Now that I've fully processed the album: I won't lie I find it really odd that so many hard core swifties are genuinely mad that she changed the lyrics in better than revenge. The truth is the original lyric was really not that problematic and if she had kept it, where she is in her career right now, i guarantee no one would have cared. Which is why her changing it clearly was for her own peace of mind, and her own current values, not because she's afraid to get "cancelled" it's weird that people feel like she owes us anything, if she feels more comfortable with new lyrics how is that an issue? Of course she knows this will devalue the rerecording, that's obviously a chance she's decided to take in order to keep her discography in line with her values. Also, while the song itself isn't that problematic, you have to acknowledge how hypocritical it would be of her to not change the lyrics when she's called out arguably less offensive things of the same vein in recent years (i.e the ginny and goergia line)
