Wash being the 'goofball' rookie in pfl is, yes, in part him being genuinely kind of a goofy guy, and when he feels secure to an extent, he lets some of his hardened walls fall down. And I genuinely think his sense of humor is silly and goofy (but self aware-- part of the joke is that he KNOWS he's being a dork/cringe, it's partially a performance, Wash likes to perform never forget), so it's not really that he's putting a front on but--

It's also strategic. He's *not* a rookie, but the others perceive him that way bc of PFL elitism (like the man was a corporal who has some pretty intense combat experience....) and it comes across like wash let's them perceive him that way. He acts gullible (and is sometimes, but anyone who has BEEN a gullible person will tell you, in their jaded later years, how easy it is to weaponize the perception of gullibility) to get information. People underestimate wash. His entire fighting style is representative of this-- he's a jack of all trades. He flies under the radar. He doesn't go in with pomp and circumstance, he gets the job done and you look around and realize it's been done. He's good at hiding, at getting your attention elsewhere, at showing up when you don't expect it because you weren't paying attention.

Let people believe that all you are is the gullible, naive rookie, and they're going to be a hell of a lot surprised when you surpase them on the leader board. Wash being just subtly conniving and sketch is such an interesting undernote to his dealings in pfl. And the added bonus to this is, in pfl at least, Wash isn't having to fly under the radar by surpressing personality facets, but highlighting them-- while it's naive, there's a level of earnestness in wash that he doesn't get to indulge very often that he had the ability to indulge in pfl. Versus season 8 wash who very clearly is surpressing personality facets at every turn in order to justify his actions, and you can see how exhausting/agonizing it is. He can do it, sure, Wash can Play Most Any Part, but his best performances are when there's truth Imbedded in them that he can just Amp up. I love you chameleon boy ❣️

It's almost time for the final season of RVB... so here are some of my pictures of the man himself, Lavernius Tucker! The first rule of designing RVB faces; Tucker is the prettiest~

(first picture is in fact my first attempt at figuring out face designs for the characters as they listen to a good-bye message from Epsilon; Tucker is getting pretty chocked-up, trying to hold back some sobs, but unable to keep himself from crying, done in MS Paint. Next are two versions of Tucker, first done as traditional artwork on paper with a mix of different pens and colored pencils, the second one given some touch-ups with digital art, adding more shine and shadows. After that is my most recent picture of Tucker, done in MS Paint with really dynamic and solid lines. The first version is him in his signature colors, wearing an under-suit and holding his glowing sword, the next has a solid out-line for the shapes of the Meta Armor, his face now visible with his skin-tone, and finally a version with a soft blend of multiple colors, similar to the AI Fragments, and like the sword as well. Then there is my MS Paint design I made for myself to use as ref, and the traditional pin-up illustration that also had some digital touch-ups for the colors. Finally, my MS Paint illustration that shows Tucker floating in a shimmering swimming pool, or possible a glowing pool of cosmic energy, one with very saturated colors, the other with a softer edit)

completely enamoured with the current restoration windup vibe of a giant sleepover in the community center where we’re all taking turns telling jokes and stories and throwing memes up on the projector continually upping the ante on razing each others’ emotions to the ground and we’re all screaming and giggling and falling over dramatically kicking rolling around covering our faces going “omg noooOOOOOoooo!!!” in anguish and then we pop back up with an Idea and a 😼😈 going “okay my turn HOW ABOUT -“
