Okay, so really wish to know how the VDL would react to little Jack swearing for the first time. The kid was raised by a bunch of sailor mouths, so I'm not surprised if he did! 😅🤣

Yooooo fr it’d be so funny if Jack just started swearing at everything and everybody was just like wtf 0-0

Arthur

Honestly I think Arthur would be a mix of shocked and fearful. Shocked because he never even thought he’d hear Jack swear but also fearful for how Abigail will react.

Arthur doesn’t see it as that much of a problem as long as Jack knows he can’t say certain words and that they’re off limits.

But Arthur will definitely make sure he doesn’t swear around Jack and to always watch his language.

He might even start correcting other people that swear near Jack too.

John

So many questions go through his head. ‘Where did he learn those words? Do I have to say something? Will Abigail kill me if I don’t say something? Should I be proud? Did I teach him those words?’

John sits Jack down and tries to explain to him why he can’t say certain words and why they might get him in trouble. But if Jack questions any of this then John will just stare blankly at him.

In the end they come to a civil agreement. 1) Don’t say those words around your mother. 2) If you do, don’t say I taught you them. 3) If everything goes wrong, just blame Micah.

Dutch

He thinks it’s absolutely hilarious. Dutch stands outside his tent, cigar in hand and tries to coax Jack into saying more.

Every time he does, Dutch let’s out a loud laugh. Eventually John comes over and tells Dutch to stop encouraging it.

Dutch just shrugs and says he isn’t his kid (hopefully) so it isn’t his problem.

Micah

Micah doesn’t even notice. He could be standing next to Jack when he says it but he doesn’t acknowledge it.

Micah thinks it’s normal and he doesn’t understand what the big deal is. The only time Micah will properly notice it is if Jack shouts a string of curse words.

but even at that, Micah will just chuckle and tell Jack some more “funny words” he should go call Arthur.

Javier

Javier is disappointed but says nothing. In a way, he feels like he can’t say anything. Jack isn’t his kid so he feels like he should just mind his own business.

but after a while, Javier starts to subtly help Jack out by teaching him some curse words in Spanish.

now Jack will just shout something in Spanish and when people ask Javier to translate, he’ll say Jack said “Table” or “Horse” or some other random word.

Bill

The first time Bill heard Jack curse was while he was drinking some beer… Bill was drinking the beer, not Jack.

Anyways, just as Bill was taking a big gulp from his bottle, Jack started cursing. Bill couldn’t believe what he was hearing. It was so sudden, so bizarre to hear this tiny 4 year old say such words.

Bill went to spit out his drink but he did it with such force and so fast that some went up his nose. He didn’t stop coughing for about 10 minutes, still in shock that Jack cursed.

Sean

Sean decides to be a responsible adult and tell Jack he isn’t supposed to curse but he says it in possibly the worst way possible.

“Ah for fuck’s sake Jack, you know you’re not supposed to be swearing, you little shit”. It starts an endless cycle where John is giving out to Sean for cursing and Jack is just standing there repeating every curse word they say.

“Don’t you fuckin’ tell me to stop cursing, it’s that little bastard that’s doing all the cursing” Sean points at Jack. “Hey don’t call my son a bastard, you asshole” John argues. “Why are you shouting at me?” Sean shouts back “Besides it’s not like I’ve said anything that bad, I haven’t said prick or shithead or cu-“.

Before Sean could finish his sentence, John punched him. It started absolute chaos and in the middle of it all was Jack shouting every new word he had learned.

Abigail

Honestly she’s so shocked she doesn’t know whether to laugh or get mad.

She does eventually laugh but Abigail knows she needs to correct him.
