NETFILX "FINDING OHANA" DAY PROCLAMATION from Brad Starks on Vimeo.
The honorable Mayor of Maui, Mike Victorino, has put forth a proclamation that henceforth, January 29th shall be "FINDING OHANA" day! The new Netflix film “FINDING OHANA” follows a modern Hawaiian family re-discovering the true meaning of Ohana and finding strength in the ancient ways that have been long since forgotten. This should be a day of reflection, family/friend interaction, and of reaching out to faraway friends and family to make them aware that they are appreciated and loved. FINDING OHANA premieres this Friday, January 29th on Netflix.

Clifford Nae’ole on Ahupuaʻa from Brad Starks on Vimeo.
Clifford Nae’ole shows that early Hawaiians adhered to an efficient and sustainable land management system called Ahupua'a—wedge-shaped land sections that usually ran from the mountains to the sea. Each was carefully designed to provide within its borders the natural resources a community required to meet its own needs.

Kui Gapero On The Benefit of Hawaiian Ahupua'a from Brad Starks on Vimeo.
Kui Gapero talks about how ancient Ahupua'a can benefit us in today's world. Ahupuaʻa is derived from the Hawaiian language ahu, meaning “heap” or “cairn,” and puaʻa, pig. The boundary markers for ahupuaʻa were traditionally heaps of stones used to put offers, often a pig, to the island chief. Each ahupuaʻa was divided into smaller sections called ʻili, and the ʻili were divided into kuleana.
