Chewing on the end of a toothpick, Ray continued to stand and stare in the froze section of little grocery shop. He usually ate out, so when times like these when he had to buy real food, he was lost. “What the fuck is a vegan pizza?”
her head turned, carcosa glancing over the selection of vegan options with an unimpressed stare. “fake meat, fake cheese, an’ fake flour.” she replied, her nose wrinkling in disgust. “an’ all for a very pretty penny.”
the brunette reached into a separate freezer, fingers curling around a pint of rocky road. “heard somewhere that they replace th’ crust with cauliflower or somethin’ like that. real hippie shit, as my dad would say.” she scoffed to herself, adding the frozen treat to her basket.
Tumblr media
“dunno why they bother sellin’ that shit ‘ere, anyway.                                  can’t imagine anyone ‘round these parts actually buyin’ it.”

eviethorne:
eve waited in her truck for carcosa’s (hopefully) tearful call.
she was parked less than a mile from the girl’s house, sorting into an array of uncomfortable positions as she waited. nearly half a pack of cigarettes was smoked in the two hours that she waited. what the fuck had been the point in staying nearby if carcosa didn’t follow the script eve had prepared?
stupid bitch. first she got robbed, then she didn’t follow the plan that eve never told her.
in carcosa’s defense, eve W A S the one robbing her. and she did have a teeny bit of a temper problem that carcosa had been on the other end of. it wouldn’t be the last time, but people could change, grow or whatever. which is why she wasn’t ready to let carcosa go yet.
the brunette had trotted in, looking happy for once, as she told eve there was only one more payment and she would be free from the thorne’s grasp.
inconvenience flashed before eve’s eyes, the idea of training another lackey bitch was less than appealing. she’d already spent nearly a year breaking carcosa into the employee she needed, she hardly had to threaten her anymore to get her to do a half decent job. carcosa’s employment had been peaceful, compared to the typical fears she had of people trading sex for a high.
carcosa was never generous with product, not when it was stapled to her freedom.
which is why she couldn’t let her go.
her face tinged with ambiguity, a smirk present, when her phone finally rang. carcosa’s voice shook as she poured out an explanation to eve, the blonde forcing a frown into her features to sound concerned. after repeatedly telling her to shut the fuck up and stop talking, eve hung up and brought the truck to life.
satisfaction was as thick as the summer heat as she drove to carcosa’s house.
after carcosa let her in, eve got to relive the chaos she’d inflicted on the place. it was only hours prior that eve turned over nearly every room in the house, despite knowing exactly where the treasure was. she tore up furniture, ripped every shred of clothing from drawers, ate a frozen burrito.
“jesus christ,” she muttered, feigning shock. “this guy tore your shit apart.”
men were always to blame in the name of violence.
glass crunched beneath her feet as she walked across the livingroom, the shattered window one solely for the drama of it all. she liked the idea of sound effects to amplify the mood.
“well,” she said, stopping for her boots to spin across the glass. “that’s your own goddamn fault.” it was not. “you should’a had half a goddamn brain an’ been more careful.” she had been quite careful. eve had her reasoning for what she had done, stealing the last payment before carcosa could hand it over.
Tumblr media
good employees were hard to find.
“look, take this for now,” eve said, pulling the gun out from the back of her jean shorts. “maybe a bullet’ll help ya’ more than your own dumb ass could.”
her throat ached as she choked back the growing lump, a hot black rage bubbling in the pit of her stomach. it was thick and hot and heavy like an oil slick, baking on the pavement in the middle of a july afternoon. the sensation alone was enough to make her nauseous all over again.
of course eve blamed her for this. was there really any other outcome? she would have been stupid to believe so, the youngest thorne not capable of basic human emotions such as empathy or compassion. carcosa could have been killed during the robbery — died fighting for her life, and eve still would have pinned the fault on her, metaphorically pissing on her grave as a final ‘fuck you’.
carcosa’s grip tightened around the gun, the weapon’s presence a cruel and icy reminder that no matter which way the story was spun, this was remained on her. a real slap to the face would’ve stung less, tears threatening to spill over once more. the agonizing gravity of the situation was too much for her to bare; her hopes and dreams of a life outside of the thornes clutches disappearing into the night along with the dough.
she’d been able to taste her freedom only days ago, the confidence and joy that filled her when she proudly shared the news with eve being the best she’d felt in months. the bitterness she’d detected in the thorne’s voice had only been an extra perk, carcosa more than satisfied to leave eve with the knowledge that she had won. the money she’d made on this particular night would have sealed the deal, carcosa’s original plan being to head straight to eve’s and shove the cash at her proudly, middle finger held high as she left bumfuck’s she devil in the dust once and for all.
too bad she told eve ahead of time instead of simply just doing it.
maybe then the bitch wouldn’t be once again taking up space in her own house.
now she just felt hollow. hollow and ashamed and angry all at once, eve’s condescending and demeaning words only making those gut wrenching feelings worse. “of course you think this is my fuckin’ fault.” she said in mock disbelief, voice breaking as a humorless laugh tore past her lips. “why would i expect any other god damn thing from you?” she shook her head, nails scratching against her scalp as she dragged her fingers through tousled locks.
the anger swirled on, boiling through the cracks of the little box she always so carefully tucked it into. carcosa slammed the gun down, the violent crash of metal against wood echoing throughout her home. “i got news for ya, eve: this isn’t my fault.” her nostrils flared, fists balled tightly into tiny fists.
Tumblr media
“you really think i’d leave a couple’a thousand layin’ ‘round here without keepin’ this place under lock an’ key?” carcosa stormed back to the discarded tin, holding it up and shaking the useless item as she spoke. “i ain’t got that much to steal, eve! i don’t keep cash in the house, ‘cept for what i was gonna pay you.” living in a bad neighborhood made one immensely thankful for the safety of a bank.
“someone had to have known this was here. who th’ fuck else would’a known ‘bout the money?”

