It was almost playfully stated, but then Astra winced as she pushed herself to sit up. “You can write it off as me being nice. You have been very good to me lately and I’m a little too tired to reward you in any other way.” As she spoke, Astra pulled off her suit, going slowly bit by bit. Eventually she manages to get it down past her waist and then to her hips. Astra doesn’t bother with the rest of it. She appreciated having him there and knew that he would be very unlikely to leave until satisfied that she was alright. At least she wouldn’t have to suffer the consequences of her failures alone. “Get me a wet cloth or something, so I can clean this off of me.” 

“Is that true now?” he commented playfully, knowing otherwise. He nodded, hesitating a bit more, searching features, before departing to fill the request. Non knew better than to take her word for the injuries, although admittedly her playful words had made him chuckle (albeit stiffly, unpracticed in the way of bantering like others among their ranks were prone to). Finding himself listening for her breath, inspiration, exhalation, he paid little attention to the splash of the sink (whatever accommodations might be praised, human plumbing did not live up to the standards, and even for spartan accommodations, he grew annoyed with the idiosyncrasies, prone as he was to failing Kryptonian ones). Non gritted his teeth and took in the wet patch on his uniform, dismissing it briefly to wet the cloth. Very well. He returned to her bedside quickly, passing the cloth to her without comment; surely she did not appreciate being babied further?

He just nodded and followed his sister. It would take him a bit to cheer up and mentioning Non did help as Ker-Ze perked up instantly. “Dad? I was planning on flying over to see all of them in a bit. But I called him a few days ago. He is going alright. It’s always so hard to tell if there is something wrong. I think he’s getting kinda old though, he seems tired lately.” Ker shrugged and shoved his hands in his pockets. Then he got a sort of devious look on his face. “Or maybe the Moms are wearing him out.” 

“Well that’s one of the things that parents usually get,” she replied cheekily, eager to brighten his spirits after the platitudes she’d offered. She grimaced at the mental image and playfully whacked him on the shoulder. “Gross, Ker, gross. Although I wouldn’t put it past him--- great, now you’ve ruined my appetite for pancakes.” She grinned, holding open the door and smiling when she caught the eyes of the woman behind the counter. She fumbled for her wallet, assuming he wanted the usual before mouthing off their go-to orders in Cantonese, having read the signage as they passed the storefront. The woman, a bit surprised, nodded and went to note it down, when Zen remembered to add, “to go, please,” and turned back to Ker. “You think they’d know to pace themselves.”
