Serious question: is it a requirement to be toxic for to like CoAi? Because it strikes me that all their fandom (including you), follow that profile. It's as if they weren't able to like a ship without throwing shit at the competition. I guess they are psychological traits of that fandom.

Okay, let me break this down for you. I’m not going to match your tone and get sarcastic, and I’m no longer really annoyed, but I am going to continue to be blunt. 

Tiny bit of ✨tragic backstory✨: In my time on tumblr, I’ve gotten asks about how gay ships are shit, about hating Ran, hating Kazuha, hating women in general, and how I’m a terrible, toxic, or stupid person, all for having opinions that didn’t match canon. (Or what was at the time presumed canon. I’ve been here since way before the confession.)

I don’t think any of those things are true, or fair to say. I actually love the girls best, and enjoy filling in their characters with headcanons like a lot of people do with Hakuba. I really like fleshing them out beyond the handful of emotions they’re allowed to express as Love Interests (cheerful, blushing, sad, violence).

Anyway. 

Up till recently I’ve deleted these asks, ignored it, gone on with my life, but I don’t really feel like doing that anymore. So, as an experiment, I’m just going to say what I think. I’ll try not to be too mean about it, but I’m not going to hold anyone’s hand, either. I don’t want to turn into the people who’ve been driving me nuts.

Specifically, people who are die-hard, canon-only fans. That’s because they’re the ones who send things like that in, to me and to other people I know and like. Besides, obviously, talking like everyone who ships anything else is below them. 

Not one person who was into non-canon ships has ever been cruel to me when our opinions didn’t match. They actually tend to be up to discussing it, which I enjoyed a lot. 

As it says in my blog description, I don’t particularly ship anything. I just have a few gripes with shinran. I’d honestly love to talk about it with someone who does ship shinran, because I did use to enjoy that ship back at the beginning, but I literally lost friends the second I started doing anything but long for the confession. 

I want to hash it all out and examine all the bits and pieces and see what I used to like and what might be worth revisiting. But no one who ships shinran seems interested in doing anything beyond cooing at what canon’s already doing or talking about when they have children. I’m over that part of things. I was into it for a couple of years. Now I want something new, and shinran has nothing to offer. The confession didn’t even interest me when it finally came. I wished that it would, but it didn’t.

Another interesting thing I noticed in what you said: That’s not a separate fandom. It’s just a separate ship. I know it’s just a word, but it’s an interesting insight into how you think. We’re not the Lutherans and the Catholics, you know.

Anyway. I’m willing to bet you were the anon in detectivegeekshin’s ask box, because I don’t know why else you would bother with me. What I said, it’s not what you wanted to hear, is it? Admittedly, I was pretty annoyed, and I didn’t bother to hide it at all. 

In earnest, 

Challenge your ideas. You want to be reassured that you’re right, as does literally everyone ever. No shade, seriously. Canon will always reassure you, because that’s how this shit works, but that doesn’t mean that everyone else has to agree with you. And it doesn’t mean that I’m not allowed to openly disagree with you, either. So come at me.

If you have a real defense beyond trying to insult me, and a whole group of people I’m not a part of? Maybe your time would be better spent writing up a list of exactly why shinran does work. 

One last thing, for the coai shippers who have been sweet to me. I’m pretty sure most coai shippers are former shinran shippers that got tired of that ship. If you’re not into gay ships and/or if you’re into Haibara as an interesting, complex character, coai is a natural choice to get into. Between the fact that they’re tired of the show shoving shinran in their faces and those particularly canon-crazy people sending them things like this message you just sent me, I’m not surprised you’ve got a bad impression of them. But maybe if you approached some of them and talked about something besides Shinichi and his potential love interests, you’d find out they’re generally pretty cool people.

Hmmm, you mean as in these specific tropes of like: The stoic and the ray of sunshine; the sassy one and the serious; the tsundere and the babey? That kind? 

Well... I think Shinran have a lot of aspects to them. I’m gonna keep this one nice and short and fun, and not going to get into much detail about it because I’m lazy all of a sudden lmao. 

Obviously the first one to come to mind would be: The Brains and The Brawn. Shinichi being Shinichi, he is one intelligent son of a gun, he always knows what to do and how to do things, he knows what the right move would be next, he’s the strategy, while Ran being Ran, the strong and talented badass with incredible luck, she’s the one to get Shinichi out of trouble when it comes to physical fights. They make one hell of a team. Power Couple I’m telling you. 

Then you’d have some specks of: The 😒 One, and the Sun one, that makes 😒 become 😍. We know Shinichi just can’t hide it, he even in his darkest jerk moments, his face just lights up around Ran and he becomes a blushing mess with hearts in his eyes. 

