“The dark blue brings out the gold…” She spares a moment to promptly look the article of clothing over, even taking the time to feel the material before providing her honest opinion. “It suits you! I’d recommend darker colours just to be safe. Though I have to ask… have you ever tried on something… a bit lighter?”
Tumblr media
“ lighter? “ for a moment he thinks upon it; aside from the white of his undershirts, the rest of his attire is either a dark, rich blue or a striking gold. red accents are here and there, but nothing light, per se. “ i haven’t! it was always the dark of my sheath and the deep violet which my masters adored. i’m unsure whether brighter shades would suit me just as well as these. “

“I suppose it could be viewed as fate—seeing as how it’s happened once before.” A hand instinctively reaches out, brushing over her lips as a short laugh resounds out. Contrary to his tone, the words he chooses to describe his disappearance is slightly ominous, yet seeing as how he emphasizes its little importance, she opts to dwell on it no further. “Considering my circumstance, I’ve been well, thank you. What about you?”
Tumblr media
“ indeed. “ he laughs as well, a chuckle yet to break his cool persona. rather, he supposes nothing could truly shatter the pretty picture of two friends re-meeting in this fashion. “ i’m also well, thank you. i was out looking for a new dress shirt, but i’m not sure anything here really suits my style. what do you think? “ he returns to retrieve the shirt he had previously held, a crisp dark blue cotton, with gold buttons fixed along the front.

“Likewise! It’s good to see you after all this time!” Hands comes together, fingers intertwining across her hips. Her features immediately begin to soften upon hearing his familiar voice, a smile now curving her lips. “I had surmised that you left the city… though I had no way of confirming it for myself…”
Tumblr media
warmth is but a shy description for the joy he feels, the elation upon finding someone you know, someone you do like so much, after such a time of uncertainty. “ mhm! for a time i was unsure where exactly i was, but it’s of little importance now. how have you been? how funny that we should run into such a random place as well... i might even call this fate. “

It’s sudden, how her expression changes upon seeing his figure; she had assumed he’d left the city, and she figured she’d never see him again. Eyes widen momentarily, mirroring her state of disbelief. “Mitsutada?”
Tumblr media
“ allura! “ he returns the shirt he had grasped within his hand to the rack before approaching, eye wide with surprise and lips curled in a large smile. “ it’s good to see you! you look so well, i had thought perhaps maybe we wouldn’t meet again here, i’m glad to be proven wrong! “ he placed a hand upon his hip, almost embarrassed by how his excitement had, for just a moment, made him look only a little uncool.

