09. The bottle

Yn woke up to the sound of her loud alarm signaling that it was another day of university. The girl reached out her phone and smiled once she saw what was on her screen, a good morning text from her crush. She got out bed and began to get ready for the day, with the sweet good morning text from Soobin she couldn’t stop smiling.

Knock.knock.knock.

“Yn, hurry up Kai wants to buy those egg tarts for breakfast.” Her older brother opened her door. “It’s my treat so you better hurry up or else I change my mind.”

Taehyun said as he wanted to make his sister panic. “Taehyun wait-“ As Taehyun closed the door, Yn was now panicking knowing very well how her brother is. She quickly got her bag and a pinkish bottle as she rushed out of her room.

“KAI WHERE ARE YOU?” Yn screamed searching for her cousin as she rushed down the stairs.

She saw her brother on his phone waiting for her and their cousin. “Where’s kai?” she asked her brother as he pointed to the door near their counter without even looking at the girl.

Some brother, she thought as the girl placed the bottle on the counter. Yn entered the door leading to the back of their shop, she greeted her mother and gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Mom have you seen Kai?” She asked as she took some cookies to snack on for the day. “I thought he was upstairs?” Her mother replied.

“Yn what’s taking so long? Kai is here!” Taehyun shouted. “Yn we’re leaving now! I’m very hungry!” Kai also shouted. “I swear Kang Taehyun always jokes on me. Bye mom see you later!” Yn bid her mother goodbye as she rushed outside to give her brother a punch. “You did this on purpose!” She fumed.

“Maybe? Or maybe not.” Taehyun smirked. “Will the two of you quit it, I’m very hungry” Kai cried.

Yn grabbed the bottle on the counter and the trio left to get their breakfast.

FEW HOURS LATER

The bells alarm signaling the end of the period of Yn’s last class for the day. They bid farewell to their professor as they started packing up their belongings, Yn couldn’t hide her grin as she was supposed to meet Soobin today.

“Hey Yn, I think there’s someone looking for you.” Her classmate told her as she said goodbye.

Yn picked up her bag and made her way outside her classroom, “Did I took too long? I’m sorry history class always has the longest lecture ever.” Yn said in distress worrying that Soobin waited for a long time.

“I just got here, don’t worry about it.” Soobin smiled.

I swear you could be the death of me. Yn thought.

They made their way to the university’s library to rest from a very hectic day from college. Yes, the library is the best place to study, sleep, hide and eat (without the librarian knowing). The two sat near the window as they continued to talk about what happened in their day.

“I was really lucky my professor did not catch me sleeping.” Soobin said in relief. “And who’s fault was to stay up late playing video games?” Yn grinned. “I blame Choi Beomgyu for this.” He frowned and Yn chuckled.

“I swear he’s always cheating, like how does he always win at any game?” Soobin groaned. “That guy is always full of suprises” Yn laughed. “More like full of mischief.” Soobin weakly smiled.

“Oh I have something for you!” Yn said excitedly.

“Hmm?” He hummed.

“I know you had a draining day so I made this lucky drink to make take all the stress away!” She cheered. Yn took out a pinkish red bottle she brought with her earlier this morning. “It’s actually grapefruit juice mixed with strawberries” She scratched her neck. “Are you sure this isn’t any potion from your shop?” He teased. “Now why would I do that?” She blushed as they laughed.

“Thank you. I really appreciate this.” Soobin smiled as he opened the bottle. “I think I still have snacks here let me check.” Yn said as she rummaged her bag for the cookies she brought.

Soobin smelled the scent of the bottle, it smelled like grapefruits, strawberries and an unfamiliar scent. He placed the bottle in his mouth to take a sip of the drink yn made. He felt weird. He looked at Yn who was busy looking for snacks.

“Here it is!! I also made this last night!” She grinned.

Yn took out two nicely wrapped cookies as she smiled at Soobin, the golden glow shining on her through the window. Something is definitely wrong. His heart started beating fast, like his feelings wanted to come out.

She looks so beautiful.

“Yn.” Soobin muttered.

“Yes?” Yn hummed still waving the cookies in her hand. She noticed Soobin suddenly serious. “Is there something wrong?” She asked worriedly.

“I.. I like you.” Soobin confessed with a blush on his face.

synopsis: You used to love the idea of soulmates, but there were no signs of you having one. But what if one day you suddenly see something written on your wrist and all you heard was the voice of who sang those written words?

Soulmates.

