Update to the True Believer Special Edition
Our True Believer Special Edition was just updated!  This is our DLC you can pick up on Steam that includes our soundtrack and a number of Behind the Scenes videos.  We've just expanded it with two new videos.
These new clips were ones we had in the vault that we thought people would really enjoy checking out - we've edited them and synced them up with the best sound.  The videos are live in studio recordings of songs by our cult leaders and voice actors extraordinaire Ellen McLain and John Patrick Lowrie. One of the new videos features Ellen doing a spirited alternate take on that ultimate cult tune "The Working Song," a fan favorite. In the second new video, John does a perfect one-take performance of "Flee As a Bird" which he sings while simultaneously finger picking his guitar.  He’s really good at doing both at the same time.   If you already purchased the True Believer edition, you will automatically get these files added to your collection in your Steam files location. And if you haven't become a True Believer yet, now's a perfect time to pick it up, because it's on sale for another day!
Version 1.42 Now Live
We've just published our version 1.42 to Steam and all platforms which adds some more functionality and polishes our "Notes" feature that we introduced in v1.4. To recap, our last update v1.4 added a Notes menu item, letting players review all of the documents they have unlocked in their many journeys through Freedom Town, letting you review notes you have collected over multiple playthroughs. We like how this showcases all the different narrative pieces our writers and artists came up with for the game's collectable documents, and lets you read them in the calm between playthroughs. Read more about the feature in our last update: https://churchinthedarkness.tumblr.com/post/635972408134795264/weve-just-rolled-out-our-new-version-14
This 1.42 version adds a "Total Collected" counter in the top left of the screen so you can track your progress in collecting all the many documents you might find in Freedom Town. V1.42 also improves the interface on the menu, adds Japanese translation to the new screen, and fixes some other UI and polish items.
The Story of All of Us
And all of that is on sale right now on Steam, a perfect reason to pick up the DLC if you haven’t yet.  Or the whole game if you’ve been inexplicably holding out until now.  Or if you’ve already got the game, now’s a good time to return to us.  Get back into the jungle and use our new “Notes” feature to see if you can locate all the journals, newspaper clippings, inter-cult memos, stained Polaroids, postcards, and cries for help that are tucked away in some footlocker in Freedom Town... The story they tell is the story of all of us.

We've just rolled out our new version 1.4, featuring our note & document tracker, available via the Notes entry on the main menu. UPDATE:  This latest version is now live on all platforms.
This new feature tracks all the notes & documents you find in your playthroughs of the game and lets you read or re-read them whenever you want.  As you travel through Freedom Town, in desks, trunks, and other searchable spots you'll collect documents that you can read in-game. But some people have mentioned reading them during gameplay can be stressful given how intense the game can be. Plus, since not every document is in every playthrough, it was previously impossible to read all the notes in one place. So we made the new "Notes" menu. We love this feature because now you can explore the full narrative of the game across multiple playthroughs, and you can read the notes not during stressful gameplay but instead from the calm between games. Our writers and artists put a bunch of work into these, and we wanted to shine an extra spotlight on them through this new menu. You can even explore how these documents and the story change between different versions of the cult, because we show you all the different versions of a specific document you might find in different playthroughs/scenarios. You can also see what notes you haven't found yet, giving you a good reason to venture back into the jungle again and see if you can find what you're missing. Want to know how to find one missing from your collection? Keep searching those desks, the bulletin boards, and also the red chests in the chapels. The more you search in a single play-through, the more obscure the documents you will start to find... And remember, you can never find them all in a single playthrough.  So for the completionist, exploring the different versions of the cult is key.   We're looking forward to seeing who will be first of our players to collect all the notes. We should remind you that we have only been tracking your Notes/Document collection since our 1.3 patch earlier this year, so if you're a long time player not everything you've found will be displayed. Good reason to go hunting in Freedom Town for those missing documents.
We Are On Sale!
In celebration of our new v1.4 release (and because it's that time of year) find us on sale with generous discounts at:
Nintendo Cyber Deals Sale
Steam Autumn Sale
GOG Black Friday Sale
And remember, a 1970s cult group in the jungle with charismatic leaders who encourage you to reject the evils of your home country makes a great gift.

Preachers Isaac & Rebecca have always wanted to spread their message through their music - so our soundtrack is coming out on vinyl from our good friends at Minimum Records.  And it's a two-disc, 1970s-style gatefold!  It features all new artwork to make it look as authentic to the period and the Collective Justice Mission as possible.  This includes both the 10 songs recorded by Isaac and Rebecca (aka our actors John Patrick Lowrie and Ellen McLain) as well as 18 pieces of music from our in-game soundtrack.
You can read more about it at one of these handy pre-order links:
• Pre-order (UK/EU/World) https://bit.ly/3jov8GE
• Pre-order (US) https://bit.ly/34ImLBI
Oh and you may want to hear from our cult leaders Ellen McLain and John Patrick Lowrie who have a message to share with you about brainwashing and the soundtrack and how the two may be related.

