People think feminism means that there’s a group of women somewhere that want to take trousers with pockets away from men and give them to women, and give men trousers with fake pockets, while in reality feminism is the general idea that everyone should have trousers with pockets, because pockets are awesome.

OK. So Children’s Place were selling Guardians of the Galaxy t-shirts for boys… and left Gamora out of the ugly-ass t-shirt design because she’s a female character and this “shirt in particular is a boy’s shirt.”
THIS. THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS, PEOPLE.

How come a girl can wear guys clothes and look cute or wear a suit and look hot, but when a guy wears a dress or a skirt it’s weird?

CultureHISTORY: The Ferguson Protests - #NMOS14
In light of Mike Brown’s murder, and the police occupation of Ferguson, something extraordinary is happening. With the help of #BlackTwitter, social media, the spotlight of national attention and the impassioned citizens of Ferguson, a protest movement is taking shape and it is important to bear witness.
First there was the #IfTheyGunnedMeDown thread which was reported in the NY Times & LA Times, the #DontShoot thread of photos (some above), and tomorrow a National Moment of Silence across the country for the victims of police brutality.
Thursday, August 14th – #NMOS14 - 4:00P (PT) / 6:00P (CT) / 7:00P (ET). Check cities/location here.
The issue of police brutality against communities of color is a decades-old problem. But with new technology, everyone has access to more information and these cases are getting more attention. Plus, in the last four weeks, four unarmed black men have been killed by policemen across the country. Along with Mike Brown in St. Louis, Eric Garner in New York, John Crawford in Dayton, OH and Ezell Ford in L.A. Yes, it’s time for a movement.

Here’s a general rule. When an insult is directed at a woman, consider how it would have sounded directed at a man. If the result is ridiculous, then it’s probably sexist.
came across this great comment on an article Ruby Tandoh (Great British Bake Off Runner Up) wrote for The Guardian (via aconits)
this has been my rule of thumb for years

To tell the truth, I’ve been spending lots of the last month without clothes on in my own flat, because it’s been hotter than the great outdoors due to poor ventilation. I was literally suffocating in there, as was 30’C inside and I couldn’t function. It’s one of the reasons I came away to Essex because I couldn’t breathe in there, let alone work on my films.
My house above is uncomfortably hot at the moment (though not as intense!) We can’t afford luxury/AC’s or blare the fans all day.
My Dad and brother are parading round in their shorts alone and yet, when I do the same, I’m given looks and told:
"Think of the neighbours!", "there are young children across the road!", "it’s rude, Rebecca", "Becks, come on".
Of course my family get on well, so I’ve won a few battles! But this mentality - “cover, as you’re a woman!”, disgusts me. I truly do not understand our society.
My Dad’s chest is large enough to wear a bra, he has nipples just like mine! He along with all the men on this planet can strip off to the bare minimum and be comfortable in this intense weather. Furthermore, he can leave the house! This is our house. If they can all strip off in the heat, then so can I. I may be jailed for leaving the house in the dress I desire but I have this building to exercise my freedom.
In NY, I could go topless sunbathing with that book group, in the middle of Central Park - I could walk down the streets of NY and although people would stare - it would be legal. That should be the same here too.
Bra’s make me so uncomfortable, I’m fed up wearing them. I can’t stand all this fancy (un-sexy) lace. My chest is changing but I don’t care, in time they’ll sag anyway! Might as well get used to it! :D. I only live once and I hate having this cage around me all the time. Men don’t have to wear these torture devices! :(. I cannot see why women have to wear two layers in modern society to be accepted and treated as polite/respectful.
It disgusts me when I’m surrounded by topless men in public, not because I’m ashamed of their bodies, but because men don’t seem to appreciate how infuriating it is for us! The inequality drives me nuts.
I believe in nipple equality. If men can flash the world, then why can’t we? Breasts are not just sexual organs for men’s pleasure, they are part of the body, which for periods of our life, have other natural purposes, such as breast feeding. We’re even forbidden to breast feed our children in public as it’s traumatising for society! We have to breast feed in loos and bushes! :(.
A topless man is ignored mostly or at absolutely best: “hot”.
A topless woman is: “attention seeking/a sex object”.
There is so much on this topic I wish to say and I doubt what I have written will be enough to express what I’m feeling right now.
The de-sexualisation of breasts NEEDS to happen.
(Whats even sadder, is that when I bring up this discussion with friends or in comments, half the comments are sexual jokes. People just can’t take this topic seriously and degrade me further.)