They say each person has a different way of meeting their soulmate, some hear their voices, some see colors when they meet theirs and some even have glowing necklaces.

Ever since you were little, you loved the idea of soulmates. You always idolized your parent’s story of how they met, your dad even teased you that he wouldn’t allow anyone steal his beloved child. So you waited for any sign of your soulmate, not until high school.

You weren’t jealous. Actually you were, but it seems like you didn’t have any. No voices, no necklaces or bracelets and you can perfectly see colors. You were left clueless of what or where the possibility of having a soulmate. Even when you graduated high school there was still no sign of anything.

It felt devastating.

All your friends found theirs and always asked you if you found yours yet, it was quite annoyingly sweet when they talk about how they met theirs or how their soulmates treat them. All you could do is put on a smile and listen to them.

Even your parents started to worry, they never heard any stories of someone not having a soulmate.

When college arrived, you came to a conclusion that there might not be someone out there for you.

You tried to push those thoughts away by distracting yourself with college, they said it will be one of the best things in your life. Parties, friends, freedom that was all a teen wanted, but you couldn’t deny that you were really excited what college has in stored for you. But….

College is a bitch.

You didn’t expect college to be like hell, as claimed by you and your friends. Certainly you didn’t expect sleepless nights making essays, reports, book reviews and such. And certainly you didn’t expect one demonic professor on your major subject, which is why you are drunkly crying to your roommate, Bahiyyih.

“She…Makes..mymlife a living hell!” You sob while Hiyyih just rubbed your back. “SHe said my topics are boring!” you said furiously. “IT hAs tO bE JUicy" you mocked what your professor said. “YOU KNOW WHAT’S UNFAIR??” You stood up “SHE GIVES MY GUY CLASSMATES A PERFECT SCORE JUST BECAUSE THEY BREATHE!” You almost shouted. Bahiyyih made a face of disgust “Such a whore” she said.

“RIGHT???” You smiled at her

After ranting out to Hiyyih and passing out on your couch, she placed a blanket over you and headed to her room.

“Change your topic.” Your professor said. “Do you think people will be interested in this?” Her eyebrows raised.

All you could do was stay silent. You were for sure the story of Echo and Narcissus would be interesting, but you were starting to think she hated your existence. How come you were the only one struggling? Your other classmates were enjoying their life meanwhile you were here facing an inconsiderate she-demon.

“I’ll give you another chance, since I am very kind hearted” She batted her eyelashes to you.

Spawn of devil you mean.

“You have until the end of this month to finish such an amazing and juicy report okay?” She patted your head as if you were some dog. “Now go on little one, you should enjoy life more!” She squealed. “Do you have a boyfriend? You know you should give me stories like relationships or affairs of celebrities, not this Greek shit” She said. You clenched your fist, clearly this person did not learn her history to know how this was a legendary love story.

Another paper worth of 2 sleepless weeks wasted. You thought.

You didn’t know how you made your way outside the university’s studio room. You were too busy thinking about possible topics to write about, honestly you just wanted a quiet place to think and oddly enough there weren’t anyone around. So here you were sitting by the bench outside the studio.

“Do you have a boyfriend?”

You never would have thought you’d think about your soulmate at times like this. She had to remind you that you might not even have a soulmate, what a bitch.

You can’t help but wonder about your soulmate. Do they exist? What were they doing? How old were they? So many thoughts invaded your brain as silence embraced you.

Your thoughts were interrupted by faint laughter coming inside the studio, you were sure there was nobody around or maybe you were busy thinking too much. A tune started to play, you couldn’t recognize what song it was so you guess this was someone’s own song.

Was this eavesdropping? You thought, but you couldn’t help but pay attention to the lyrics.

A single heat

And my freezing hands

The moment they meet, it all melts down

Somehow the song comforted you as the song continued as another voice came in,

You’re my orbit

You’re my one and only

Suddenly there was a ticklish feeling on your wrist, and you could not believe your eyes.

A soulmate mark.

As the song continued to play in the background, you were stuck on your seat too shocked to process what just happened. You weren’t hallucinating things right? It was literally on your skin right now, you have a soulmate. Whoever sang that line was your soulmate, you have a soulmate.

You were too lost in your thoughts to even notice that music stopped and five boys came out of the studio. “Oh sorry we took too long” The tallest one apologized as you snapped out of your thoughts.

