Remember, the best way to lower your scores is to hit more greens, and that comes from better iron play. (As a rule, to break 90, you need to hit three greens; to break 80, eight greens; to break 70, 13 greens.)

Lower your handicap by working on 100 yard in. If Tiger play the ball from the tee and you do the 100 yard-in, your handicap will be 12. But if you do the tee and Tiger do the 100 yard, your handicap will be 4.

I didn't win a tournament until I learned to quiet my hands under pressure. Learning left hand pressure helps us minimize excessive manipulation of the clubface through impact. Too much right hand dominance or better yet, too little left hand control is a major reason why golfers find it so difficult to put the clubface solidly upon the golf ball with any real consistency.

The research on deliberate practice says that greatness (and don’t we all want that) comes from focusing on fundamentals. Most people engage in un-focused practice and end up as experienced non-experts.

In competitive golf, it’s not so much where the good ones go. It’s where the bad ones go. You’ve got to build a swing that will eliminate the big miss.

There's no shame in making a golf swing a primitive athletic motion. It doesn't get more basic than this.

In this scene from the biopic starring Glenn Ford and Anne Baxter, Ben Hogan makes his "last stand" at trying to be a touring pro. His $285 check for a T-6 keeps his dream alive and means he and his wife, Valerie, won't have to eat as many oranges.
