👀 🧴 Is it worth it to invest in an eye cream 🧐? Before I answer here are important facts👏🏻. The most important thing with skincare is to help your skin to function better. One of the primary function of the skin is to retain water 💦 . The delicate area of the eyes is the first one to show signs of aging and is prone to dehydration. So Yes an eye cream is an absolute must in my book. The reason why my eye area still looks smooth at my age 😬 is due to plenty of moisturizers and sun protection (obviously). Now, do you need a dedicate eye cream the answer is NO. Lots of face moisturizers are perfectly suitable for the eye contour 🤭. Make sure that you use a fragrance, essential oil and alcohol-free formula. I do use a dedicated eye cream because I need more emollients for my eye contour than for the rest of my face. My under lids have a lot of fine lines, good moisturizers have to smooth them. I especially like the Paula’s Choice Anti-aging eye cream. It has shea butter, dimethicone, and Hydrogenated Polyisobutene and no junk. Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is an oil that can replace mineral oil and that is 100% safe (scroll the second picture). 😌 Expensive does not rime with quality and noble ingredients money 💰. La crème de la Mer 🌊 is the perfect example. It is a mineral oil-based cream. I have nothing against mineral oil. It is the best occlusive that we have and it is very safe. It is also one the cheapest ingredient. You find mineral oil and petrolatum in the famous Nivea cream that cost a fraction of the cost of the La Mer 😅🤣. What is very disturbing in my opinion is the crazy amount of icky ingredients aka derivatives of essential oils (limonene, geraniol, linalool, hydrocitronellal, citronellol…)😝. The perfume system is also far from being optimal because it contains benzyl salicylate and citral. In the EU those two have to be listed separately because of their known irritant potential. So $325 for mineral oil and a bunch of irritants it is a massive NO NO. I have the full review on my youtube channel. The link is in my bio 👆. I made this review thanks to my friend Tina. 🎶 Music by @alpharo___ - Too Early via @hellothematic (à Virginia Beach, Virginia) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz__4uMHxoK/?igshid=wzrlhf519u8s

🇯🇵 🧴 Today I’ve received some Japanese sunscreens. The Skin Aqua Tone up UV essence in Mint 🍃 green SPF50+ PA++++. This one has been reformulated without any alcohol 🙊. The texture is very lovely and it leaves the skin very silky. I love it already. The only downside is the perfume. The second one is from Allie the Extra UV perfect SPF50+ PA++++. It is a milk that is supposed to be friction resistant 🤓. It is a hybrid sunscreen that contains mineral (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) and organic filters (Octinoxate, Uvinul A plus). I will put it to the test 🔬 . If you like my content check my youtube channel. 👂🏻 Have you heard about tranexamic acid? There are nice studies that have found that tranexamic acid reduces the dreadful melanoma 🤓. I especially like this paper published in J Cutan Aesthetician’s Surg in 2019 by Janney MS et al. that have compared 5% tranexamic acid versus 3% hydroquinone. They have found that tranexamic acid is as effective as hydroquinone to reduce melasma without the con of hydroquinone aka irritations 👏🏻! If you are suffering from hyperpigmentation it is worth to invest in a tranexamic acid based product in addition to other actives. Of course, don’t forget your sunscreen 🧴 and give time to the actives to work. I recommend the Hada Labo Shirojyun Premium Deep whitening cream. ✍️ Biblio DOI:10.4103/JCAS.JCAS_40_18 If you like my content check my youtube channel. ☀️🗿The biggest con of mineral sunscreens is the white cast and they lower UVA protection compared to a good organic filter. The Bioderma Photoderm Nude is a good compromised it offers excellent UVA protection of PPD25 and it is tinted. It is targeted to combination to oily skin but it still has a dewy finish. IMO, it is better to set it with powder. This one offers some coverage and is for medium skin tone. It exists in two shades. If your skin is dry use plenty of moisturizers underneath. Don't forget your sunglasses and a big hat🕶👒. For more recommendation check my last video 🙊. 🗿🧴Mineral sunscreens are great options for sensitive skin to organic filters, acne prone, young children, and after dermatologic procedures such as strong peels, resurfacing laser, micro needling… The only downsides of most mineral sunscreens are there lower UVA protection compared to excellent organic sunscreen and the white cast. In my last video, I give you some tips to increase the chance of choosing a mineral sunscreen that will have decent UVA protection. Two of my favorite are from Innisfree and Make p:rem for everyday use. For more recommendation check my last video 🙊. 🌊Our dead skin layer needs water to function correctly. All biochemical reactions happening at the surface of the skin require water 🤓. This water is either drawn from the deeper layer or from the air thanks to humectants 🚰. Our skin produces its own humectants named natural moisturizing factors. It is very important to help our skin to function better by using skincare riched in humectants. The Hada Labo Gokujyun essence is a perfect example of a hydrating serum should be 🤩. For more recommendation check my video on the hydration and don't forget to shield your skin from UVs. 🔭🛒The quest to find the perfect sunscreen 🧴 is one of the hardest. There is always something wrong with sunscreens😳. The texture is lovely but the protection is too low, the protection is awesome but it has a white cast 👻 and so on. For today’s video, I want to explain how you can correct the white cast using a tinted sunscreen. Likewise, you don't compromise the protection but still looks decent. With this technique, you can use a sunscreen using one of my favorite filters the Tinosorb M without the dreadful white cast. Bye white cast ! 