We have NO INDICATION of Matthew Fairchild’s sexuality.

Matthew Fairchild literally has no confirmed sexuality. Like. Literally none. And people are already saying they’ll not read TLH if he isn’t gay??? What the fuck? I love queer rep but…

1. What if James or Thomas or Jesse turns out to be straight, will you be mad then? Is the only reason you are targeting Matthew because he fits certain stereotypes?? This is problematic in so many ways. You’re literally assuming that a guy is sexually attracted to men based off the TOTALLY UNRELATED facts that he likes Oscar Wilde, poetry, and doing his hair. (If Matthew is straight, this is actually a super cool view of masculinity we don’t see much in literature.)

2. Matthew Fairchild is a super awesome character. He is a caretaker to his father, a kind parabatai, and he is super extra. 100% funny and full of great hijinks, but 100% full of heart and soul too. He is a good, well fleshed out character, even not having a simgle book published with him as a major character yet, and his sexuality should in NO WAY IMPACT the way you feel about him as a character or a person*

3. Cassie hasnt even hinted that he is queer. Sure, the green carnations may hint at something, but really? Theyre a symbol of the aesthetic movement and should just be taken as such. YOU HAVE CREATED THE HYPE FOR MATTHEW’S QUEERNESS. CASSIE HAS NOT.

I agree that he is coded queer and that he might be! But he also might be straight. And we can’t complain/say Cassie is queerbaiting because she really isn’t. And we know we are blessed to have queer representation.

* If you like him more if he’s gay, then you need to reevaluate whether you’re fetishing mlm or not (hint: you probably are.) If you like him more if he’s straight, congrats! You’re a raging homophobe.

Tl;dr Matthew is one of the best characters in TSC regardless of h is sexuality. It does not matter and is not confirmed.
