Lycanthrope, Wereraven
Tumblr media
“Brother Raven” © Brandt Andrist, accessed at his ArtStation here
[Inspired by Ravenloft’s take on wereravens as being among the good guys. I was very tempted to make this a paladin. But the Charisma hit that lycanthropes take makes paladin a not-great choice for them. Inquisitor was a good secondary option.
And yes, I cheated a little by giving them a fly speed in their hybrid forms. Werebats do the same thing, so I feel justified.]
Lycanthrope, Wereraven CR 2 NG Humanoid (shapechanger) This feathered humanoid has the broad beak and black feathers of a raven. Their hands are hidden in a sea of thick primary feathers, and they have a short tail of feathers and clawed feet.
Canny and protective, the lycanthropes known as wereravens are almost always good. They help to defend other people from monsters, especially evil lycanthropes and the undead. In their hybrid forms, they are sometimes mistaken for tengu, and tengu wereravens do exist, further clouding the issue for some people. Wereravens never use their beaks on humanoid targets, as they do not seek to transmit a curse—they will occasionally bite supplicants who seek the powers of the wereraven, after first judging their intentions and deeming them worthy of the honor.
In their humanoid forms, wereravens may have jet black hair or skin, irises that fill the whole of the eye, or deep croaking voices.

So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)

Is part of the joke that her name is Joanne and y'all keep calling her Joan?
I just think it would be funny to switch things up and lead with "popular far-right online blogger, Joan Rowling" once in awhile.

Kumiho
Tumblr media
“Nine Tails” © deviantArt user polawat, accessed at his gallery here
[Commissioned by @thetygre, who wanted an “eldritch kitsune” based on their appearance as tentacled monsters in Call of Cthulhu and a recent episode of Lovecraft Country. The name is a Korean equivalent, a fox spirit that is always vampiric and malicious, as opposed to the more ambivalent kitsune of Japan. I stumbled upon this art while looking for other pieces, and knew I wanted to incorporate its weird masks into my version.]
Kumiho CR 8 CN Aberration This creature looks like a strange, oversized fox, with paws like human hands and feet. It has nine tails, each of which is capped with a mask-like face.
A kumiho is a magical creature that combines fox and humanoid aspects. A kumiho is dangerous but rarely completely evil, as they are sustainable hunters. They are succubus-like in their feeding on the mental energy of hosts, but typically leave their victims alive but insensate. A kumiho may make repeated visits to a favored host over the course of months or years, and some of them even develop a genuine affection for their feeding partners. Many kumihos spend most of their life in a humanoid guise, only assuming their true, bizarre forms when defending themselves. Each of a kumiho’s tails ends in a mask-like face, and they can sculpt these masks to resemble individuals they want to disguise themselves as. Kumihos are obsessed with mortal beauty, and often collect faces that are considered beautiful among different cultures or species.
A kumiho resembles a kitsune in many ways, from its fox-like aspect to its multiple tails. Some sages believe that the two species are related through common ancestry, but the truth is stranger. The first kumihos were created by the anxiety and paranoia of humans, fearful of shapeshifting foxes in their midst. Truly frightening fox-like entities were then created out of that occult energy. Kumihos are more likely to view true kitsune with pity than any other emotion, but that does not stop them from setting up kitsune as patsies and scapegoats if their activities draw too much scrutiny.

What I love is that, just based on the first two towns we've seen, this map is almost certainly ridiculously accurate.

Protectar
Tumblr media
Image © Wizards of the Coast, by Adrian Smith. Accessed at the D&D Miniatures Handbook Art Gallery here
[Commissioned by @crazytrain48. Be not afraid! This creature combines a very stereotypical angelic appearance with a very low CR–the better to use in building warbands and making a figure of lower rarity in the D&D Miniatures game. Like a number of the monsters in the Miniatures Handbook, they have no unique abilities to speak of, just a small handful of SLAs. So I gave them some, emphasizing their protective nature.]
Protectar CR 2 NG Outsider (extraplanar) This being looks to be the very ideal of an angel, being a winged humanoid clad in armor and carrying sword and shield. Their face is stern, but not unkind.
Protectars are lesser celestial beings that spring forth from the fabric of the good aligned planes. They are more concerned for protecting mortals than in combating evil. A protectar often patrols their planes looking for lost mortals, helping petitioners settle into existence as a spirit, and doing miscellaneous good deeds. They are faultlessly moral, and never lie, cheat or steal. They also will happily lay down their life in sacrifice to aid another.
In combat, protectars close ranks and defend their allies. They are more concerned with support than dealing damage, and often act as battlefield healers. Their auras shine brightly to creatures that can detect good, and may pull the attention of fiends to target them over their allies. Some protectars lean into this, and act as decoys for more powerful celestials to thwart assassination attempts or confuse enemy spies.

So, strictly speaking, my first Ghibli film was the 1985 New World Pictures recut and dub of Nausicaä called Warriors of the Wind, but the first Ghibli film I watched as a Ghibli film was Tonari no Totoro at DragonCon 2000.
Inspired by the fact that I am rewatching my first ghibli movie spirited away

Very many thanks to Pamela T, Asher H, Emmanuel L, C.J. D, Stephanie R, Matthew M, and Sam S. for supporting the Lackadaisy animated film! —————————————- Lackadaisy is on Patreon - there’s extra stuff!
