Friendly reminder that Edwin didn’t doubt for a second that the Charles in hell was actually him.
I like to think it’s because hell is meant to be torture and Charles has only ever made Edwin feel happy. To him Charles is his light and the best thing to happen to him. Edwin doesn’t think hell would ever be able to understand all the good that is Charles Rowland enough to even attempt to mimic him.

And if I were to say Edwin and Charles were like River Song and the Doctor, would I be wrong???
Like River’s “He’s certainly not in love enough to find himself standing [in danger] with me” is very Edwin to me. And of course, like the Doctor, Charles is there for Edwin and is surprised he’d ever doubt that.

Not to be overly emotional about this but if you pause the night nurse beurocratic paperwork scenes, you'll find that the file is labeled "PAYNE/ROWLAND".

Going to need someone to write a long, slowburn six of crows au for dead boy detectives with Charles as Jesper and Edwin as Wylan, like I am BEGGING.

Desperately need Zac and Murph to have another Lapin and Theo dynamic soon bc we were truly robbed of those two. Or actually I will also take another Ricky and Cody situation.
Idk something about those two being antagonistic and awkward towards each other scratches my brain in the best way.

Dead Boy Detectives is honestly really fucking good and you guys need to watch it. It's queer, yeah, but most importantly it's camp as hell. I'm talking weird, spooky, Halloween-type vibes. Witches who walk around with spider necklaces and most of their tits exposed. Insane cat gods. Cartoonishly large magnifying glasses. A spider made of baby heads. A man who used to be a walrus. Genuinely we are so fucking back with goofy insane media that makes you bite at the bars of your enclosure.

It’s kind of crazy how Dead Boy Detectives is a show/story where one of the driving forces is two main characters’ absolute devotion to staying together no matter what. The very idea of ever getting separated is something that Charles and Edwin fear above all else, and one of the biggest threats to them is anything that could split them apart. Like. There’s something so absolutely moving about that. These two are so devoted to each other that they’d do anything to stay together, whether that’s run from Death or even go to Hell, as long as they’re together. And that’s really fucking sweet.

Does it ever hit you that for Charles Rowland, death was kinder than life? That he never felt something kind until the night he died? And that when he did finally die, when the peaceful, kind glow of Death arrived, Charles sacrificed Heaven for the boy who had crawled out of Hell, the boy who was the first person to be kind to him? Do you ever want to chew some drywall?

I saw the tv glow is crazy bc it’s a movie that genuinely makes you watch how your life could fall apart. Makes you watch how heavily repression can affect your life and how dangerous and sad it can be. But at the same time it’s like “hey, if you’re still alive there is still time, so keep going.”
I’ve genuinely never watched a movie that has given me so much sadness, but let’s me find a sense of hope, no matter how bittersweet, within that devastation.
