loneliness
Loneliness is the feeling of having no one or nothing. It’s not having anyone to give you motivation or have your back. An example is in the Seafarer where the writer has nothing but the waves.
I think some other landscapes that evoke a feeling of loneliness and emptiness for one is a large, flat dusty plain. Like in the pirates of the Caribbean movie when Jack Sparrow gets eaten by the kraken and is sent to some type of purgatory. This place is nothing but an empty, endless dry desert where jack has nothing and no one but himself and the ship he was eaten with. This place is so pointless that he even starts to see copies of himself and acts as if it’s normal and it’s just his crew. Another landscape I think evokes these feelings is a room. Something small with no windows or designs on the walls just a straight color like tan or something. It also has to have no furniture, just an empty room. I think this would have the greatest affect on someone’s feelings because it makes you feel like that’s the whole world, just that room nothing else. It makes you forget what’s around you. That’s why integration rooms are always boring, bland and small, it dulls our senses, makes us feel like everything is pointless so that they can get information. Another would be an abandoned city, something post apocalyptic. Just towering skyscrapers, dead cars in the road with no one inside, weeds and plant life reclaiming the roads and buildings, etc. Seeing all the abandoned structures would surely cause anyone to question themselves and feel very lonely and isolated. Last place I can think of is space. Just floating out in an endless void with nothing but dots of light surrounding you. That sounds like a horrible way to live. Hope no one reads this.
