What’s your favorite kind of mushroom? call me basic, but I love a white button mushroom...versatile and classic
Fave types of plots: messy people, people who want different things and have to go through each other to achieve them, family plots (found family or otherwise), myyyysteryyyy...
What you’re most excited for: the characters people come up with!! and how they can be tormented >:3
a member of the midnight society, which works in secret to preserve and document magical history and heritage. a secret librarian, basically.
also a real librarian, at gold canyon college, among no shortage of colleagues who would love to use that information for darker purposes if they knew about it a la the lab rats subplot. balancing the two lives is...interesting.
he’s gained SEVERAL gray hairs since magic became common knowledge, to say the least.
used to work in a lot of museums and archives, given a hefty leg up due to his psychometry--the ability to glean information from an object by touching it. made him a bit of a rising star in certain circles for a while, but those days are over.
the older he gets, the more he struggles to cope with his ability. he wears gloves to keep from randomly connecting with objects, but even then he has to deal with a constant feedback loop from his gloves--where they came from, what they’ve touched, etc. so long as his hands are touching anything, he’s going to psychically connect with it.
which has led to his other secret life, the substance abuse! yikes. he’s coping, really.
except not really. not all of his connections from his work with the midnight society are in line with the law and...well, it was easy to slip into some pretty messy shit. made messier when he’s driving and swerves to avoid hitting a goat and hits some shithead kid instead (who skateboards at night?)
and now he’s being haunted. great.
needs // more members of the midnight society!, coworkers at the college, seedy connections, people he’s interviewed for the midnight society to varying degrees of success, A Therapist (jk as if)

Favorite supernatural book/show/film: faced with more free time than ever before I binge-listened to 162 episodes of the magnus archives and now it plays on a loop in my brain
Favorite tropes: accidental dads, messy people being messy, having to choose between betraying people you love and betraying your ideals
What you’re most looking forward to: spooky supernatural flavor!!
You In One Image:
it’s hard to rule the streets when there aren’t strictly streets to be ruled on a space ship, but auggie manages better than you would think. people are only rats in a cage and they need a release, whether it’s using their fists or their money. that’s where the fight club came from, a dark underbelly of the ship that’s only fixing to expand. it’s a brave new world. if you want to wear the crown, you’ve got to forge it yourself.
this group of ppl are hanging out by the pool and one dude in sunglasses knocked over a cup of vodka sprite he left sitting on the side . and he muttered “five second rule” and began to lean down, to which his friend had to like, football style body-check him
favorite character tropes: gruff accidental dads, asshole with a heart of asshole, people who make bad decisions because they’re scared. love the messiness.
what would you like to see from us: big interactive plots! I love when everything comes together and you can see the ramifications ripple through the plot [chef’s kiss]
storylines you’re excited to write: all the drama!! I love sci-fi and I was big excited to read the plot ✨
these are gonna be some MESSY thought so hold onto your hats. might be subject to change on the site itself once I get a full idea of him/where he fits into things but here are just some thoughts I’m kicking around if they spark any ideas!! lmk!
jay comes from lur and is the son of an almost proto-dynasty within the ranks of the library there (or mb one of the noble families? we’ll see). both of his parents are librarians so naturally he went on to become one too. ofc there are rumors of nepotism but he worked hard to get where he is, and he can prove it. so stay in your lane.
not interested in adventuring or literally any of that indiana jones stuff! he just wants to do his research and chill with some books! literally a huge ravenclaw nerd.
PROBLEM: turns out that there’s celestial influence way back in his ancestry that’s been dormant for just long enough to be forgotten about. surprise! he’s not fully human, he’s aasimar. he’s pretty human-passing, so no one really suspected anything until puberty hit and he started growing feathers in his hair. unfortunate.
this incidentally made him powerful, rare, and vulnerable, which put him in a unique situation to be taken advantage of. he was taken under the wing of a librarian with a strong interest in medical experiments. lets say jay was half patient/half assistant, tho the librarian had him convinced he was an equal partner in the endeavor.
eventually this culminated in jay willingly infecting himself with plague in order to further the effects of his natural divine healing magic toward finding a cure. it sort of worked. the experiment carried on until jay realized that the librarian wasn’t finding sick people for him to try to heal, they were picking up orphans and purposefully infecting them so they could control aspects of the experiment
jay realized the depths of what he was a part of, flipped out, and ran.
PROBLEM: the plague tainted his divine magic and now it’s wonky. he can still use it, but it’s volatile, and he’s just as likely to infect someone as he is to heal them, depending on a lot of factors. wears a mask in crowded spaces because he’s afraid he might be infecting people and not even realizing it, and also because this is fantasy and the aesthetic is KEY.
is now hiding out from his teacher, who considers him their property, and the library, which has been convinced that he’s stolen something of value (himself, but they don’t know that bit). it’s not good.
