The thing is, until you get past the mindset of "justice=punishment" you will never be able to create lasting change. We have actual proof that punitive justice creates more crime and makes criminals more violent. We have actual proof that rehabilitation reduces crime and recidivism. But some of y'all are so stuck on this idea that the wrongdoer must be punished for justice to be done that you will choose sating your need for revenge over actually moving toward a better world every time. And that's sad!

You know,, if the story was told from Sasuke's point of view literally nobody would actually expect or want him to return to the village. And like, I get why it's a touchy thing for a lot of Naruto fans. The circumstances for Sasuke's departure and the entire Valley of the End fight were upsetting. Bad time all around, yes, but that doesn't mean leaving Konoha was the wrong choice for Sasuke to make. Avenging the clan was like the only thing keeping him alive at that point, so expecting Sasuke to just sit back and let the Curse Mark slowly kill him without having achieved any sort of justice for his family is ludicrous actually. But besides that, learning the truth about the Uchiha's genocide is like the ultimate determinant that Sasuke has no obligation to the village whatsoever. Like at some point, no matter how much you dislike or resent him as a character, you have to realise that everything Konoha did to Sasuke and the rest of his family was absolutely despicable and he genuinely does not owe that place anything.

Thinking about chapter #353, just a little before Sasuke vs Itachi happens, and how Itachi acts. It might not be anything special, but I do find it sad.
Kisame fought Rōshi and took him down. And after Itachi goes "You need to handle the elderly with care" Kisame kind of mocks him.
Was he being genuine and was the remark because Itachi allowed himself to be a little bit himself in Kisame's presence? Other than just participating in the Akatsuki's extracting the tailed beasts from their jinchuriki rituals Itachi isn't shown to do much for them. He isn't evil. He does feel empathy. But knowing him, he could be sarcastic as well. But it doesn't look like he's being sarcastic because he has no purpose of doing so.
Anyway.
They leave and walk for a little bit.
Then Kisame says he's a little tired. It's probably a general statement because he's talking about the hunts over all. But Kisame and Itachi haven't really done anything else other than capturing the Four Tails. Still, they take a break from walking.
Kisame's holding a dying man on his shoulders after battling him and complaining about how hard it was to defeat him. And he still stands. Guess who needs to sit down because the boy is so tired?
Him. (so pretty though).
Did Kisame stop because he himself was tired or did he just take a break it's very close to Itachi's death, and he wouldn't be in a good condition right now. Who knew how much medicines he took so he could stand and accompany Kisame on their mission? Kisame offered to fight Rōshi because Itachi was already so weak and close to dying. He wouldn't have survived the battle against a jinchuriki and he needed to "preserve" himself to die at his brother's hands.
When we see him looking calm on the surface there's so much going on inside of him. The way he talks Kisame out of capturing Naruto or even thinking about it because he's hoping that day would never come. He learns about Sasuke killing Orochimaru after this. Did he ever panic that he couldn't really do it anymore and he literally prayed to some gods that Sasuke came and killed him because pain was too intense at times? What did he really look like when he was weak, vulnerable, and human? How did he ever hide all this from Kisame because I don't think Kisame ever knew what the whole deal with Itachi was. I need answers.

Skimming through some old Naruto chapters rn. Specifically the Tenchi Bridge arc and I am fairly certain Sasuke was just shitting with Orochimaru the entire time.
"Letting you live was absolutely strategic in nature."
"I'd totally give Orochimaru my body."
"Ofc I can use Kirin without rain clouds wdym?"

for @obito-week 2024! prompt: clan customs
I thought: what if there was this yearly ceremony at the Uchiha Naka Shrine where all the perfect little Uchiha children perform some kind of traditional dance with fans and pretty glowing paper lanterns in front of proud parents and elders and what if Obito really fucked it up despite practicing really, really hard (for about two hours the night before because he totally forgot about it despite being reminded repeatedly because he wasn't listening because he had more important things to do damnit!! >__<)