Game Version 1.3 + True Believer DLC Update Are Live
Our latest updates to the game include:
Fixes to some bugs in the inventory when using mouse control which sometimes resulted in lost items, or using items at the wrong time.
Fixes to allow Steam controllers to work correctly, as well as some more rare cases where Xbox controllers would have issues (on PC only).
Some infrastructure that sets up our NEXT patch. We've introduced a new system that tracks and saves what you collect in each game playthrough, and we're working on a cool way to display that in game, both so you can review it when you're not in the middle of a difficult infiltration but also to help you track how much of the game you've uncovered.
If you purchased the True Believer edition on either Steam or Itch, we’ve also got an update for you - we’ve added a recently edited video for our cult leaders John Patrick Lowrie and Ellen McLain singing "Where We'll Never Grow Old” to the Behind the Scenes footage section - if you have the DLC installed, you 'll get it automatically.   We're hoping to do a few more updates to the True Believer Edition this year.
On Sale Right Now!
And now's a great time to pick up the game with all these updates, as the game is currently up for 60% off at some of your favorite PC shops:
The Church in the Darkness on Steam
The Church in the Darkness on GOG
Or now's a good time to pick up the
True Believer Special Edition on Steam
because it's 60% off too!  Remember it includes that digital soundtrack and a whole pack of Behind the Scenes footage.

Good day to talk cults?
Three streams we did for LudoNarraCon 2020 are now up on YouTube.
First we have our energetic actor Arif S. Kinchen along with our director Richard Rouse.  They talk Arif's work on the game, find secret parts of the cult, hunt for Alex, run away a lot, & even talk The Suffering.  So check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUmG_VV0zNs
Next Richard is joined by Brock Wilbur:  journalist, knower of cults, and as it happens a big fan of our game.  Brock asks questions about why the game is like it is, while we discuss other cults they find fascinating and just how real the game is. Check them out over here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6mT2UFGOaE
And you can also catch Richard not talking cults directly, but rather on a panel featuring several of the guest writers for our game.  Join him with the esteemed Steve Meretzky, Brenda Romero, Brian Moriarty, and Clara Ferandez-Vara as they talk the evolution of game narrative, as the discussion focuses on games have tackled serious subject matter over the years.

This weekend, April 24th-27th, is the online convention dedicated to fascinating narrative games, LudoNarraCon, and we'll be participating in a number of ways we think you'll like.  And best of all, LudoNarraCon is 100% free to attend.
For the duration of LudoNarraCon, you can pick up the game for 50% off on Steam.  We're also half off on Xbox as part of their Un-Halloween Horror Sale through the weekend.
Game Streams & Panels
As part of LudoNarraCon, we'll be doing two streams hosted on our Store page which will loop all weekend, showing off some advice and tips players may not know about.  And we welcome two very special guests.
First up we have Arif S. Kinchen, the voice actor who plays Alex, Charles and Scooter in the game.  Or you may know him as Miles from The Suffering: Ties that Bind, or as Pierce Washington in the Saint's Row games.
Next up we have Brock Wilbur: journalist, knower of cults, and as it happens a big fan of our game.  He will be on to talk about the game and ask me some questions about why the game is like it is, while we discuss other cults they find fascinating.
To check out either of those streams, head over here:  https://store.steampowered.com/app/339830/The_Church_in_the_Darkness/
Also, as part of LudoNarraCon you can catch The Evolution of Game Narrative panel. This is moderated by our director Richard and features three of the guest writers from the game: Steve Meretzky, Brian Moriarty, and Brenda Romero, along with narrative design specialist and scholar Clara Fernandez-Vara. To find that, go to the LudoNarraCon home page and click on the loop of Friday's talks:  https://store.steampowered.com/sale/ludonarracon
What about Giveaways?
Even though LudoNarraCon is an online convention, we still wanted to hand out some cult themed items to attendees.  So we've got revolutionary pins, recruitment brochures, and a few Isaac/Rebecca Walker devotional cards signed by Ellen McLain and john Patrick Lowrie...  If you'd like to be entered in our random drawing to receive some convention swag in the mail, please fill out this form to give us your mailing info:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe6oTFTe9sP1kd4dr3szByyXEc423gnWRQYTwxMnl7m-rYwLw/viewform
