!! Welcome to my Hall of Fame edition of the MLB Immacualte Grid 363!!!
Yes, yes I know Mike Trout isn't a Hall of Famer...yet. But we all know he'll be a first ballot HOFer. The question isn't if, but when. The remaining eight choices are all in Cooperstown. And its quite a starting nine I picked.
I was torn on who would gotten me the lower score for ROY/2000+ hits. I had him and Ichiro at the forefront. But the allure of having Yankee legends Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter and Lou Gehrig in the same grid was too much. Come on,how often can anyone choose Ruth, Jeter and Gehrig for the same grid and not have it utterly destroyed with a high score. Add to that there's Cal Ripken Jr, Jackie Robinson and Kirby Puckett and my score is only 41.
I don't think that I've used George Sisler before in a grid. I'm surprised, since for the 200+ hits box he's a no-brainer. He held the season hits record with 257 hits in 1920 until Ichiro surpassed it with 262 hits in 2004. Sisler also has the eighth most hits in a seasons. with 246 in 1922. In total he had six 200+ hit seasons
Well I hope everyone has had a great weekend. On to grid 364!!!
