if there's one thing we can learn from this booping experience it's that we need to give people notes and interact with them for tumblr to be fun and thriving

no you know what I'm going to scream about the stuff I talked about in the tags of this post publicly
I'm tired of the well-meaning "don't feel bad if your work only gets 20 notes your genius is what counts and do it for you!" bullshit. I've had a good handful of friends who have straight up DEACTIVATED in recent months because their work was not getting reblogged AT ALL. No, it wasn't from lack of not being well-liked, no it wasn't from lack of trying to make sure it was getting out there to the people they knew would engage with it. It was because no matter how much they were praised privately for their work, when push came to shove, absolutely NOBODY reblogged it and gave it the audience that it was due, and I'm tired of people shoving the "unsung genius" narrative as an excuse for it. Nothing excuses that. And the boop event really proved that.
because I know given the opportunity, indiscriminately pressing a button (sometimes 10 thousand times, as I did) is not beyond this website's capability. y'all loved doing that. and look at what it wrought. nothing but love and affection and happiness. just from a couple of quick clicks of a little paw button. sure. nobody knew who you booped but the other person (which is how likes used to work on this website, btw). there was an element of anonymity to it. but that is kind of the core of this website that no other social media platform still has: the ability to be anonymous. and hyper-curating a blog on here like you might on twitter or instagram to project an image is simply not viable. and hey. you wanna know a secret: literally nobody cares what you post or whether it goes with the "theme" of your blog or not. yeah. I know. CRAZY concept in this day and age. but literally. I myself have reblogged things that have had nothing to do with whatever I am currently fixated by and you know what happened to my follower count? not a damn thing. in fact, I actively try to reblog things specifically BECAUSE it's my friends who made them (even though I'm not always good at KEEPING UP WITH HOW MUCH THEY POST @prismatica-the-strange will NEVER GO UNRECOGNIZED by me).
And you know what fucking sucks? I have to deal with this too. surprise right? you ever wonder why I reblog fics or art I post like 20 times the day that I post them? do you ever wonder why I ask about tag lists and beg for asks all the time? IT'S BECAUSE EVEN I GET LIKE. 5 LIKES ON THE THINGS I POST. AND THE REST OF THE REBLOGS ARE MINE SO I CAN MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO SEE WHAT I MAKE GET TO SEE IT. and I say that knowing that I'm certainly not an unpopular blog, or an unpopular writer. I know that people love the stories that I create. Hell, half of the people that I've talked to about lady terror have told me that they consider her to be canon (AND EVEN SOME!! THOUGHT SHE WAS!!! WITHOUT EVEN HAVING WATCHED THE SHOW! WHICH IS STILL SO SO WILD TO ME!!!) But especially in the last 4 years (which really dates this phenomenon), my posts, no matter how well received they've been amongst people I've talked to about them directly, I still go into the notes and at least half (often more than half) are MY reblogs to make sure people saw what I posted. and it happens every single time, and I can't tell you how much it crushes me considering that it used to be that I would be able to post it only once, and people would reblog it sometimes even HUNDREDS of times.
It's not about popularity. it never has been. it's not about anxiety. or shifting website cultures. even if you lurk, the simple fact is, that if you want people to keep making what you love. you have to reblog. your theme won't suffer because you reblogged a fanfiction that you really admire. your posting won't be ruined because you reblogged some fanart from someone in a different fandom. really. I promise. and if people do unfollow you for that? who needs em. followers come and go but you should NEVER have to cater to them. on this website it has ALWAYS been the other way around. lean into it. make it yours. put stuff you ACTUALLY WANT to be seen and that you love and appreciate on your blog. no matter how old it is, how new it is, no matter how niche or off-theme it is.
so please. if you really want to show your appreciation for someone's work? you reblog. it's really as easy as that. check the tags. add some when you reblog if you like. but please for the love of god reblog. it's as easy as booping and even more rewarding for the people who you reblog from. if you want to let someone know that their work is genius and appreciate it? show it. reblog. then DM them if you're too nervous to say what you want to say but not in a public forum. but for christ's sake. REBLOG.