It’s almost odd, when he thinks about it, that he hasn’t really spent too much time around the greenery so far in his stay here. It wouldn’t have been all too surprising if his residence hadn’t been underneath the sector with the most greenery by far, and yet after nearly five months of living here, most of his time spent as such had been during the festival he’d arrived in.
Perhaps he’d just found himself too preoccupied with so many things that it hadn’t crossed his mind. Back home, it was common for him to spend decent amounts of time in nearby gardens, but here was… different. This place had so many things going on, he had so much freedom, maybe it’d all just gone to his head and he forgot about the simpler pleasures of life?
Let’s go with that.
But whatever the reason was, Gakupo wasn’t too preoccupied with it, rather focusing more on the garden he’d wandered into a moment ago. This one didn’t seem quite the same as the others he’d taken a gander at earlier; the previous ones had all felt more like they were city fixtures almost, taken care of by some business in order to keep things looking in top shape. While none of the gardens were bad, this one had more of a homely feel, and he had to wonder if this was someone’s private property. Of course, he could be wrong, but after a moment more of looking around, he decided it was better to move on than to stick around and potentially get in trouble, or– ah. He turns his head and sees someone looking back at him (had they been there the whole time, or was he just being paranoid?), and a brief second’s awkward pause, the android offers a sheepish laugh and a polite wave.
Tumblr media
“E-Er… Is this… your garden? It’s quite lovely…”
@candlecut
they were simple things, plants. they didn’t take much to bloom, to blossom into something beautiful and necessary. a sprinkle of water, a dash of rain and some attention was all it took really. often, human beings are much the same. mitsutada had often wondered, as he clipped the tomatoes from their stems and placed them into the box, whether the same was said for the swords of the citadel. whilst not entirely human, but not altogether a pure blade ( of course, for what blade could stoop down into the soil wearing an apron and wellington boots? ). was a little water, a little love and a little patience all they needed? it felt comical really, to compare apples and pears this way, but they were all fruit in the end. perhaps it was true, perhaps it was not.
either way, he enjoyed making the most out of the gardens; feeling soil between his fingers and collecting home-grown spices to be used in his cooking later when he began work. it always tasted better that way, as much as he enjoyed going to the supermarket. now that was an adventure all on it’s own. people often wandered into the garden, not always just to say hello either. they stole, they asked for advice, they took pictures of the blooming sunflowers against the shed and they always saw mitsutada there, merely because he usually was lingering somewhere.
Tumblr media
he rose to his feet and, like always, he was not entirely alone. lilac catching the light of the sun caught his eye and for a moment, he thought he recognised a friend, whose own hair was treated as delicately and finely as an old blade. alas, a stranger’s face turned to meet his gaze. “ thank you. “ he smiled, lifting the box of assorted vegetables to sit at his hip. “ it’s much cheaper to have my own garden than visiting the markets sometimes. here-- “ he tossed an apple towards the stranger, hoping they’d catch it. “ do you live in the nearby block? “

The concrete was cold and rough under Damian’s hand as he leaned back, body supported by an outstretched arm as he maintained his perch over a hundred feet above the ground. He had chosen the spot for its view and vantage point, a perfect position to watch the patch of grassy field below him, an area of startling green compared to the rest of the city. He had sat to watch the goings-on below nearly half an hour before, legs swinging almost lazily as they hung over the side of the building’s roof, eyes fixed downward. ❝ Mask optics up 200. ❞ A faint noise of frustration left his mouth as the command went unanswered by the lenses fixed to his mask. Just another irritation this city had brought the Boy Wonder. It was not the first, and Damian was certain it would not be the last. Another moment was taken to let the anger simmer before he let it go, once more focusing on the field below him. Eyes narrowed for a moment before, without preamble, the boy let himself slide from the roof of the building and fall.
It was not uncontrolled, of course. His momentum was stopped by a flagpole, an electrical wire, a wooden post. When he landed on the ground moments later, it was soft enough that Damian barely had to bend his knees to absorb the shock. He walked away unscathed, straight towards the field… and, more specifically, the man with the sword who occupied it.
Tumblr media
❝ You’ve been practicing here by yourself for the past 43 minutes. Now you’ll fight me. ❞ There was no hesitation as the masked boy stepped forward, producing the wooden sword he’d been given on arrival and raising it above his head, mouth opening to shout a loud ❝ HA! ❞ as Damian launched himself at the other.
there was so much time to waste, to spend doing whatever he liked whenever it suited his fancy. he’d taken to becoming a bit of a wanderer really, visiting the markets early at fresh light to fetch the still-warm loaves, walking and then jogging across district borders, sweat beading against his temple until he wiped them away with the back of his glove. but one thing he made sure to wedge into his schedule of self-motivated interests, was practice. every day, without fail. not one day would pass where he was not still so lean, so quick, so powerful. the wooden blade almost as lethal as the real deal when wielded within his grip.
“ a challenger? “ he drew back his sword from his stance-practice, bowing smartly before returning his arm outward, the sword a mere extension of his arm. “ nothing would please me more. “ but there was little time to chat, he was launched at in an instant, wood smacking against wood as he easily defended himself from the incoming blow, he dragged the sword aside, the pair swinging before he flicked the edge towards the youth, a more flashy display than t’was an aggressive one.
Tumblr media
“ not too bad! “ he remarked, his single exposed eye glinting as he smiled. “ but i’m holding back. “ he twisted, body a flash of royal blue and golden accents, a blur for just a second. he moved so quick, this trademark of his, that one who knew the visage may have attributed it to the shadow of his former lord; a dragon faster than mere clashes of steel. or rather, wood, in this instance. he met with the youth’s sword once more, their frames close together with the sword’s subtle force.

