In most crime shows, Carlton would be the main character. A grumpy Detective who's good at his job and going through a tough divorce? Yeah, that's detective drama material right there. But in Psych, he's a supporting character to Shawn, the bubbly, energetic, funky, manipulative, liar who cares to much about weird shit and is genuinely a kind and caring person despite his constant manipulation. And you gotta respect that.