Indefinite Hiatus
Hey, all! Sorry to do this, but yeeeeep, still no movement on the account borking. As such, I've decided to go on hiatus for the time being. If you're interested in following progress on TNS or just keeping in touch, you'll be able to find me at the following:
Active Accounts:
Public Discord (Hosts daily snippets, chatter, word sprints, VCs, and more. Also the only place where alpha reader calls are posted. Members get first dibs on beta reader calls as well. This invite will not expire.)
Bluesky (Where I'm most active, alongside Twitter. Hosts snippets, updates, and random talk, including media chatter.)
Twitter (Hosts pitch event posts and crossposts of updates and snippets. Will also feature industry talk, eventually.)
Instagram (Currently hosts photos/videos of writing adventures. Will soon also host snippets and other writing things.)
Cohost (Least active. Not sure what I'll do with this one, tbh. Might host longer personal posts.)
Ko-Fi (Future home of PDF versions of my shorts, as I'm moving my content off Wordpress soon—see next section.)
Set Up but Coming Soon: (Still followable, if you'd like!)
Substack (Monthly updates starting in June. Will include progress updates, exclusive snippets, worldbuilding talk, and more.)
Neocities (Upcoming author site. See Bluesky/Twitter/Substack for progress updates.)
Note: If you have accounts on any of these, feel free to give me a follow, and I will 100% follow you back. b)'')b
Otherwise, for more info about future plans and the Great Borking, click the read more!
Have you seen this post already and want to avoid seeing it again? Block the tag the great hiatus 2024. You're welcome. ;)
So what happened? Tl;dr, account is borked and basically cannot interact with posts, cannot see/send asks, cannot see/send tags, cannot be viewed in the notes (meaning no reblogs with tags or replies), basically cannot do anything except post and reblog a whole lot and hope people just happen across what I have to say.
Unfortunately, because I've slowed down with posting excerpts (because I'm aiming to query later this year) and because a lot of the rest of the content here hinges on the ability to do any of the things mentioned in the paragraph above, I can't really do anything with this account. I've notified support a couple weeks ago, buuuuut . . . it might take a while to get word back.
Until then, I've decided to take an indefinite hiatus. I've technically already been on it, but I've come back every week to update y'all on where to find me. Sad to say, this will be the last time I do so until the account gets fixed.
-
Have you thought about remaking? I have, but I'm not really interested in doing so, tbh, especially with an open support ticket. I mean, yes, I do miss interacting with people, and that would be the easiest way to stay in touch with all the friends I've made on Tumblr, but at the same time, it'd be a lot of work to rebuild what I've made here, on the same platform I've had problems with, you know? So right now, I'd rather wait to see if the account I already have gets fixed, and if so, I'd stay right here where it's basically stable.
-
What about the meetups? They're still being hosted! If you're not a member of the NYC meetup Discord, send me a note (on one of the other platforms), and I'll send you a link to get you set up. Announcements for future meetups, as well as sign-up sheets, will be posted to Bluesky and Instagram starting next week.
As for @writeblrmeetups, I'm open to finding a co-moderator to take care of it for now. If you're interested, message me (again, on one of the other platforms).
-
What if your account never gets fixed? Would you remake then?¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On a serious note, leaning towards no, but if that changes, you'll be the first to know (with an intro post—though for sure, keep an eye on Twitter/Bluesky for any word that I've remade).
-
If your account gets fixed, could I be notified? Sure! If my account gets fixed, I'm planning on making a new intro post. If you'd like to be tagged in it, leave a reaction (like, reblog with tags, replies) to this post, and I'll see it when I get back.
-
Anything else? Nah, that's pretty much it. That all said, thanks so much to everyone who's voiced support throughout the Great Borking, but also, thank you to everyone who's supported me throughout my time in writeblr before then. I genuinely hope this isn't the last we'll see from each other on Tumblr, but if it is, I also hope y'all consider following me on the platforms mentioned at the top of this post.
Until sometime soon, catch y'all on the flipside!

when i say i wish people started using the reblog button more i don't mean it in a 'i want more notes' kind of way i mean it in a 'i want to read about your thoughts on this particular thing' and 'i want to have conversations in the tags' and 'i want this to feel like a community again and not like any of those boring social media platforms where artists are content creators and interactions never goes beyond a like'

🍄Decriscribe your wip/one of your wips in the format of “_ + =__” 🌍What tags or warnings will your / one of your wip(s) need if you intend to share it?
🍄Decriscribe your wip/one of your wips in the format of “_ + =__”
I wanted this one so bad, you have no idea (Except you do lol) Black Butler but only the Reapers + The Office = Reapers. 100% what I'm going for with that one.
🌍What tags or warnings will your / one of your wip(s) need if you intend to share it?
Going with Reapers again, it's going to need probably a lot, and even possibly ones that I'm not even aware of yet, but suicide, death, emotional abuse are all definitely ones that it's going to need. Fortunately mostly because of background rather than being actively depicted, but even so, those are all a big part of the story.

A slightly unfortunate part of this, though, is uh. I only saw this updated version of the post because it was on my dash. I did not get the notification for you tagging me.
So yeah, message sent to support. Idk if anyone can actually see this post, but like. If I am straight-up shadowbanned, Ig this is what gets me to finally jump ship to Cohort and Bluesky, lmao. Like, I'd hate to leave, but tbh, if y'all literally can't see me (I can't tell—I just know that I can't see any of the asks in my inbox and can't message people on my main), then there really is no point in staying.
Still, not going to do the whole doom-and-gloom stuff just yet. I'll be back for tags next week, and if it's still a thing, I'll let y'all know where to find me next. b)'')b

'Allo, Cryptic! :D 19 and 36 for the writer's ask meme?
Heyyyyyy, Jax!
19.  How do you keep yourself motivated?
The short answer is an unfortunate one. Boy do I wish I knew! The long answer is that I'll go a long time being unmotivated and then just fixate incredibly hard, either on a new idea or an old character that I miss, and for a little while I'll be rolling in words, to the point where it almost hurts not to write. And then it's over. And even thinking about writing is what hurts instead. So uh. Yeah.
36.  Last sentence you wrote
In all honesty, I haven't written in forever. So rather than the last sentence I wrote, since it's in the poem I posted a bit ago, how about the last sentence I wrote that HASN'T been posted!
"It's the apocalypse, Ben."
