Though I’m nobody here, I will be stepping away from interactions and involvement with QSMP and its fandom going forward.

Though the majority of my interactions here on Tumblr have been lovely — most here are far more measured and respectful, and you are all creative as hell, never stop creating! — the greater fandom community as a whole has turned into something too sour for me to engage with further.

I hope that it still brings joy to others in the months ahead. Take care of each other and lift one another up.

This blog will likely be repurposed in future for enjoying Hermitcraft season 10, and general Minecraft content. We shall see.

Until then, adios.

(PS Ramón will forever be the best egg. Don’t @ me. I’m not wrong.)

•he hadn't seen all the tweets about the situation which led him to a distorted view of the accusations

•he did this live cause his previous statement was inappropriate

• he will sue people still

• he admits that the tweets could make him seem like a monster

• he gave further context; he was a smaller creator and it was a very close knitted community so he was friends with them, he was dumb and a "jokester"/prankster also a chronically online incel;

• he understands now that those jokes are inappropriate and regrets them, that there's a lot of people who actually suffer from them

•he apologised to the people that felt bad and/or triggered by those tweets

• he highlights that he never hurt anybody; there's no victims, just him saying stupid shit

•he is not the same person and has changed and is very grateful for being a better person

•asks people to not send hate to his team

•regular lives will be back on Monday

⚠️ Fandom is Moving Forward with Generative AI ⚠️

As of December 15, Fandom has announced their plans to continue using AI to "enhance" their articles.

In short, they claim to have primarily used AI to

Scan images for "appropriateness" (be that NSFW content or just fitting in with the theme of the show), which still involves scraping tons of images and comparing them to a potentially unethically sourced database. As with all machine learning using images, it is still wildly inaccurate.

Optimizing edits - something they admit is still severely lacking because it can't read tables or variants on simple things like "birthday"

Optimizing SEO - this is clearly what they care most about, since Google likes the "Quick Answers" - as shitty as they were - this means they can continue to dominate the search results and gain more ad revenue.

This is a good time to remember that Fandom is a for-profit company with inverstors, which means their end goal is always to make the most money possible. They don't care about "The Fans" (despite the lip service), and they don't care about the authenticity of user-generated content if they can figure out how to automate the process.

STOP USING FANDOM.

Alternatives/Workarounds:

Indie Wiki Buddy is an extension that will redirect you to non-Fandom versions of wikis if it's in their database.

BreezeWiki displays all Fandom wikis in a clean, ad-free format with just the article content (no links to their forums, autoplay videos, etc)

If you must use Fandom, install UBlock Origin. It's available on all desktop browsers and Firefox Mobile. Hit them where it hurts. And encourage the wiki teams to leave Fandom if they can.

Also, be sure to support independent wikis! You can disable adblockers while on their sites, as they usually have much less obtrusive ads which directly fund server maintenance rather than CEO salaries. Change links on your posts/pages to direct to non-Fandom Wikis (even wiki.gg is better).

Keep information free from corporatization.

a friend of mine who is a portuguese speaker did me a huge solid and translated what forever said on his stream today, and gave me permission to share while keeping themselves anonymous

and since i have already seen monolingual english speakers spreading shit all over the site im just gonna put it here, not say anything and let people make their own judgement

i have my own opinions about the matter, but those are for me to meander over, but i WILL say im extremely disappointed in so many blogs in the tag who i have seen trusting anons telling them fragments of this stream out of context to pain him in an even worse light.

For the moment I’ll be putting a pause on content related to Forever, his character and his various series on this blog. I’m not sure at this time what sort of engagement may happen in the future, if any.

I don’t have anything constructive to add on these matters. I’m very disappointed by what’s come out, while also somewhat pragmatic - 8+ years is a long time to grow up and learn to be a better person. I like to believe people can change for the better. But no one can deny that the handling of things has been badly fumbled, and this isn’t something that will blow over any time soon — nor should it. Accountability and taking responsibility are important things in my eyes.

What I will say to those caught flat footed and who now find themselves left reeling and unsure and hurt: it’s going to be okay.

Take some time for yourself, take a break, give yourself space to process. It’s okay to be sad and disappointed, and it’s ok to be angry. It’s ok to decide to wait and let cooler heads prevail before making any decisions or judgments, and definitely ok to stop and walk away. Don’t judge yourself for things you did not know. And don’t feel bad for finding happiness and inspiration to create because of the shadows now cast on the stories that were told - there will be other brighter lights in your life that will bring joy, and that drive to create will always be yours.

Remember to tag your posts responsibly, be mindful of the impact on others when sharing details about the serious circumstances involved, and don’t rely on only one source for answers. Especially when it comes to Twitter/X.

before you cut someone off completely over a callout post, ask yourself a few questions

who is making the callout post?

why are they making it now?

who will it help? what harm will it rectify or prevent?

if there is a victim involved, has the victim spoken up? does the victim want to be involved? what would respecting the victim's trauma and story look like?

do you have the full context? if it's in a language you don't speak, do you trust your translators? hint: don't trust machine translators.

if the callout post is over an event more than a year old, does this establish a pattern of behavior? does it line up with the person's current behavior? could they have learned and grown since?

did they apologize for it already? are you sure? have you checked? what was the quality of that apology?

what would a solution that isn't dumping them in the garbage look like? how could you get to that solution?

do you have to act now? would it be more prudent to wait for more information to emerge?
