I have a korean test language this week ,but i still dont know what is the ddiffrence between 습니다/ㅂ니다 can u pls explain to me 😭😭 Thank u
Hi! There’s really no difference in meaning between -습니다 and -ㅂ니다 (they’re both very formal conjugations), but you choose which to use depending on the tense of the verb or adjective you’re conjugating.
You would use -ㅂ니다 for adjectives and verbs conjugated in the present or future tense, such as the following:
저는 미셸입니다 = I am Michele
이다 = to be
이 + ㅂ니다 = 입니다
저는 학교에 갈 겁니다 = I will go to school
가다 = to go
갈 것이다 = will go (future tense of “to go)
갈 것이 + ㅂ니다 = 갈 겁니다
But you would attach -습니다 to adjectives and verbs conjugated in the past tense like these:
집에 왔습니다 = I came home
오다 = to come
왔다 = came (past tense of “to come”)
왔 + 습니다 = 왔습니다
숙제를 했습니다 = I did homework
하다 = to do
했다 = did (past tense of “to do”)
했 + 습니다 = 했습니다
Hope this answered your question! Good luck on your exam! 화이팅!