faith slightly winced at the usage of the curse word, sounding harsh against her ears, but slowly shook her head ‘no’ again.
“the only cinderella i’ve ever heard of is the disney movie,” she shrugged honestly, nervously laughing in her own embarrassment. “what exactly is a ‘night song?’”
Tumblr media
her brow arched, an amused smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth. “should’a figured that.” carcosa teased, sliding the record back into the bin with care. “ya don’t really seem like th’ type.”
she laughed to herself, dark locks bouncing with the shake of her head. “not really sure if there’s a particular meanin’ to it, but it’s the name’a the album.” she started to thumb through another stack, glancing at her out of the corner of her eye. “an’ it jus’ happens to be one’a my favorite songs by ‘em.”
                                                                       ( ... )

she didn’t know why she’d called eve first.
carcosa sat silently among the mess of broken glass and toppled over furniture, looking over the wreckage with a solemn stare. her eyes still stung from the tears that had only quit flowing moments before, sniffling weakly as she kicked a splintered piece of wood to the side. she awaited the ominous sound of her boss’ arrival, far too dejected to worry about the inevitable rage the youngest thorne would bring with her.
a good couple thousand. gone. just like that. a sense of disbelief still filled her, wishful thinking telling carcosa that this couldn’t be real. she wished for any other outcome; perhaps a cruel prank, or some sort of twisted lesson served up by eve herself that she just had yet to understand. but as she reached for the now empty coffee tin and felt its hollow weight in her hands, the crushing sense of reality was almost too much to bare. the light at the end of the tunnel that had once seemed so close had been snuffed out, her future with the thornes now appearing indefinite.
well, if she even had a future at all by this point.                     there was still no guarantee she wouldn’t be meeting the business end of eve’s bat for this.
she threw the old tin across the room in a fit of frustration, the sound of it crashing against the opposite wall not nearly satisfying enough. carcosa frantically thumbed through the cash she’d made that night, counting her earnings for a fifth, then a sixth time. unsurprisingly enough, the amount didn’t change. it wasn’t enough to cover what she’d lost --- didn’t even begin to replace what she needed in order to pay bumfuck’s very own meth tycoons off for good.
so in short, she was royally fucked. a furious banging at her door snapped the brunette out of her spiral of doom and despair, heaving a hefty sigh as she slowly rose to her feet. carcosa swallowed hard, feeling as if weights were strapped to her ankles, dragging herself towards the front door. nausea bubbled in the pit of her stomach as she unlocked and opened it, eve’s form illuminated by her dim porch light. she peered over the woman’s shoulder briefly, making sure the street was clear before inviting her in with a nod of her head.
Tumblr media
once inside, carcosa didn’t say much of anything. instead, she walked towards the previously discarded tin, glass crunching under her boots with every step. she tossed it towards the blonde, jaw clenched and lips pressed into a thin line as she allowed eve to examine it and its lack of contents.
“it’s gone.” carcosa finally said, a tremble in her voice. “the money -” she had to stop, breathe, and try again. “the money i owe ya... it’s gone --- all of it.” she gulped, dragging a near-shaking hand through her hair. “someone must’ve come in here an’ took it while i was out. i-it was here when i left, but then when i got back...” carcosa trailed off. there was no need to explain any further.

