The arc of Rider in Fate/Stay Night is the story of a monster who is a hero to one girl. Just one girl. She is simultaneously an anti-hero and yet one of the kindest and most empathetic characters. They stand in contrast to each other but are not contradictory. She is fundamentally a monster, someone who has to hurt and kill in order to survive, and yet unbelievably kind. It’s very unlikely that any of the other Servants would have treated Sakura with the same respect for her feelings and wishes.
Maybe monsters are merely motivated by self-interest. Maybe that’s what separates Rider from the other “heroes”. But being able to see herself in Sakura made Rider the very Servant Sakura needed.
Rider is the best damn character in F/SN. Change my damn mind.

Because I’m a huge nerd and I care about this stuff I’ve analysed the Fate/EXTRA Record trailer to see if the battle system is still the same.
Tumblr media
This is the one battle sequence with UI we see during the trailer
Tumblr media
As you can see, you have a limited amount of AP per turn (which I assume stands for “Action Points” or something similar)
Tumblr media
Based on the icons on the bottom row, the main actions still seem to be “Attack”, “Break”, and “Guard”. There’s also an extra action that may be a buff.
Tumblr media
Each of the actions has a number on the top left. That number is how much AP each action costs. For example, in the battle shown in the trailer, Nero’s chain consists of 2 Attacks and a Break, which uses all 4 of her available AP.
Tumblr media
After the chain is over, as you can see, she can’t use the defense move, but she can still use her 0 AP buff thingy before ending her turn.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also these numbers on the bottom left that i have no fucking clue what they are. The one on the far left goes down by 1 with each action used, and the 3rd one from the left goes up by 1. Other than that, I don’t know what it does.
In conclusion, there’s still much we don’t know about this new battle system, but there’s one thing we can say for sure: it is NOT the same memorization-based system used in the original Fate/Extra release. Which is GREAT BECAUSE THAT SYSTEM SUCKED, YAAAAY!

Can you imagine like, a Clock Tower inspector being told Gudako has a servant that acts as a conduit for a being who holds all knowledge. Despite the warnings from the flustered master that the servant in question is not to be taken lightly, he orders Gudako to grant an audience with the servant, and brings the servant into the interrogation room to be spoken to alone.
The Servant called Abby appears small and timid, and answers the questions about the Root she’s asked politely but unhelpfully, causing the mage to shout and demand more from the entity she channels.
Slowly, the air grows heavier, and the mage begins to notice uncomfortable details about the Servant. She seemed like an adorable little girl at first glance, but now her eyes look too glassy like those of a doll, and something keeps making the mage glance at her forehead. The girl is missing some teeth, and her dress is dirty and ruined. She also smells. Oh gods, she smells like she hasn’t bathed in years, like dead fish rolled in cow shit. It makes the mage’s eyes water, and he must wipe them just to see.
When his vision clears, the distance between the mage and the Servant has appeared to stretch to the point where the little girl can barely be seen, and the only door out has disappeared entirely. The mage begins to hear scratching noises coming from inside his head, and he can’t block them out. The scratching grows louder and louder, until the mage can’t even hear his own voice. When he claps his hands on his ears to make it stop, something wet flows down his cheek. He looks at his hands. His fingernails are gone, and from within the soft, bubbling flesh emerges hundreds of maggots. The maggots burrow their way through the mage’s fingertips and spill on to the now bloodied floor, shrieking in pain as they grow into flies before the mage’s very eyes, legs and wings sprouting from their putrid forms.
“Let us back!” the flies shriek in human voices. “Let us back inside!”
The mage wants to scream, but as he opens his mouth the flies jump inside, choking him with their numbers. He falls off his chair, flailing wildly as he tries in vain to breathe. Blocked off, the other insects invade his nose and ears, and yet others more attack his eyes, devouring them until his vision is nothing but black, and his world is nothing but the cries of the damned.
“Let us back! Let us back inside!”
There is nothing, nothing but the continued shrieking of the flies. Or are those the shrieks of people? The mage can no longer feel his limbs, his face, even the floor he fell upon. He is floating in darkness. Horrible, crushing darkness.
He still cannot scream.
After what feels like an eternity, his eyes (does he even still have eyes?) catch a glimpse of something. It is the girl, but it is not the girl.
The shrieking voices vanish all at once.
It is a mass of glowing orbs, a mess of eyes and writhing tendrils that pulse with a sickly light. It is the one-in-all, and the all-in-one, and underneath its gaze the mage understands why the ancients fell to their knees in the presence of the gods.
“MAGUS,” the thing seems to say, “YOU DID NOT FLEE LIKE A CHILD FROM A SCENE DISLIKED TO A DREAM BELOVED, BUT PLUNGED LIKE A MAN INTO THIS LAST AND INNMOST OF SECRETS THAT LIES BEHIND ALL SCENES AND DREAMS. SPEAK WHAT YOU WISH TO KNOW AND I SHALL ANSWER THUSLY, FOR EVEN THE ULTIMATE MYSTERY - WHICH TO LOOK ON IS TO BLAST A FEEBLE SPIRIT - IS NOT HIDDEN FROM ME.”
In that moment the mage feels nothing, knows nothing, cares for nothing, for the path to the Root of Akasha was opened to him. He only need ask for it…
“Tell me! How does one open a path to the R-”
“Abby darling, let’s take a break? I made you pancakes!”
The darkness is gone. The lights are on. Both mage and servant are back in their chairs.
“Yaaaaaay! Pancakes!”
The little Servant rushes out the door of the interrogation room, practically leaping into Gudako’s arms as they run off towards the facility’s canteen.
The mage is left sitting there, staring blankly at the sterile, empty room.

The gamepress tier list is whack as fuck because it’s like “this Servant is mediocre on their own but is Fucked Strong when teamed up with Skadi, so they’re in A++ tier” bro if they’re dependent on a limited 5 star to be strong then they ain’t top tier, you can’t just say anything you want, please think for more than 2 minutes before writing a guide.

Now that I’ve gotten into Fate/Stay Night, I just got the cursed realization that Saber and Sonic the Hedgehog share too many things in common:
· Both are blue with green eyes;
· Both can move really fast;
· Both are the official mascots of their respective franchises;
· Both have tons of alternate characters based on their designs (Saber Alter/Shadow, Mordred/Scourge, Saber Lily/Silver, etc.);
· Both have strong senses of justice;
· It is canon in the Sonic Universe that Sonic became King Arthur and ruler of Camelot;
· Sonic can also wield Caliburn and Excalibur;
· The theme song for Sonic and the Black Knight, Knight of the Wind, also fits well with Saber’s character;
· Both can’t swim
Feel free to add more similarities if you’re just as woke as me for discovering this.
