Can You Spot Who Makes This Pic So Awesome That We Can All Learn From It?
There’s one person in this crowd of moviegoers who’s determined to live life in the moment. Can you find them?
If you guessed that it’s the older woman in the black sweater at the front of the crowd, you’d be right. This photo, taken at the premier of Black Mass in Brookline, Massachusetts by John Blanding, shows a crowd of fans greeting movie stars with their smartphones held high. The woman’s contrasting approach to the moment has earned her heaps of praise after the photo went viral.
Though most of us are guilty of over-reliance on social media to some degree, it’s still a popular subject for artists. This post features work by Babycakes Romero and other artists afraid of what our dependence on technology and social media might mean for us.
Could everyone enjoy the moment like this grandma?

Charity Maranan died Monday August 2, 2021 in Florida where she had retired. Charity was a long time employee of Cabrini for almost 30 years. She held various positions at Cabrini. From Team Leader she became ANCC of the 10th floor and eventually became NCC of the 10th floor for many years. She then transferred to be a case manager of  Cabrini. When Cabrini closed  I made her NCC of Hospice. She excelled in all positions she held. She was a good friend not only to her colleagues but to other health team staff as well. She was very trustworthy and  kind.   I will surely missed her as a good friend for many years.

Cuomo to unveil NYC’s Mother Cabrini statue on Columbus Day
By Carl Campanile - October 10, 2020
The Mother Cabrini statue awaits her unveiling under a blue tarp in Battery Park City.
Mother Frances Cabrini will get the respect — and the statue — she deserves, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Saturday night.
In a video address to the Columbus Citizens Foundation, Cuomo said that on Columbus Day, he will unveil a new statue honoring Cabrini.
The Post snapped pictures early Saturday of the Cabrini statue on a pedestal — covered in blue tarp in Battery Park City’s South Cove — waiting to be uncovered.
Cuomo stepped in to build the Cabrini statue with state funds when controversy erupted after City Hall failed to include the beloved patron saint of immigrants on the list of famous women to be honored with statues as part of first lady Chirlane McCray’s “She Built NYC” program.
The snub came even though Cabrini received the most nominations for a monument from the public.
Outrage in the city’s heavily Catholic communities reached a fever pitch when Italian-American actor Chazz Palminteri called McCray’s decision “racist.”
Palminteri later apologized during a heated exchange with Mayor Bill de Blasio on the radio last year, but the actor persisted in arguing that excluding Cabrini just didn’t make sense.
The Cabrini statue will stand behind the Museum of Jewish Heritage, facing the sweeping views of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
Cuomo told the Columbus Citizens Foundation that the unveiling of the Cabrini statue will highlight New York’s Columbus Day celebrations, which were forced to go virtual because of safety protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Mother Frances Cabrini
The governor will be honorary grand marshal of the virtual event.
“And while there is much sadness this year and I am disappointed to not be at the gala and not to march in the parade, there is a silver lining,” Cuomo said.
“This year we unveil a magnificent monument to our Italian American legacy and that monument will stand for all time,” he said.
“Last Columbus Day, if you remember, one year ago, we said that we could work together and create a statue of the blessed Mother Cabrini. And now in honor of Columbus Day, we will do just that.”
Cuomo said Mother Cabrini is the “personification” of Italian American achievement, having founded 67 schools, hospitals and orphanages.
“She served the poor and the immigrants. She had boundless energy and unlimited capacity and she was a model for female empowerment before the expression was ever used – doing all of this in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
Cuomo also stood up for statues honoring famous Italian explorer Christopher Columbus, whose legacy has come under fire for his treatment of indigenous people.
“Now, Italian Americans have two great statues in New York City — the Christopher Columbus statue and the Mother Cabrini statue, and they will serve to educate a new generation of New Yorkers and all the international tourists who come here on the proud and true legacy of Italian Americans, who we are, and what we have done to make this country that we love so much even better,” he said.

Remembering the origins of Cabrini Hospice
Peter Ungvarski‎
Sister Loretta was the first Pastoral Care Associate for Cabrini Hospice.  In fact she arrived shortly before we opened and pitched in to help out.  She was born in California along with her twin sister Regina on April 13, 1933. Both Loretta and Regina entered the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart on February 2, 1964, and she professed final vows on September 2, 1962, and entered into eternal life on February 25, 1997.
Her commitment to caring for all our Hospice patients and families whether they were Catholic, Jewish, Muslim or Baháʼí Faith or any other belief was extraordinary and she was always there to pray with them. Even the non-believers loved her. Sister identified the favorite music of all her patients and would play the music especially when the patient could no longer communicate.  You could always find her sitting next to the patient closest to death for she believed no one should die alone.  She always had a smile and cheerful greeting for everyone.  She is dearly missed. Sister “Reggie’ (Regina) resides in California.