cxletteyxung:
It would be just fan-damn-tastic if once, just o n c e, her little brother acted like he had a lick of goddamn sense. She wasn’t Joey’s mother but she sure as fuck was going to act like it if the seventeen year old didn’t start acting like he didn’t burn out all his brain cells with the amount of toxic shit that he put in his body. She didn’t give a fuck if he decided to act like a fuckin dumbass, but she gets called down to the station one more time about him vandalizing something or pissing in front of some poor church bitch, she was going to kill him. If he’s going to be that stupid, at least be slick enough to not get caught for fuck’s sake.
Colette had just finished chewing his delinquent ass a new one when she was called in to Snake ‘n’ Jake’s for another shift. They were short staffed - what a fuckin’ shocker. Maybe if some people would get off their goddamn high horse and actually tend the bar, it wouldn’t be so swamped. Pulling a cigarette from her lips, as she approached the bar, the brunette was affronted by cat calls from her ‘regulars.’ So loyal and complimentary to her and her tits; and everyday she dreams of drowning them. The smile she flashes them is accompanied by a middle finger as she slips behind the bar.
Tumblr media
Flicking a strand of hair out of her eye, she looks over to one of the customers- one that looked slightly less aggravating than the fifty something MC member that had a pension for putting his tip money in her cleavage. Sliding over to them, she arched a brow. “The fuck you want?” She asked; the regulars at the bar were used to her ‘cute’ way of taking orders, smiling at her like she was some adorable puppy that they put up with because she was something nice to look at.
she didn’t need to turn around to know who it was, colette’s voice sticking out over the clacking of pool balls and whatever willie nelson song was currently cranking over the jukebox. that, and the reaction’s of the men around them was more of a dead give away than anything; their whistles and hollers reserved only for the prettiest of the snake n’ jake’s staff, the young bartender being one of their favorites.
it was something that made carcosa actually feel sympathy for her, though she’d never be stupid enough to admit it. tell colette young that she dared to pity her? no way. she planned on keeping all of her teeth intact for as long as possible, thank you very much.
the misogyny that ran rampant throughout the club was something carcosa wasn’t blind to, nor was any other woman that had ever come into contact with members of the coffin cheaters. everyone had their own ways of dealing with it; whether that was simply turning a blind eye or digging their boots into the mud and fighting the toxicity with rebellion.
but then there was colette, a walking paradox that carcosa had yet to understand. how someone with bones seemingly made of steel and a shell of iron could let these men walk all over her was beyond her grasp. for a woman with a ‘take no prisoners’ sort of attitude, colette sure never did much to stop the members from treating her like that one stiff sock they all kept in the bottom of a drawer.
then again, it wasn’t as if carcosa had much of a mouth when eve came around, was it? perhaps a quick look in the mirror would remind her that considering the circumstances, her room to talk was limited.
“well good evenin’ to you too,” carcosa responded coolly, turning in her seat. her soft features settled into a grimace, hand propping up her chin as her elbow rested against the bar. there was always a hint of hostility between the two, each of them harboring their own justifications as to why. their relationship was a delicate balancing act, either woman holding onto secrets that, if spilled, could send the other’s already shitty life plummeting towards rock bottom. or whatever the hell came after that.
“don’t you just look lively?” a snarky remark laced with a sickly sweet tone, masked by what would appear only to be a friendly smile to passersby. “wasn’t sure if i’d see ya here or not --- heard ‘bout your brother as i was leavin’ work.” she finished off the whiskey she’d been nursing, sliding the empty glass towards colette in a silent motion for a refill.
Tumblr media
“if he was lookin’ to stick it to th’ man or whatever, my first suggestion wouldn’t be pissin’ on churches.”

