Giyuu Tomioka is many things. He’s a demon slayer, a Hashira, a friend, a student, a hero, but Giyuu is not a babysitter, so he is unsure how he managed to end up in this nasty situation.
It was supposed to be an easy mission, a reward for all of his diligent work as a demon slayer. There were families going missing in the country-side of a small village and Giyuu was supposed to take care of it, simple. He had done hundreds of missions easier than that, he could take care of it.
And yet here he is, completely speechless as a crying four-year-old clings onto his leg. Kids had never been his strong suit, and neither had tears (ironic for the Water Hashira to be scared of a bit of water), so he was at a bit of a loss.
“Why are you crying,” He asked, completely serious, before cringing. Of course she was crying, her whole family died in front of her about ten minutes ago. She blinked up at him through tear-filled eyes.
“Are you an idiot,” She sobbed. If there were any other adults nearby to cling to, she would’ve switched over to them in a heart-beat. But there wasn’t, so she was left here with the emotionally-challenged slayer.
He hesitated, not knowing how to continue. “No, I am very smart,” He replied seriously, hoping that will comfort her, but to his displeasure, she just starts crying more.
Giyuu reaches under her arms and holds her as far away from himself as he can.
‘Babies like to be carried’ He thought, completely determined. It was a weird thing to see, a completely stoic man covered in blood holding a sobbing four-year old out as far as his arms would reach. If anyone had stumbled across it, they likely would’ve called the authorities.
“Stop crying,” He commands.
She looks around as if to say ‘what the fuck is this guy on?’ before trying her hardest to kick him. Her legs are a great deal shorter than his arms, so it doesn’t work, much to her frustration.
“Ugh! I hate you, ugly man!” She screams before reaching over and biting his hand. Giyuu reflexively drops the baby and she takes this chance to run into the country-side, trying to get far away.
At this point, Giyuu is a bit fed up with the child, so he picks her up before she can get more than a few feet away.
“It's not safe out there. What if there are more of them? More demons? What would you do, hm?” Giyuu’s eyes are hard as he lectures the girl. Just as he’s about to continue, he looks down at her and notices her tear-filled eyes, which make his own soften.
“I am sorry that I failed to protect your family, but I swear I will do my best to protect you for as long as you're with me.”
“...promise?” She holds up her pinky.
“Yes.” Giyuu then shakes her pinky. Giyuu does not understand pinky-promises. She giggles.
“Okay, then I will never leave you.”
“Okay.” Giyuu then registers what she’s said and panics a little bit.
Giyuu has now accidentally become a father.
