Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s TIME.
only 31 works on Ao3 and 2 playlists on 8tracks for Hydra Husbands??
think of how AWESOME brock rumlow and jack rollins are and then think of how much LARGER and EPIC these numbers could be. think of that wonderful world.
you should be part of that world, of that change.
you know you want to.
show hydra husbands some love and write a fic, a drabble, draw something, make a playlist, write up some meta or HC’s — let’s add to the numbers for these douchebags. they need your love.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(also, reblog if you want to spread the word :D)

I just realised the HTP community are the Satanists of MCU fandom.
We’re a welcoming, positive, mature, and ethically responsible bunch of people who care deeply about personal responsibility and social consciousness…
and those who THINK they know what we’re about based on cherry-picked surface knowledge and brash assumptions but aren’t willing to actually learn the truth hate us rather loudly.

I’ve been away from fandom for close to ten years. I left during one of the last migrations from Livejournal, partly because so many people whom I’d been following were scattering, and partly for personal emotional health reasons.  I remember a friend giving me an invite code for Dreamwidth, and then feeling intimidated and isolated when I tried it out.  Ao3 was still new, and I liked what I saw, but new fandom felt like it was happening on a wide, bright plain instead of in warm, safe hobbit holes.  For what it’s worth, part of that perception almost certainly had to do with the aforementioned emotional health issues.  Whatever the reasons, the practical upshot was that, in new fandom, I felt like an inarticulate, under-educated nobody trying to cash in on a poorly aging LoTR kink series and some Stargate: Atlantis darkfic among people who were too sophisticated for that kind of writing.
Now, Tumblr doesn’t feel that much different to me than my original experience in fandom before things started changing, though I’m constantly hearing about how toxic and negative the environment is.  I can understand that view, to some extent, because it’s certainly easier to leave anonymous hate on Tumblr, but as far as it goes, there have always been plenty of people willing to tell kink and darkfic writers that they suck.  Those people were always willing to leave comments, messages, and e-mails; they were always gossiping off to the side, and writing their puritanical screeds against the evil folks who write about bad people doing bad things.
Here’s what’s different:  There’s a significant amount of kink and dark fic that doesn’t suck these days, and the kink and dark fic isn’t stashed away in some obscure archive dedicated to hurt/comfort, non con, or specific fetishes.  I remember telling my husband that you have to lower the bar if you want to read certain things because the good authors don’t touch that stuff.  Well, now the good authors do touch that stuff; hell, they roll naked in it. And then they post it in one place with tags that make their material easy to find. The badly written BDSM and rape masturbation fantasies are still in the same old places, but now there are so many real dark fic stories in the library’s main aisle!
So, it’s at this juncture that I’d like to thank the Hydra Trash Party, which I unfortunately discovered way too late, but that’s wonderfully changed the dark fic landscape that I remember. I was complaining very recently that there aren’t any people in Marvel fandom who are loudly and aggressively answering the question, “Why do you write/read dark fic?” with, “Because I like it!” but the very existence of the Hydra Trash Party is a resounding answer of, “Because I like it!” I’m aware that some people still prefer to wear a mask to this party, but even so, it’s become a fixture because there are enough people who don’t care that others might see them and know that they like it.  It’s the lack of shame that’s new, not the people leaving nasty notes, and for that I’m grateful to the Hydra Trash Party.
It’s a good time to have returned to fandom.

Did you notice how Winter Soldier is unshaven, clothed and generally looks like a soldier while in Soviet Union but when American team gets him they shave his stubble clean, leave his hair shoulder-length and put a fucking mascara on his eyes. They’ve turned him into a sex doll and no one can convince me otherwise.
