Japan’s Mt. Fuji is an active volcano about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. Commonly called “Fuji-san,” it’s the country’s tallest peak, at 3,776 meters. A pilgrimage site for centuries, it’s considered one of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains. Its iconic profile is the subject of numerous works of art, notably during the Edo Period. Dotonbori is perhaps the most iconic sight in Osaka. The neon lights shining on chaotic constructs, the mesh or wires hanging everywhere and the crowds of people walking about. When I put Hiroshima on my itinerary, I planned a ‘ quick walk’ through the Peace Memorial Park to see the ‘main highlights’. When I first approached the dome it felt strange, but ok ... because the pictures of this place float around on the internet anyway. As I slowly walked around the dome, I started to realize its true meaning. There were people- all kinds of normal people like you and I - who walked or sat in the park. There were children running around in school uniforms, old people, families. There was life all around me. Expect in this one place- the remnant of a true nightmare for all of humanity. This dome represents destruction and death - and reminds us of how so many suffered as a consequence of this atomic bombing. As I walked further towards the Children’s Peace Memorial, I met some really senior ladies.. barely able to walk anymore. But they came all the way to hang a paper crane at the site - a symbol of peace. It was heartbreaking. I wanted to know their story, but all I could do was say hello and smile as I silently cried behind my sunglasses. I will never forget how one of then waved my goodbye, touching her heart and saying ‘peace’... ‘peace’. Visiting Hiroshima was an overwhelming experience. It deserves much more than a quick walk through the park. ⠀ ⠀

In ancient times, the royal guards of Joseon Dynasty performed the given task by guarding the Gwanghwamun Gate, the entrance of Gyeongbokgung Palace where the king ruled the country. Since 1469, the ceremony has taken place and its record has been consulted for the present reenactment ceremony. The reenactment of the original ceremony began from 1996. The gate guardsmen serve their sentry, perform the changing of the guards, and hold a parade. The guards' uniforms, weapons, and accessories present a rare traditional Korean cultural scene which is hard to experience otherwise in a big city like Seoul! #seoul #southkorea #culturetrip (at Seoul, Korea) https://www.instagram.com/p/BoeExaODe8S/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1fa28vb91yhbv