Then you also got some: The Confident Idiot and the Annoyed voice of reason. Shinichi’s smart, he’s got the goods to back up his confident ass, and that makes it even more annoying when he jokingly brags about it with Ran with all the teasing and the cheeky looks and the smile. Ran knows how to handle him, they have a good back and forth, nice banter and if necessary, she also knows how to stop him.

I mean we all known we'll probably never see that... but at list Gosho give us this damn HeiZuha confession!

Honestly I’m all out and supportive of every ship in every anime fandom, even the gay ships. But the ships in the DC fandom like “Kaishin” or “shinkazu” (some ppl on Twitter were hardcore shipping Shinichi and Kazuha) just feels so wrong. It feels wrong because the bond and chemistry between shinran, Heikazu and Kaito and aoko are unbreakable and to ship them with other characters feels so wrong. I’d love to hear your opinion on this though

I mean- while I do ship the canon ships the most, I can see why people would support or like other ships better. Everyone has different tastes. I’ve seen a dislike for the childhood friends trope, for example (which I love). 

I might not be into other ships in DC, but I do certainly ship other stuff in other shows or anime. And I think it mostly has to do with how much time I spent watching Conan. I grew up with it and with the ships and characters that are shown to us, so I find it more difficult to ship them with others. It almost feels like I’m not seeing the same characters and it’s someone else entirely, because here, lots of characterization and development comes from those relationships. 

So yeah, I agree that the bonds of the canon ships here are extremely powerful and unbreakable. But, hey! People like what they like, and you have to let them. To each their own, you know? I used to ship more non-canon in DC when I was younger, but I eventually stopped. 

I do LOVE, and I mean, LOVE, to explore other PLATONIC relationships that aren’t shown as much in canon. Not every dynamic needs to be romantic for it to be important and relevant and fun. Like I mentioned before, Heiji and Ran, Shinichi and Kazuha, Shinichi and Sonoko, etc. It actually surprises me that you mention ShinKazu as a ship tho! Is it really popular? I never really heard of them being actually shipped romantically. 

Anyway! Not really much I can say about it, just yeah. People like different things, it’s just natural lmao

maybe this bothers me more than it should, but everytime i see Yusaku and Yukiko get written as neglectful parents i just kind of, cringe. Because the trust between Shinichi and his parents in canon is beautiful? and if there wasn't I don't think Agasa would have called them to inform them about Shinichi's situation. Reason why they would stage a kidnapping is because they know Shinichi well. boi has canonically shown he doesn't think of his well being before cases. Guess it good way to vent but

I think the “hatred” often comes from a place of: HEY HOW COULD YOU LEAVE YOUR CHILD ALONE AT 14 YEARS OLD LIVING IN THIS BIG ASS HOUSE AND THEN LEAVE THE COUNTRY???? which... I mean. yeah. I think that from our point of view.. it is weird and stuff. But- there’s a cultural difference here, because in Japan it’s not really that out of the ordinary to have very young people living on their own because they have to learn independence and all of that. 

But also yeah, I see your point, and I agree to a certain degree with you. Shinichi has proven himself to be worthy of trust and respect from his parents. He’s probably one of the most responsible teens in the show, and yeah, he makes mistakes from time to time but all of those come from his “job”, his detective work. We’ve seen that he can handle his own decently in his everyday life, health and studies, which would be what his parents would take into consideration when deciding if they should leave him on his own or not. 

And about the kidnapping prank... This family is fucking weird man. If I think about it logically it’s like “man, that was dark, why go so hard on the kid, he’s your child, he’s in a difficult situation already and he’s scared shitless, this is kinda cruel, why not just talk? you find out about what happened to him and you decide to do THIS?” but then I remember the characters that we are dealing with and it’s like “ah yeah, of course, just your average evil prank on your kid, it’s the Kudos, of course they do this, it’s what they do”. They- are- drama queens. ALL THREE OF THEM. Yes, Yusaku as well. He might seem serious and scary sometimes but he’s also a good one, you can’t fool me. All of them are chaotic as hell, so yeah,...

Was it weird that they did that? maybe yeah. But was it out of character or something? No way. And still after all their efforts, they couldn’t convice Shinichi to leave with them or let alone let them help him so... you can imagine what a “simple normal talk from parents to kid” was gonna do. Yeah, absolutely nothing.

What does/would Shinichi taste like? And how would Ran think/know that it's not Araide but someone else and the taste/kiss immediately reminds her of Shinichi? I know in Shinichi's case it's for emergency reasons, but I still think it's funny that between Kaito, an international phantom thief, and Shinichi, a teen detective, the one who did the underage drinking was the latter. Irony.

LMAO, yeah, the irony is there for sure, but it’s not like Shinichi hasn’t done other questionable things for his cases too 😂. Shinichi’s morals do not completely align with the law:
