Hey guys! Here is part one of the mini series - as promised. Enjoy! Xo
Part One: In the Clouds
I shuffled uncomfortably in my seat; the plane was gearing up to take off. This part always made me so anxious. And the fact that I was about to go on a week-long trip with a stranger didn’t help the nerves at all.
Except he wasn’t really a stranger. I’ve been watching him faithfully on YouTube for about a year now. Every Maynard Monday. And when I creepily tweeted him saying I needed a plus one on an all expense paid family cruise, it was more or less a joke. A joke that I never would have expected him to see, much less reply and agree to.
The plane’s engine rumbled as it picked up speed down the runway. I clung tightly to my purse in my lap with my eyes squeezed shut as my brother reassured me that I was okay. My one year old niece was making cute baby noises in his lap, clearly unaffected.
We ascended into the clouds after what felt like years. As my niece babbled next to me, I got lost in my own thoughts as my eyes vacantly stared into the surrounding white puffs. I was about to meet Jack Maynard. Screw meet. I would be up close and personal with Jack Maynard. In the same room, even. With Jack Maynard.
I had been in contact with him mostly through twitter until a couple days ago when I got his WhatsApp information to sort out the final details. With every text I sent, I had to restrain myself from sounding like a star struck idiot, but then still probably sounded dumb like I was trying too hard. Basically what we had worked out was that this trip would be somewhat of a publicity stunt for him. According to his manager, a Caribbean, week-long series with a fan would be just the thing to spice up his channel and rake in some views. Click bait, much? So basically he was using me for views, which I was honestly 110% okay with.
The deal was that he is supposed to blog every day and make two main channel videos sometime during the week. It seemed like a lot to me, and I expressed my concern with the fact that he wouldn’t be able to enjoy his vacation if he had to film and edit constantly. (By that I meant I wouldn’t be able to hang out with him. I get it, I’m selfish. We all have flaws.) So his manager and I worked out that he would just send the raw footage to be edited and uploaded by someone else. Also, I can’t imagine that the ship will have awesome uploading wifi, right? (Just another excuse I used. But you can’t tell me it isn’t valid.)
Turbulence pulled me out of my head and I grabbed my brother’s arm. I hate planes. I shot him a worried look and he just kind of nodded to assure me that it was okay. I checked my phone. We still had about an hour before we were scheduled to land in Orlando.
I couldn’t help but wonder if Jack was there yet or not. Would he be super jet lagged tonight? Is he excited to meet me? Or maybe he was dreading it… I could text him. But I don’t want to bother him. I just needed to chill. Play it cool. Too bad I was the most uncool person I knew.
And also I’m weak. So I took my phone out of my purse and connected to the plane’s wifi. To my surprise, a notification popped up that I had a message from Jack. I clicked on it with ninja like speed.
“Are you in Florida yet? Can’t wait to meet you. I’m already on the ship. I’ll be waiting for you in our room. 😘”

I know I haven’t been on. I’m sorry! I’ve been neglecting you all. But I am going to make it up to you by posting the first part of a mini series I’m writing!

Much love! Xoxo
