The way Edwin confessed his love will never not break my heart because the "i love you... As more then a friend i'm afraid" is PAINFUL. Like "i'm AFRAID"?? like he's basically saying i'm sorry but unfortunatly this happened and i really hope you're okay with it but i'm sorry. It just sounds like such an apology and it is so REAL for me as a queer person especially if you've only realized recently to be sorry about how you feel like it's a bad thing that you should be apologizing for and it BROKE me edwin i feel u and Charles' response to it right after healed my soul from my childhood trauma and brought me back to life
The thing that gets me about Charles' response to Edwin's confession is that that is not a man saying no, that is a man saying "I love you the most in every other aspect of my life. Give me time to find out if, maybe, I can love you the most in this one, too."
It's absolutely hilarious to me that we are shown Charles being jealous of every dude who talks to Edwin but even though Edwin says "I just find her so oddly charming" about Niko and they clearly click almost instantly, Charles is not jealous at all??
Like, did Charles clock Edwin a long time ago already or what? dude was so secure that Niko was not a threat, but Monty and the Cat King? oh no no no
there is no heterosexual explanation for the way todd acted when neil died.
the fact that they all came to tell him last, stood there, ready to comfort him and tell him the news and just be there. And then when he did find out he just ran and stumbled and kept running and crying like you cannot tell me that this was just his “friend”
A (possibly insignificant) detail I love about Dead Poets Society is the fact that Neil plays Puck, who is eluded to be queer/gay and Shakespeare himself was known to write about homosexual relationships. Neil compares Todd exclusively to Walt Whitman, a man known for having relationships with men. They are both comparable to other queer people/characters so easily and I feel like this isn’t pointed out enough??