“Not a lot of people get up early enough to appreciate it, sadly. Your home must be amazing if just seeing the sunset can bring back memories…kinda wish it was the same for me.”
Tumblr media
“ rising early each day was merely part of my routine, but the way the sun rose against the garden truly was a cool sight, i’ll admit. is there anything here that reminds you of your home? treasure it, if so. “

“I swear, there’s nothin’ like seeing the sun rise over the city…makes me feel like even if it’s only for a moment, that everything’s all right.” And it’s good for pictures too!
Tumblr media
“ it’s rare to see people up and out this early in the day, let alone enjoying the sunrise. i understand, however. it reminds me a lot of my former home, despite this place being so different from it. “

although it was a far cry from the open fields beyond the citadel, mitsutada rather enjoyed the plots of land allocated to the various apartment buildings in the city. it was rather saddening, however, that so many of the city’s residents didn’t seem to care all too much for how their allotments grew, whether their vegetable patches thrived or suffered beneath the weight of a surprise arson attack. it became a sort of hobby for him, to visit the planters and feed them a drop of water, spray a little fertilisers and rake across the seeds in the neighbourhood patches, time after time getting to know each plot of land and thus nurturing the land back to health.
on a day when the sun was particularly warm, with his gloves and trowel in hand the tachi set to work upon the soft soil just beyond the cafe, the lush green of sector six rolling off into the hills beyond the quaint establishment. he began with tomatoes, as those were perhaps the first to ripen from the plot itself. he pulled one vine free of its brothers and pulled apart the cherry red vegetables from their stems, gathering them in the small basket at his side. whilst it was easy work, nothing unlike what he was used to before, he missed the company of the citadel for those hours, the conversations they would share.
ah, but little did he know, he was not alone. a rustle in the cabbage patch caught his attention and mitsutada’s single eyes focused upon it in a flash, hands stilling as he waited for movement. RUSTLE RUSTLE. something was there, but as mitsutada rose to his feet to see, the sound of footsteps caught him off-guard. he turned to see a stranger, a young woman short of breath, ambling up the hill towards him.
Tumblr media
“ are you alright? “ he placed the basket upon the soft earth and a hand settled upon his hip. “ is something the matter? “

“Pictures?” He echoes, sparing the device another once-over in his curiosity. “You wouldn’t mean to tell me this without showing me how it’s done…?”
Tumblr media
Before he can even be denied, Yan Qing turns his phone on and hands it over. “Let’s see it.”
Tumblr media
he takes the phone and presses the button to bring the device back to life. “ it took me a while to work it myself, but it’s simple once you do it often enough! “ he tapped the camera icon and the screen went dark for a moment, before relighting and this time showing a very zoomed in section of mitstutada’s chin. “ unflattering... alright, face me and i’ll take your picture like this! “

it’s been quiet for a while, really, the sign almost consistently flipped to the ‘ CLOSED ‘ marker decorated by the twirling, swirling scatter of sakura petals dancing against the calligraphy. though customers haven’t altogether stopped coming, the attendance is low, low enough for mitsutada to spend the majority of his day doing whatever he liked -- so long as he’s available to make a quick pot of coffee as he does it. cooking day after day was still a hobby he found worthy of the indulgence and, whilst people may have stopped coming to the cafe for hosts and the like, he still prepared desserts that kept people returning on a decent basis.
jam-filled pastries, cookies shaped like noble blades, the insignia of great surnames, masters of their craft. they were novelty things really, but he liked it. it gave him a purpose he readily accepted, when he wasn’t wandering about the city in search of things to learn. the cafe was close to closing, the light outside a greying red as gentle spits of rain began to fall from the heavens/ the skyline burned like a vivid forest fire, alas the colder winds of a coming autumn blew about across the city. mitsutada lifted the outdoor sign into his arms and carried it indoors, the jingle of the bell announcing his reentry as he brought the placard back inside.
as he set it down, he noticed how the cafe was no longer empty, no longer a closing venue with only the presence of himself and the humming kitchen appliances through the kitchen. a man, a little damp from the weather, had taken a seat within the open space, prompting mitsutada to dry off his hands and approach his table hurriedly.
Tumblr media
“ apologies! “ he began, bowing and withdrawing his notebook from the pocket of his apron. “ i didn’t see you sitting there! welcome sir, what can i get for you today? “

