The thing I love most about Willow is that it’s a fun, light-hearted show that’s an homage to the original movie and others 80s fantasy films like the Princess Bride and Labyrinth – but also subverts well-worn tropes and celebrates diversity to create something unique in a mainstream series. Like:

The quest launches to save a prince, not a princess.

Elora, initially in love with kidnapped Prince Airk, meets Graydon, another prince who is a POC and, based on what we’ve seen, everything Airk is not. I don’t really het ship, but the show seems to be leaning toward a Graylora “end game” and, if so, I’d love that for them.

The representation in this show is fantastic. Heroic roles traditionally reserved for men – most typically white men – are played by an actor with dwarfism, a British-Indian actor, an American-Guatemalan actor, and two mixed-race women. Not a stretch to say this is why some out there (we all know who) decry the show as “too woke.” But to me it’s one of the show’s many strengths. 

We’ve had many a narrative about a “chosen one.” But how often is the chosen one: 1) a woman and 2) whose “protector” is another woman, let alone a gay one. Amazing.

On that note, how refreshing is it to see such a layered relationship between Elora and Kit. There’s the push and pull of destiny and duty, and resentment and jealousy from family dynamics. But in the end it evolves into grudging respect and sisterhood. It’s the kind of dynamic normally reserved for two men in these types of genre shows. 

And Jade. My precious Jade. A woman knight of color protecting her princess is everything I’ve ever wanted in life. Tanthamore is Lancelot and Guinevere level romance – but with lesbians. Come on. I cannot say enough about them. 

I’m sure there are more examples, but this is just off the top of my head.

Slightly more serious post with some of the most important tanthamore moments. Don't worry you'll find idiotic comments too because 'sarcastic bitch' is my middle name.

Bored (when someone tells me to sit like a lady I'm gonna show them this gif) (kit can't even sit straight lmao)

Kit: hurt

Jade: regret (when you hurt bae so you put on the puppy face to make her forgive you... Unfortunately for you, unsuccessfully)

Disgusted by the hetero activity in the room (really? right in front of my salad?)

Trust I think this scene is SO IMPORTANT in their relationship and we haven't talked enough about it, so I'm gonna do it now. In this scene Kit expected Jade to do what her mother had told her to (stop Kit when she pushes too far) and she looked almost resigned, she believes that the last decision is her mother's and not hers (as always). But Jade doesn't do that, she tells her that kit is gonna choose for herself when it's time to stop, she trust that she will make the right decision, she willingly disobey an order from the queen to give Kit the freedom of her choices for once in her life. In this gif we can't see it but shortly after Jade tells her that, Kit stops and realize what Jade has given her and the choice SHE makes of jumping off a cliff I strongly believe she made it only because she had Jade's trust and support.

Judgy (they're so in sync it's almost scary, they're even doing the same thing with their hands and are SITTING IN THE EXACT SAME POSITION WTF)(when you spend too much time with a person that you became one thing)

Trust (pt.2) other important scene: Jade has trust in Kit even if she doesn't think she's worthy of it. There are a lot of posts that say that the cuirass is activated not only if it senses you're worthy but also if the Lux Arcana is inserted by someone who loves you and trust you and i totally agree with this theory. Once again Jade is giving Kit power just simply thanks to her trust and love.

Protective (we love a princess that protects her knight, also that armor is HUGE in her little body, she's ridiculous and i love it)

Protective pt.2 (she fucking yeeted her in the air like if she's done it millions of times before and this was like “oh shit, here we go again“)

Fear (already talked about this in kit's post) Jade is totally terrified because she has already understood what kit wanted to do (gf psychic abilities activated) but even if she CAN stop her physically or say something she doesn't because, once again, she's trusting her (against every single atom of her body that doesn't want to risk loosing Kit). And Kit... oh man...Kit's last look to Jade gets me every time, it's a silent "thank you", a silent "I love you", a silent "we'll see each other again"...

Fear (pt.2) another totally not emotionally heavy scene *said in a totally unironical way*. This time the last look is Jade's, and this time is a silent "I love you, I'm sorry" because, this time, they don't think they'll see each other again. And Kit doesn't stay still, but launches herself with all her strength to get to Jade, and doesn't stay silent but screams and pray them to stop. THESE GAYS ARE TRYING TO MURDER ME