bettieloucooper:
“I know the fairy tale and that’s it.” Liz said, actually feeling a little awkward. “I don’t know about any album…” The only music that had played in the house when Liz was a girl had been her father’s country and blues records. The only exceptions had been the lullabies her mother sang to her in Seminole, and those had been few and far between.
“I believe you.” Liz said. “You don’t have to try and prove anything to me.”
Tumblr media
“hardly anythin’ like the fairy tale.” carcosa replied, snickering to herself. “unless you trade the mice for hairspray an’ the slippers for dope.”
Tumblr media
her brow raised in question, the brunette offering her the record with a small smile. “take a look, if ya want.” she gently urged, a hand running through her hair. “only reason i ever heard of ‘em is because my dad’s a big fan, y’know?” she smiled fondly at the mention of him, a twinge of pain reflecting in her eyes, here one second and gone the next.
“country an’ rock n’ roll’s pretty much all he ever played, but nothin’ beat his love’a johnny.”

Charlie eyed the vinyl carefully, slender fingers reaching out to SNATCH the album from the brunette. She studied the men on the cover with what appeared to be great intensity, pupils darting over the extravagant outfits the singers were clothed in.
“Well…” A loud, short laugh escaped her lips. “Never heard of ‘em, no, but I’m likin’ the STYLE they got. Maybe I’ll give em’ a listen. Seems like somethin’ I’d be into. Any songs you’d recommend?”
Tumblr media
“if ya like guns n’ roses, then these guys might be right up your alley.” she paused, eyes briefly flickering up and down the aisle, as if in search of wandering ears. “an’ don’t tell anyone i said this,” she leaned closer, voice lower than before. “but in my opinion, they just might be better.”
Tumblr media
a chuckle breezed past her lips as carcosa resumed her business, idly flipping through another bin of records. “shake me’s always a good one, so is back home again an’ night songs.”
“what ‘bout you? got any must ‘aves?”

“you’re fuckin’ with me, right?” carcosa’s tone was laced with astonishment, standing there with wide eyes and arched brows. she hurriedly flipped through a bin of records, fingers moving a mile a minute until she found the vinyl she desired.
“you can’t honestly tell me you’ve never heard of cinderella.” she said, displaying the album proudly. “night songs is easily one’a the best records to come outta the eighties.”

❝ ya’ t’s the plan. one less somber soul in bumfuck.❞ with a snap of her bubble gum, and a roll of her eyes hunter grumbled under her breathe. ❝ good to see you too mini lusk. were’s you’re mistress. off choppin’ dicks ? ❞ hunter drawled. she turned towards the petite brunette offering a small smirk.
Tumblr media
“mind keepin’ me outta that plan? eve’ll dig me up just to kill my candy ass all over again if i don’t show tonight.” a fresh batch of adam’s specialty was ready for distribution, the thornes just itching with anticipation at the thought of further flooding bumfuck’s streets with their poison.
her eyes rolled at the further mention of the youngest thorne, the term ‘mistress’ leaving a vile taste in the back of her throat. “somethin’ like that, i’d imagine.” she responded bitterly, a listless scoff filling the air. “as long as she ain’t here ridin’ my dick, i don’t really give a shit where she is.”
Tumblr media
carcosa fished through her bag, producing two cigarettes and a lighter. “so what’re you up to, selway?” she asked, offering hunter one as she placed the other between her lips. “club business, or just your usual debauchery?”

small gasps and coughs were heard as tires screeched against the dirt road, blowing dust clouds everywhere. the protests fell on deaf ears as hunter paid no mind to those she had purposely covered in dirt. exiting her car, she eyed the person she had taken the last parking spot from, ❝ Oops. looks like you were too slow. ❞ giving the poor soul a smirk, hunter waltzed on by.
Tumblr media
a rigid middle finger was carcosa’s first reaction, paired with a few choice curses for the woman that had apparently learned to drive yesterday. she’d slammed on the breaks just in time, nearly colliding with the opposing vehicle had she been a second too late.
nabbing a new spot took longer than she would’ve liked, the search only frustrating carcosa further. curses and swears were muttered the entire way, the old pickup finally rumbling its way into an empty slot. in one swift motion she’d cut the engine and swiped her keys from the ignition, landing in the dirt with a soft thud as her boots hit the ground.
“hey!” carcosa nearly barked, the back of the woman’s head coming into view. she hurried to catch up, little legs carrying her as fast as they possibly could.
Tumblr media
“what the hell was that about?” she demanded, tone was laced with irritation. she fell into stride beside her, leaving a trail of dust in her wake. “you tryin’ to get people fuckin’ killed or somethin’?”