They look like gods, you stared at them. “Were you going to use the studio?” The guy continued. Still shocked with what happened, you just shook your head and politely bowed at them. They returned the gesture and went on their way, all you could think of is finding out who was your soulmate.

“Hey Arin?” You had few classes with Arin before, she also took some writing courses and you guys just clicked. “Do you know who uses the studio a lot?” You asked her, this might give you a lead about your soulmate. “Hmm, Jihoon sunbaenim used the studio a lot before he got his own studio off campus.” She replied “Why? Do you need the studio for something?” She asked.

“Do you perhaps know 5 guys who used it yesterday?” You replied her question with another question.

“Oh you must be talking about Soobin and his friends! They use the studio a lot now” She hummed. “I heard Kai is working on a new song, he’s such a talented kid.” She continued. You still weren’t sure if this Kai guy was your soulmate it could possibly be that Soobin guy. “Why are you suddenly interested in them Yn? Do you have a crush on them?” She wiggled her eyebrows. “More like one of them is my soulmate” You said in frustration and showed Arin your wrist. She gasped and you told her what happened.

“Don’t worry Yn, soulmates are connected for a reason. I’m not sure if Kai wrote this or even sang this, but I’m sure you’ll meet him soon” She reassured you.

You hoped so.

Soulmates.

That was the topic you’ll be writing about and just hope your she-demon professor would finally accept your report, but the problem was how will you even write about soulmates when you barely even got to meet yours.

Running low on caffeine, you decided to stop by a café to get your daily dose of coffee. The bittersweet smell hit your nose and the sound of the door chimes, you made your way to the counter to order and when you were done you stood to the side to wait.

Your eyes wondered around the café and found a familiar face, you couldn’t help but stare at him. He looked like a living angel and you swore he almost looked like your roommate. Kai felt a pair of eyes and looked for who it coul be. Your eyes met with his and he felt like he was in awe, he has never seen such a beautiful person in his life. You guys don’t realize it but the two of you were already blushing.

“Kai are you okay? Your face looks red” One of his friend asked as they place a hand over his forehead. Kai’s trance was broken by his hyungs, “An Iced Latte for Yn!” The barista shouted. Your trance was broken as you rushed to the counter to get your order. As you made your way to the door, you gave Kai one last glance only for you to see he was also looking at you. He gave you a gentle smile that made butterflies flutter in your stomach, you returned the gesture and left the café.

“Yn..” Kai muttered under his breath.

“Yn??” Soobin, Kai’s older friend, asked. “Who’s Yn?” Yeonjun, the eldest asked. “KAI’S BLUSHING OMO” Beomgyu shouted.

Was the only thing stuck in your head right now, you tried remembering how the song went.

“Earth to yn, are you here?” Bahiyyih waved her hand infront of you. “Seems like something is bothering you” She said. “Okay lay it on me” She sat down next to you.

“My soulmate…” You muttered out.

Her eyes widened, “YOUR WHAT??” She stood up as you showed her your wrist. “FINALLY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!” She cheered. “Does he look good? What is he like?” She continued to ask. “I haven’t met them..” You looked down. “What?” She stared.

“All I know is that it could be one of those five guys who sang this verse.” You said in defeat.

“You’re my orbit? Why does that sound so familiar…” She began to think, “I can’t place my finger on it” She sighed. “Anyways what’s important is that you finally have a soulmate!” She hugged you. “We should head to bed, I have to meet up with my sister to give her something tomorrow.” She yawned. “Go ahead I have to finish this report” You smiled at her. “Don’t stay up too late okay? Love you yn!” She waved as she headed to her room.

Honestly you weren’t really able to focus on your report, because all you could think about right now is your soulmate.

You really wished you listened to Hiyyih last night.

Now here you are running late to your first subject, no coffee, hair was all over the place and barely a tint on your lips. You actually don’t know why you were running even though you knew you already missed your class, maybe it was just sudden adrenaline.

As you were fixing your bag as you fast walked into the hallways, you did not notice the blonde guy who was also not looking where he was going. Papers were everywhere, scrambling to your feet as you quickly picked up the papers that went flying, you had no time to get angry or to even see who the hell bumped into you.

Kai felt bad that he wasn’t looking where he was going, he started picking up the papers that was on the ground. A particular paper caught his attention, “Soulmates? Do you think they are real?” He finally looked at you and his eyes widened. He finally found you again, the person from the café.

“I used to love the idea of it.” You chuckled as you grabbed the paper only for you to be in shock. It was the guy from the café, and the two of you just stared at each other like you were in your own world.

