I'll just answer it again!

It was a force of habit. He didn't realize what he was doing until dear old Poppy was down the hatch.

See, they were homeless for most of their life, and lived off of wild animals. Namely, cats. So they didn't think anything of it at first.

After she was in their "stomach", they freaked out and [to prevent her from dying a horrible death and at LEAST not feel like she isn't disintegrating while doing so] they absorbed her into themself. [Small fun fact! Gradients don't have gag reflexes, so he couldn't have gotten her out that way.]

As I said before in an earlier post, this is common for gradients to do. Absorbing an animal. But Gradie did it wrong. Absorbing an already half-digested animal does.. bad things.

I will say that the week following the incident was a very interesting week. Poor Lampert had to deal with this rascal.

Fun fact: Gradie is NOT the first gradient that has combined themself with an animal. [They also did it incorrectly, which is why they're so.. weird.]

All gradients have the ability to combine with animals! Most of them combine with rats and wild animals and the likes. A surprising amount like to combine with birds! Here's Random Gradient, our guest, who combined with a mouse!

THEY did it correctly! Congrats, Random! Although, if done incorrectly, one of two things may happen 1: Nothing happens. 2: The gradient gets overrun by the animal, and so it takes control.

Gradie is an interesting case, though, as they're stuck between the two options. Poptart isn't quite in control, but it's not like nothing happened either. It just depends on circumstance.
