The Luminous Harbinger aka Gigasoma

Described as a "hive-like parasite", this species acts less like an individual being but almost like an antennae. The spine-like protrusions work to send and receive signals between the numerous individuals within the hive. Oddly, the mix of signals has formed a consciousness that is then shared among all of the singular entities. The signals fire in a way akin to neural synapses. In doing so, the luminous harbinger (also known as a gigasoma) rapidly illuminates, which inspired the common name.

Gigasoma rely on attaching themselves to other living creatures with more motor-control typically for transportation and some nutrients, but some hives have found enjoyment in creating cult-like social groups based around individual gigasoma. The process of being hosted by a gigasoma is by necessity voluntary. A gigasoma would have little to no affect on an involuntary host. The luminous harbinger is one of a few hives that have taken up relationships with human hosts, while other gigasoma have bonded and found hosts amongst other species to mutually beneficial ends. One commonly recognized hive has bonded with various canine species and have been coined "glitterdogs" or "light wolves" depending on the size of the canine involved.
