KEEPER
at some point, yuyang forgets why he’s doing this.
this being sprinting across a campus he can just barely say he knows outside of fall when the leaves lining baekyangro are especially worthwhile. there’s a clear file containing a neatly stapled report on some scientific gibberish he gave up on trying to comprehend two minutes into his first and last feeble attempt at reading through it clutched in his hand. he’s not really sure what struck him about the report so poignantly that he felt compelled to return it to its owner. maybe it was the FINAL REPORT typed ominously in bold. or the name? jeno? don’t hear that one too often. he was sort of curious to see what kind of person jeno was. or, wait, ah, yeah—he remembers now.
it was the glaring due date on the report that very clearly reflected today’s date, and yuyang isn’t heartless enough to let a student take a hit like this when he could do something about it.
he just, well, before committing himself to the cause, hadn’t really thought too far into it. for starters, yuyang definitely did not expect to be spending a majority of his morning and a chunk of his afternoon on trying to find this one stranger in a campus too big for his liking. in jeno’s defense, it probably would have taken much less time had yuyang sucked it up early on and just asked someone for help instead of stubbornly refusing to interact with strangers for the first two hours he wandered around yonsei.
but that’s the past. the present is what matters the most—and in the present, yuyang has finally found a location and a time. and speaking of time, it’s almost up.
hence why our humble protagonist jettisons himself through a crowd of students, nearly stumbling and slipping at every corner as he tries to navigate the science hall.
the end of his (this is embarrassing) three hour saga is very close to an end.
ten minutes before the purported class is supposed to end, song yuyang skids to a stop in front of the classroom in question and flings—flings—the door open. it’s unintentional, and he can’t really bring himself to apologize about it when his body is insisting he lie down right then and there and take a nap, but yuyang lifts his head in feeble greeting when all eyes turn to him.
“is—” he grimaces, one particularly sharp breath clawing its way out of his throat. with much futility, yuyang lifts the file up. “is lee jeno here?”

status: please stop💍: in a relationship
honestly, it depends. generally speaking, he’s not much different. smiles more, laughs more, but just look at the way he treats his roommate and anyone else that has the great honor (jk) of being on the receiving end of yuyang’s clinginess, and that’s probably how he’d be in a relationship. one (1) man who isn’t afraid to show he loves u!!!

status: please stop🛌: sleeping habits
pretty structured. or, actually, it depends on the week… the day… the mood. for the most part, he sleeps around the same time and wakes up at the crack of dawn to exercise (i know, disgusting) or take a walk. something about the city being near-quiet has always been a comfort to him. seoul’s never silent, but the early mornings lend a little more to serenity than the middle of the day when he’s daydreaming and nearly getting hit by cars and stuff. on sporadic occasions, he might stay up to finish watching a show or a movie, or even to finish a piece (though this hasn’t been the case since he took his leave of absence from hongik). a good “sleeper” (??) for the most part, but he does get cold easily and has to be buried in thick blankets with too-many pillows for him to cling onto.

status: please stop🌞: dealing with a heatwave
living in a nice-enough place that air conditioning usually isn’t an issue, but when unit’s not as cool as it should be and the weather outside is disgusting, he doesn’t move. literally does not move. yuyang lie in his bed as still as possible for as long as possible. people will have to forcibly drag him away from his oldass electric fan. he's bad with temperature extremes. summer really ain’t shit!

ONLY PIECES
yuyang can’t say with certainty that he’s a fan of heights.
in fact, on most days of the years, he much prefers having his feet firmly on the ground instead of—to put it as eloquently as possible—dangling however-many-feet in the air because somehow he managed to get trapped in a tree of all things.
it isn’t so much the judgmental stares of passing children and confused adults, mostly parents, have been directing in yuyang’s direction that bothers him. what bothers him most is that he came up here for the sole purpose of getting an interesting angle with euitaek’s vlogging camera, only to get to a sturdy branch considerably high up with no real concept of how to get back down—
and the camera neglected at the base of the tree.
he can be reckless sometimes, but he isn’t usually reckless and stupid simultaneously, which is what makes this situation that much more frustrating.
as it turns out, trees probably aren’t meant to house people. yuyang has nearly fallen off swatting away cobwebs and the occasional nameless bug four times already in the past twenty minutes, and neither he nor euitaek have come to a reasonable conclusion on How Best to Get Down From the Tree You Stupidly Thought Would Be Smart to Climb.
“i could jump,” yuyang murmurs to himself, leaning back against the trunk. as each second passes, yuyang becomes more and more resigned, one might even say content with the idea of living up here for eternity. he’s not one for dramatic so he knows that at some point, he’ll have to stop pretending to be a walking stick or another similarly woodsy creature and go back to being song yuyang, who has to go to work in an hour and a half.
a couple of birds titter noisily as they settle on the end of the branch he’s stretched his legs out on. he makes eye contact and they remain, chirping incessantly to each other while staring at him. this must be how cinderella felt, or maybe this is the plot behind a horror movie where he gets eaten by two songbirds.
“hey,” yuyang calls out, peering his head over his shoulder and down at euitaek. “should i just jump?”

