London’s biggest screening party for the Eurovision Song Contest finals has been canceled, the venue Rio Cinema and organizer Eurovision Party London have said. “Following discussion with the organizers of Eurovision Party London, we have collectively decided not to screen the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest this year while Israel remains in the competition,” the Rio Cinema said in a statement on X. “The Eurovision Party London has been a beloved partner of The Rio Cinema for many years, and we will continue to work with them in the future. We firmly believe that the Eurovision Song Contest has the power to bring people together across the world, and when its core values of inclusivity, equality and universality are upheld, it can be a genuine force for good. With its own slogan in mind, we hope that we can all be United By Music again soon. We will continue to organize fundraising events for the charities we support, including Doctors Without Borders and Medical Aid for Palestine.”

This is the same thing over and over again. Palestinians die every day, but it gets a lukewarm headline from mainstream media because death and destruction is inherent to Arabness. Then an aid convoy with white workers is obliterated, and now both the president of the United States and the president of Israel are making statements apologizing for “the poor protection of aid workers.” At one point we were seeing multiple reports a day of paramedics from the Palestine Red Crescent Society dying, but nothing. Crickets. Because they don’t care. And even in these “remorseful statements” there is a strategic reminder that white lives hold more weight than brown lives.

I’m just so fucking pissed off man if they can surgically airstrike international volunteer food workers three consecutive times to ensure their operation is wiped out completely what the fuck is left for anyone to say

expanding on my other post (about Miles/the Spot/responsibility), I think a big part of the reason why people seeing Miles as irresponsible/rude towards the Spot is so frustrating to me is because Miles really seems to already have this... mindset. In his dynamics with other people.
Like, there's a certain subset of people who seem to think Miles' arc is that he's going to have to learn to take responsibility, take the Spot more seriously. But Miles has such a clear pattern of behavior over the two films where he's clearly used to taking responsibility for supporting the people around him.
People talk about how Miles is so amazing because he helped Peter B turn his life around, and his birth gave his parents motivation to majorly change their lives for the better, and his uncle loved Miles so much he chose to sacrifice his own life for Miles to live. And it's great that Miles makes such a positive impact on the people around him! But also--I would bet good money that Miles is very aware of this.
Growing up, it seems like he had to be the only sort of "bridge" between Aaron and Jeff after their falling out, and in the first movie we see Miles fielding both of their opinions/feelings about the other, at different times ("You wanna end up like your uncle?" / "He's a good guy, it's just... you know"). That is such an awkward position for a kid to be in. And oftentimes, when kids have to be the middle-man like this, they start to get it in their head that they're the ones who have to fix everything/keep everything from breaking.
And we see that in the way Miles supports Peter B--the "you're amazing, man" and the "I think this is a cape" (distracting Peter from being upset about MJ) comes to mind. He's really supportive. And later, when Peter tries to sacrifice himself, Miles is the one that comforts him and tells him it's okay to go home and he needs to turn his life around.
Like... none of that was accidental. Miles is actively taking on a supportive role for Peter B.
He does the same thing with Gwen a lot ("If you ever decided to do friends again..." / "You and your dad--you still haven't talked?" / "I'm just a really emotionally intelligent guy"). I'm not even gonna get into it because this is getting long. But trust that it's there.
(Which, sidepoint, is why I hope that Gwen and Miles' falling out is gonna be a catalyst to give this little trait Miles has some development/spotlight in the next movie--but that could be a whole other post.)
Anyway, going back to the Spot. THIS is why it's frustrating when people act like Miles needs to learn responsibility. Like, Miles already knows. He's already learned this lesson. His entire life mindset is centered around being a support to others. And if he were to lean into that more, become "more responsible--" it would really really not be healthy for him. At least I don't think so.

I've heard people talk about the Themes of Across the Spiderverse, and about how "You can't have your cake and eat it too," and about how their excited to see how Miles chooses between saving his dad and being Spider-man, but I don't think that's actually the theme of the movie at all.
Miles himself says that you can have your cake and eat it too, if you have two cakes. I think a lot of people write this line off after the scene where he literally tries to bring two cakes to his dad's party and they both get ruined, but that, in my opinion, is the point. You can have two cakes, but you can't carry them alone.
Look at what happens in Mumbhatten. Pavitr tries to save his girlfriend and her father, he tries to have both cakes, and it Works! But only because Miles stepped in and helped. Or later when Miles escapes Miguel's force-field. He only manages that thanks to Hobie's advice. Or what about the end of the film when Miles is stranded in the wrong dimension, with no way to get back. The only way he'll get home in the third film is because his friends are coming to get him, who are themselves only in a position to help because Hobie provided them with Home-brewed Multiverse Watches.
That's the core theme of the film, Community; how instead of working alone and being forced to accept the most optimal compromise, we can work together and find a better path forward. That's why the Spider Society are the film's villains. Because they've built and entire secret base, full to bursting with the greatest Spider-people in existence, and yet they've sworn off helping each other.
They have super-scientists from every branch of reality in there. They have hyper-advanced technology. They have nigh-unlimited resources and manpower. And yet, none of them are trying to find a solution to the Canon Events, none of them are trying to stop these tragedies from befalling yet more spiders. They all just sit back and say "This is how it must be, and there is nothing that can be done to change it." No, actually, it's worse than just sitting there and doing nothing, they actively intervene to ensure these horrific events take place.
That's why Miles is able to evade all of them. Because, despite their numbers, none of them are working together, none of them are fighting as a team. And that's why, in Beyond the Spiderverse, Miles will get both cakes. Because he'll have a team backing him up.
