Ava comes to meet Cassie accidentally–she was getting therapy, and slowly being integrated back into society after so long. Scott was in charge of bringing her up to speed on some pop culture, and had decided that the facility Hope and Janet were using was too…science-y. It was all silver and future and blah. 

So when he thinks Cassie is at school and it’s not one of those weird teacher in-service days, he brings Ava over to his house. 

“Don’t mind the toys,” Scott says. “We were playing Super-Adventure-Barbie.” Ava smiled at the dolls scattered around, and is careful not to step on anything. “Okay Ava, so we’re gonna start slow, just a couple of television shows and trivia. I know you like learning a lot, and they just put Jeopardy! on Netflix, so–” 

“Daddy!” Cassie squeals, racing down the stairs. Scott looks surprised, but smiles as he lifts his daughter up, embracing her in a hug. 

“Hey peanut, I thought you had school today.” 

“Next Friday is the no-school day. Not this Friday. Don’t worry, mom told me what I’m doing. And I have a science project.” Her eyes shift over to Ava, and she grins. Ava is not used to that. 

“Hi Auntie Ava!” She waves, flounces off to her room to work on homework or something else, leaving Ava stunned. The last family she considered was Bill, and no one else had really…well. It had been getting better. Hope painted her nails and styled her hair in various braids and plaits. Scott made her laugh, and Janet…she was like a mother to Ava, not that she’d ever tell her that. 

“Oh yeah, sorry about that,” Scott says. “Cassie thinks you’re, like, the coolest person in the world. She keeps writing out stories and you and her feature extensively as the heroes. So keep an eye out, she might ask for a hug from you when we’re done.” 

Ava doesn’t really focus on the trivia show, murmuring out occasional answers. Scott makes her laugh by giving oddly specific descriptions of the players. She’s thinking about Cassie, and the easy acceptance. 

She accepts a hug from Cassie with a grin. 

“I’ll have to visit more often, would you like that?” she asks. Cassie grins. 

“That’d be the coolest thing ever!”
