"stump hodgepodge" is one of the funniest taz balance segments. "What's the biggest prime number?" "It's up there" invented comedy

For those of you who no longer TAZ, the current ep has a Frankenstein Countess and a Pinocchio with the mind of a monk (who also has the mind of van helsing) playing Vollehball against the Creature from the Black Lagoon and a ranger/ex restauranteur who wants to make a necklace with Draculas teeth. And the ball is the fishmans wife, who is a wereball.

I love that canonically there’s a world in which Merle shows up in a town, establishes a religion, and then disappears in an incredible display of ribbons of light as the apocalypse descends and then the town lives though the apocalypse. It’s one of the most compelling depictions of religion I’ve ever seen. Because even though Merle and the crew’s work did end up saving that world, they didn’t know what would happen when they first arrived and Merle began building the church. The options were either Merle establishes a religion and instills hope in a people that has had no hope in the past and that Merle knows is going to be destroyed, giving them some semblance of peace at the end OR Merle creates hope in a place of hard living, saves them from literal Armageddon, and then becomes a fucking Holy Legend and he doesn’t see any of his fame because he knows he has to leave. It’s such a beautiful choice by Clint and I tear up every time I hear the depiction of that final scene in the church, even with my own feelings about religion.

Boy I do love watching the eclipse, I sure hope no cacophonous sound knocks my friends unconscious and no eyes of a terrible extradimensional force show up in the Ethereal Plane to start a ticking countdown to the world's doom!

how is it that all of lucretia’s one liners in moonlighting always the funniest fucking shit
“oh you’re so deep in the test, you are knee-deep in test town”
“i particularly liked when you ripped the arms off that poor helpless robot”
“here’s the problem: they just run right off the goddamn thing”
“goddammit we love domes around here”
“yes, it’s that we very quickly cut your hand off and get the bracer off, but then we attach the hand back and it’s like, not a big deal”
“are there any non terrible questions”

The tonal contrast between the boys vs. sloane and hurley in petals to the metal really gets me, especially because I like to imagine what it would be like if the focus was shifted. You have this tense lesbian drama with questions of power, control, and morality, one woman desperately trying to save her partner from unimaginable cosmic forces that have twisted her to the point where the former is not sure if she ever really knew the latter. and in the background you have three guys trying to hide a body

griffin mcelroy is so funny because youll see clips of him talking and its always either something like "my names sprite pepsi and im abstinence until i DIE" or its something like "that was the last conversation you ever had with your sister. when someone leaves your life those exits are not made equal. some are beautiful and poetic and satisfying, others are abrupt and unfair, but most are just unremarkable."

"We'll fix it in post" is a phrase from the film industry, but it is inherently funnier when it's spoken by a writer because--tragic--you are also the post-production team.

”oh so how did you get into writing?-“ no, writing got into me. Actually it infiltrated my brain, starting with the slow takeover of my room with books to the extremely fast claiming of my notes app and now there’s no way to stop it and no way for me to stop.
