It’s really wild to me to hear the way my mom talks about and goes about raising children now that she’s pretty much taking over custodial responsibilities for her oldest grandchild.
Baby girl’s mom was a teen mother and had her just before she graduated. She’s constantly worried about my niece being sexually active and has gone so far as to put her on birth control. They’d fight when she would post twerking videos or anything of a sexual nature.
My mom’s ENTIRE rhetoric is “teens will be sexually active and there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s completely natural, it’s human nature at its most basic level. We just want to make sure she’s protected and safe.” Furthermore she REQUIRED my niece to have a password on her phone (even before it was the iPhone standard) and doesn’t have the code herself.
Meanwhile, we literally would be punished and have our phones taken away if she found out we had a passcode on our phone. She would frequently go though them & confiscate them for virtually no reason.
This is literally the same mom who grounded, confiscated my phone, and SENT ME TO STAY WITH MY DAD for a whole week because she went through my text messages and saw me telling my boyfriend of a whole year that I wanted to put my thighs on his shoulders. I was abstinent and stayed that way till college, but wanted to explore oral sex with my long-time boyfriend as a high school senior. And she literally demonized me for it. She did everything but call me a slut.
Idk it’s just really weird to me. I know grandparents switch up their parenting styles from when they were raising their children to their grandchildren - I know that’s very common. But to listen to her tell blatant lies like “I’ve never held that kinda stuff against my children, I’ve never had that attitude about sex, its as natural as drinking water” like girl please shut the hell up.