🌊 Toners and essences are great tools to build in the hydration 💧. The good ones contain lots of humectants that will attract the water in the dead skin layer. This is what is missing in most skin care routines. When you cleanse your skin you remove the lipids and also the natural humectants present in the dead skin layer. This is why I always recommend using a good toner or essence after cleansing the face. The Kylie skin milk toner is the exact product that you DON’T WANT on your face 😑. This toner is oil based that contains glycerin as a humectant and that’s basically it. What I find very shady about the formula (and in all Kylie Skin products) is the place of the preservatives in 6th position 😤! Preservatives (here phenoxyethanol) should always be found at the end of the formula. Phenoxyethanol is used at 1% or below. So in this toner, most of the ingredients are below 1% and are lipids. I suspect that the majority of ingredients in Kylie skin are in the tiniest amount. In contrary, the Hada Labo alpha lotion is rich in humectants (more than 10) that will replenish your skin in water. Not to mention that the preservative is at the end of the formula. No shadiness and you pay for good skin care. If you want to watch me spill the tea on the whole line check my videos. The link is in my bio. 🌊 In my opinion, the biggest skin issue is dehydration. I see it every single day. It is not that easy to find the correct product that contains lots of humectants to replenish your stratum corneum with water 💦 . The secret to obtaining plumb and healthy looking skin is humectants. The most famous is hyaluronic acid but there are many other ones, such as complex sugar, amino acids, peptides, propolis extracts… I talk about them on my new video 🙊. Retinoic acid is often described as the biologically active form of vitamin retinol (=vitamin A). This is a misconception that far too often written in scientific articles. Our skin cells naturally use the retinol of the blood to store it or “use” it to power the vitamin A pathway. The vitamin A pathway starts with retinol that is subsequently oxidized into retinal and retinoic acid. Retinoic acid can bind to retinoic receptors (formed by different subunits). The binding of retinol acid to its receptors unleashed a cascade of cellular responses, proliferation, thicker epidermis, new and more collagen... So yes retinol is biologically active and is a powerhouse ingredient. Don’t dish it over acid retinoic. Retinol induces similar results to acid retinoic at 1% in anti-aging routines and is far less irritant than retinoic acids. Of course in certain cases, retinoic acid is necessary over retinol. My last video shows you how to start a retinol routine to correct aging. It is the beginning of a series with my mom. The link is in my bio. The glory of retinol. In over the counter, it is the only active that is truly anti-aging it stimulates the synthesis of Collagen, Elastin, Hyaluronic acid and makes your skin cells proliferate. I have a retinol series. The biggest issue with retinol is how to start and how to use it. My last video shows you how to use retinol as a treatment featuring my lovely mom. PartII: the part one of this post is on wearabats. Andre and I decide to collab on the breaking downtown of the new flawless nightly serum. Bakuchiol Bakuchiol is a meroterpene phenol abundant in seeds and leaves of the plant Psoralea CorylifoliaIn. In 2014 it was published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science a study to compare the skin related activities of Bakuchiol vs Retinol. In vivo studies showed promising results with observable improvement of firmness and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles in a 12 weeks period. Comparison of results of day 0 (baseline) vs. 4, 8 and 12 weeks treated skin provided -7%, -13% and -20% reduction in wrinkle depth. Earlier this year a prospective, randomised, double-blind study compared the clinical efficacy and side-effect profiles of Bakuchiol and retinol in the improvement of photo-ageing. For a 12 week period, 44 patients were asked to apply either bakuchiol 0.5% cream twice daily or retinol 0.5% cream at night. Assessments were done at weeks 4, 8 and 12. By the end of the study both significantly decreased wrinkle surface area and hyperpigmentation with Retinol users reporting more facial skin scaling and stinging compare to the other group. Bakuchiol induces its own set of chemical pathways but one curious aspect when making a direct comparison to Retinol is the gene expression, which in vitro studies suggest some similarities. The opposite can also be said as many genes were not expressed under Bakuchiol application. The experiment set up for gene expression is not optimal though. It is important to note that Bakuchiol has no molecular structure resemblance with retinoids. In the same in vitro studies Bakuchiol presented appreciable antioxidant capacities, mithocondrial lipid peroxidation protection, and anti-fungal activity. Research is still premature but considering some people are actually intolerant to any relevant retinoid molecule, it is good to see some kind of cosmetic alternative. The green market will make next world claims but please be aware, Bakuchiol a treatment for acne or any other skin pathology. And now you can find it in the new Serum from @drsambunting which also contains granactive. Azelaic ac (at Paris, France) https://www.instagram.com/p/BylcbScIACi/?igshid=htlyeg563gfa

💉 Today’s I discuss the recent paper on the absorption of sunscreen filters in the blood published in JAMA in May 2019: “Effect of Sunscreen Application Under Maximal Use Conditions on Plasma Concentration of Sunscreen Active Ingredients: A Randomized Clinical Trial”. This paper has caused quite a stir. Let me debunk the scientific evidence and tell why this paper doesn’t provide anything really new. If you are still concerned by it, I recommend sunscreens that don’t use the incriminated filters. The link is in my bio. https://www.instagram.com/p/BygKt-8o5_F/?igshid=5b22q60g4liw
