Lesson 10. 이써요, 없어요
have, don’t have, there is, there isn’t
VOCABULARY
있어요 Something exists
있다 to be
없다 to not be
재미 fun
재미 + 있어요 = 재미있어요 “fun exists”, but it means “it is interesting”.
시간 time
GRAMMAR
있어요 ←→ 없어요
When you use 있어요/없어요 with other nouns, you have to put what you have or what you do not have IN FRONT OF “있어요”
EXAMPLES
물 있어요.  = There is water. / Water exists. / I have water. / They have water. 물 있어요?  = Is there water? / Do you have water? / Do they have water? 친구 있어요.  = I have friends. / I have a friend. / There are friends. 친구 있어요?  = Do you have friends? / Do they have friends? 시간 있어요. = There is time. / I have time. / They have time. 시간 있어요? = Is there time? / Do you have time? / Do they have time?
Just by replacing 있어요  with 없어요, you get sentences in the opposite meanings.
물 없어요. = There is no water. / I do not have water. / They do not have water. 친구 없어요. = I do not have friends. 시간 없어요. = There is no time. / I do not have time. / We do not have time.
Do you remember the usages of -은/는, the topic marking particles, and -이/가, the subject marking particles?
-은 and -는 mark the topic of a sentence, and at the same time emphasize the contrast between the topic of the sentence and the other things.
If you say “시간은 있어요, people may think you have nothing but time, meaning that you have no other resources, or that you have time, but you do not want to spend any of that time with them.
If you say “시간 없어요 ”, it means “I do not have time” in the most neutral sense. However, if you want to say “I have other things, but TIME is not what I have”, you can simply add -은 to the end of 시간, and the phrase becomes “시간은 없어요.”
If someone asks you, “What is it that you don’t have?” or “What are you saying that you don’t have?”, you can answer by saying “시간이 없어요”, which means “TIME is what I don’t have.”

Korean Verb Conjugation: Present Tense
*Note: This lesson is in 존댓말 (formal/polite language), specifically 해요체 (informal polite speech level), which is a middle ground between really formal and really casual. It's the safest choice for when you're unsure of what speech level to use, and it's a good place to start for beginners!
Explanation
The dictionary form of a verb is called the infinitive. In English, infinitives begin with the word "to" (to eat, to see). In Korean, they end in the syllable 다 (먹다, 보다). Before we can actually use these verbs in a sentence, we must first conjugate them.
In English, verbs are conjugated differently depending on the subject. For example, you would say "I eat," and you would say "he/she eats." In Korean, there is no difference between the two. One present tense conjugation of "to eat" can be used to mean "I eat," "he/she eats," "they eat," etc. depending on the context.
How to Conjugate
If the verb contains 하다:
The infinitive 하다 means "to do," and it can be placed after a noun to create a verb. This is how many Korean verbs are formed. For example, 사랑 means "love," so 사랑하다 means "to love" (literally "to do love"). The present tense conjugation of 하다 is 해요. Therefore, the present tense conjugation of 사랑하다 is 사랑해요. This rule applies to all verbs ending in 하다.
Otherwise, if the verb does not contain 하다, remove the ending 다 so that you are left with the verb stem. Then, refer to the following rules.
If the stem ends in a consonant:
Does the stem contain the vowel 아 or 오?
Yes -> add the ending 아요
No -> add the ending 어요
For example, the stem of 먹다 (to eat) is 먹. This stem does not contain the vowel 아 or 오, so add the ending 어요. The present tense conjugation of 먹다 is 먹어요.
If the stem ends in a vowel:
If the stem ends in 아 or 어, just add 요. For example, the stem of 가다 (to go) is 가. Add 요 to get 가요.
If the stem ends in 오, combine the vowels 오 and 아 into 와, then add 요. For example, the stem of 보다 (to see) is 보. Combine 오 with 아, followed by 요, to get 봐요.
If the stem ends in 우, combine the vowels 우 and 어 into 워, then add 요. For example, the stem of 배우다 (to learn) is 배우. Combine 우 with 어, followed by 요, to get 배워요.
If the stem ends in 으, replace the vowel 으 with 어, then add 요. For example, the stem of 쓰다 (to write) is 쓰. Replace 으 with 어, followed by 요, to get 써요.
If the stem ends in 이, combine the vowels 이 and 어 into 여, then add 요. For example, the stem of 마시다 (to drink) is 마시. Combine 이 with 어, followed by 요, to get 마셔요.
If the stem ends in 애, just add 요. For example, the stem of 내다 (to pay) is 내. Add 요 to get 내요.
This is a lot, so take your time memorizing each rule and don't get discouraged if it's difficult at first! In the next conjugation lesson, we'll go over past tense.

Hii guys!! I decided to make this tutorial for online Korean learning, this is a method my Korean teacher gave us, is completely free, really easy to use, and fun! Made this specially for @diaduithannah, hope you like it! 1. You must enter the page sejonghakdang.org and create an account. You can set it for it to be in english so it is easier to use.
Tumblr media
2. Click on: Create an account
Tumblr media
3. Once in there, click on the grey mark points so they turn blue, and click on General Membership Signup, if you want you can use the Social Media one but I was taught this method.
Tumblr media
4. Fill in all the information and remember to select that you are a Student
Tumblr media
5. Confirm your accont and go back to the home page
Tumblr media
6. Once in the home page, click on Learn and Standard Curriculum
Tumblr media
7. Go to the bottom of the page for the beginners option, if you are more advanced look for the one that suits you
Tumblr media
8.  There will be an option bar, choose Learn.
Tumblr media
9. A tab will open up. Click on the korean “start”, this page will give you animations, conversations, audio, explanations, and exercises for you to practice grammar and vocabulary.
Tumblr media
10. This is a little extra, but I would recommend for you to already know how to read Hangul (korean) in case you don’t know and you want to practice deeper the exercises, the page offers textbooks you can print. Click on search and select the option Sejong Korean Workbook in the ebook section. Choose the one that suits you. The one I pointed is for beginners and explains how to read Hangul! However I do recommend watching videos for learning Hangul as well.

The 50th Law
The 50th Law (Curtis Jackson aka 50 Cent)
The greatest fear people have is that of being themselves. They want to be 50 Cent or someone else. They so what everyone else does even if it    doesn´t fit where and who they are. But you get nowhere that way; your energy is weak and no one pays attention to you. You´re running away from the one thing that you own- what makes you different. I lost that fear. And once I felt the Power that I had by showing the world I didn´t care about being like other people, I could never go back.