Kai felt a ticklish feeling on his wrist that was bothering him. He brought his wrist up only for him to be more shocked.

I used to love the idea of it.

You. You were his soulmate, after all these years he thought he never had one. He finally found you.

You looked at his wrist and saw your words on it. Him. He was your soulmate, you couldn’t believe it. You raised your wrist to show him yours. He saw his lyrics on your wrist.

“I finally found you. Hi I’m Kai” He smiled.

Why am I here? You thought.

It was snowing and your best friend, Kai said you needed to have some fun and not be a couch potato all day, so here you were outside your best friend’s dorm.

You knew Kai just wanted someone to accompany him and you bet Taehyun declined his offer on making an army of snow ducks, but hey Kai is an amazing best friend you knew you would have an amazing time.

You were so wrong.

After making an army of snow ducks, the two of you started a snowball fight to see who was the strongest.

Why do I keep on missing?

“KAI THIS IS UNFAIR!” You screamed as you throw a snowball that hit a window, you missed again.

“JUST ADMIT DEFEAT YN!” Kai shouted back.

“If you guys won’t stop, I swear I’ll end you two.” Taehyun said who was outside the window you threw a snowball at.

Little did you know Taehyun’s window was open and it didn’t have a screen.

Beomgyu could not believe this.

It was just one peaceful morning, until he had to leave for work. You were clinging on his leg asking him not to go. He was being tempted by your sweet pleading eyes and clinginess making it harder for him to refuse.

“Babe I need to go to work” Beomgyu said as you continued to whine.

“What am I supposed to do while you’re gone?” You cried.

“What do you usually do when I’m gone?” He asked trying to shake you off his leg.

“Wait for you to come back” You pouted.

warning: a bit siggestive | a bit of spoiler if you haven’t watched Frozen II

note: I swear I didn’t cry while watching frozen II ಠ‿ಥ

“Why can’t we watch Spiderman instead?” Yeonjun whined as you proceed to put Frozen II on the TV. “Because it’s my turn to choose” You ignored your boyfriend’s whining. Movie nights were something Yeonjun always anticipated at the end of his busy week, not only does he get to do his hobby but he gets to spend time with his lover.

“How about we watch Fifty Shades of Grey instead” Yeonjun suggested as he wiggled his eyebrows. “I know your antics Sir Daniel, but I made up a choice and we are watching Frozen. Now sit your grumpy butt on the couch and we cuddle” Yeonjun gave up and made his way to the couch as you finished setting up the TV and grabbed some popcorn. “Fine, but if I don’t like it we are watching Fifty Shades of Grey.” He puffed and opened his arms to engulf you in a cuddle “We are not” You said as you set down the bowl of popcorn on the table and joined Yeonjun.

“Some things never change like the feel of your hand in mine” You faced your boyfriend as you accompanied Anna in singing and smiled at him “Some things stay the same like how we get along just fine” You continued as you urge him to sing with you.

Yeonjun had the biggest smile on his face as he hummed the tune of the song. Seeing this childish side of you felt very warm to him. Disney movies was something he knew that you really enjoyed and if watching Frozen II gets you this excited maybe it wouldn’t be so bad.

“This isn’t bad” He thought as you continued to sing along to the rest of the song snuggled in his arms.

Yeonjun could not believe it, but he got so intrigued with the movie which he found himself tearing up as Elsa finally discovered what she is truly meant for. “Show yourself, step into the power. Throw yourself into something new” As Elsa sang with so much emotion as she teared up, by now Yeonjun was crying. You heard soft sniffles and to your confusion, you turned around and saw your boyfriend crying.

“And to think that you wanted to watch Fifty Shades of Grey more than this” You teased him. “Shut up, just look at Elsa. She finally found her purpose” Yeonjun pouted as a tear fell down his eye. You couldn’t help but look at him in awe. You pecked his lips and wiped his tears.

“Me too.” You smiled.

“I love you.” Anna cried as Olaf disappeared.

You started crying as you buried you face on your boyfriend’s chest, “Olaf” you croaked softly as you cried. Yeonjun started caressing your hair and wiped your tears away. People might’ve cringed at the sight of you two being this cute, but who cares? Right now it was just the two of you.

“I love you yn” As Yeonjun kissed the top of your head.

The movie ended, bowl empty, and the both of you fast asleep. Yeonjun made it a mental note to watch Spiderman next movie night.