WITHOUT YOU
he might have been on the cusp of six when he’d furrowed his brows, cheeks red with frustration, uncharacteristically petulant as he told his mother, arms crossed against his chest, i hate you.
it’s been years, but he still remembers the flicker of shock on her face, the residual something that tugged at his heart lingering in her gaze. father pulled him aside afterward and sat him down, hands firm on yuyang’s shoulders. the sternness his father typically exuded was nowhere to be found, replaced with what might have been exhaustion, resignation, as he said, you have to use your words carefully. they’re powerful.
yuyang values his words. the last thing he wants to do is be misunderstood. the world is a giant, beating heart, constantly on the brink of breaking—and he thinks in passing, when the glass pane of a storefront reflects his image and he sees his mother’s eyes in himself, that it’d be a pity if he were the one to break it.
the cellphone in his hand is heavy and yuyang is listless as his arm drops back to his side. the words ‘i promise’ are still on the tip of his tongue and all he really feels is something akin to numbness. maybe he ought to call his father back, rescind the promise and replace it with something more lenient, forgiving—something less of a chain to china, to what is supposed to be home.
(one year, baba says. one year and then you come back home.)
while he’d prefer to sink deeper into his bed and block out the noisy thoughts threatening to burst past the barricade of white noise he’s much more accustomed to drowning in, it’s with purpose that yuyang forces himself out of his bedroom and peeks his head into the living room. there’s only one person he ever looks for these days, and more often than not, that person is never too far out of reach.
yunseo is sitting on the couch, a newspaper of all things opened and perched in front of him. on a quieter day, yuyang might laugh, but there’s a traitorous thumping of his heart as it races too quickly reeling him back to reality.
reality is his alone today. he’ll swallow it.
“hyung,” he calls out, padding across the open space to plop down unceremoniously beside yunseo. there’s no hesitation; yuyang immediately rests his head on yunseo’s shoulder, knowing full-well he’s being distracting. “let’s do something.”

me reblogging my intro post twice? more likely than u’d think
anyway i put together a crap plots page! hopefully will have some more ideas to add later but yea. still getting around to ims but thank u for ur patience T_T
Tumblr media
unfashionably late as always, but hey guys! i’m excited to be here for cityscape’s inaugural weekend and even more excited to write with all of u! :D
this is yuyang! he’s a china-transplant who’s been floating around in korea for the past two years or so. he’s a drifter at heart, very much so does his own thing, and probably cares very little what the rest of the world thinks of him (not in a malicious way - he just doesn’t have the attention span to, you know, focus on things outside of his sphere of inviolability). first came to korea as an exchange student for oriental painting (his specialty is actually watercolor, but eh) and decided to transfer last minute. recently, he took a leave of absence from school because 1) no muse and 2) he’s reckless enough to drop out for that one reason alone.
usually seen wandering the streets looking particularly lost (he’s not). he works as a delivery boy for a bunch of different places and takes on whatever odd job he thinks sounds interesting. when yuyang isn’t out melting into the world, he’s probably curled up in his room watching documentaries about the ocean.
he doesn’t talk much because he’s wary of being misunderstood but he’s got a firm grasp on understanding korean. and while he’s kind of hard to read, yuyang is really just… sort of shy so!
please like this post if you’re interested in plotting :D i have some info up for him on his profile page and his bio page but the plots page has yet to be born. stay tuned!!

As a welcome to all of our members, we’re reblogging our first meme! Since everyone is new and getting to know each others’ muses, we’re starting out with a headcanon meme! This can be answered through either a solo or drabble through your muse’s perspective or as an out of character commentary about their life and experiences. And be sure to remember roleplay karma; the more memes you send out, the more you’re likely to receive!
Send one of the following for a headcanon about my muse…

What horrifies me most is the idea of being useless: well-educated, brilliantly promising, and fading out into an indifferent middle age.