sunpharaoh:
Not often does he make it a habit to visit sectors other than his own unless prompted. It’s only because of a flier that he’s here, said flier advertising a museum situated in the cultural sector, known for it’s inclusion of familiarities from worlds unknown to those who were not from them. Upon arriving, he’d been very vocal about just who he was exactly and the staff, unable to tell him that it was impolite to be so loud in what was supposed to be a relatively quiet space just mind their own business, but keep an eye on him as he traverses the building.
Only does he quiet down for a moment upon happening upon a very familiar statue, that stood tall and grand as it basked in the sunlight from an opening above. For a moment, he is in disbelief that he should even find such a thing here but that’s only for a moment, because not soon after is he beaming proudly at the statue of himself, arms thrown wide in worship as he erupts in laughter  at the sight before him. A statue of his very self in all of his greatness, it’d been correct down to the very last detail. “Yes, this truly depicts my greatness! King Ramesses II, the epitome of perfection, the embodiment of Ra himself!” He’s talking rather loudly to himself, but no one can be bothered to stop him.
It’s then that he’s joined by someone else who enters the exhibit, but he pays them no heed as he stands next to the statue now, posing in the exact same manner that it’d been carved in. Only when the other speaks does Ozymandias finally offer his acknowledgement ( and a very big smile ) before erupting in laughter once more, hands on his hips now. “So I see that you’ve noticed!” It’s a nice feeling, to be recognized. “Yes, this is indeed me in all of my perfection!”
Tumblr media
“Truly marvelous, is it not!? Though I’d have liked it to be a tad bit bigger! Surely someone who is recognized as the greatest pharaoh to have ever led Egypt deserves a statue of much bigger scale and praise from the people!”
the single eye ( gold, like the heart of a wealthy man’s most loved collection of treasure ) scanned the statue once more; he took in every inch of how the stone was shaped and moulded, finely done so to forge thin digits and even the curl of the ends of his hair, all so lifelike and surreal. why, had you looked in a flash and not taken the time to really see, you’d be forgiven for thinking a pair of twins stood so tall within the afternoon glow! mitsutada offered a bow, formal yet not quite so low to as appear anything less than majestic in his own right. a leader indeed, he’d read upon such kings; mighty and strong, worthwhile of their god’s blessings and rebels of the very laws common men had lived. he recognised a lord when he spied one.
Tumblr media
there was no doubt that this man truly was the same as that sculptured other, though the chances of such a thing occurring were second to none. but who was he to wonder such things, to quiz the impossible when, after all, he had lived the impossible and seen it with his single eye so many a time, at the side of masamune no less. “ bigger? but it already towers so high above the others here, i doubt there is a man tall enough for such a noble job. “ he smiles, pale lips amused by the scene before him. such a loud voice, such a grand presence, he would be a fool to mock any inch of it, not that he ever would. in fact, he likens it to easily to the rumble of his former lord’s cries of bravado, to the manner of which an unrivalled victor proclaims his eternal victory.
“ do the people often carve such beautiful portraits of their leaders? i wonder who else has been honoured in this city. you are more likely to know their names than myself, perhaps you’d be willing to help me, my lord? “
though he is not his true lord, he imagined it to be a great disservice to not at least address him so formally. my grace? my king? he was neither. my pharaoh seemed almost comical, given he had never stepped a foot upon the golden sands. he looked up with hopeful intrigue at least, rather amused by the prospect of talking further with such a cool looking stranger.
