What gets me about the Immortan Joe/Dementus dynamic is that it feels like Joe will see a version of himself reflected back at him in this charismatic upstart. He knows the kind of hunger that drives someone to carve their legacy into the ever shifting sands of The Wasteland-it’s what led to him taking the Citadel, and the title of the Immortan being thrust onto him by his own fanatical followers. The Biker Horde will threaten that very same thing happening to Joe. Two people cut from that kind of cloth could never really coexist, but damn will it be interesting to see how they dance around each other in their bids for ultimate control over the Triumvirate.

Feel like there should be at least some women in the Biker Horde. We’ll just have to wait and see whether she has any kind of significance or is just another background character. Her being played by Chris’s wife does provide some hope that she may be in the film in a slightly more notable capacity, even if it’s just something like her showing up here and there in various scenes.

Dementus, Smeg, Rizzdale Pell, Fang, and the Organic Mechanic all visible here. Octoboss slightly out of frame. I love how Dementus visually pops out in this shot.

For anyone not in the know, The Wasteland is currently rumored to be envisioned as a TV show, probably a miniseries. I honestly don’t think a film could fully do justice to its narrative since it was originally meant to be told in that format-going all the way back to its pre-Fury Road conception in the late 1980s (when it was supposed to run for multiple seasons like many shows of that time). Whether this does end up happening is entirely contingent on how well Furiosa performs in theaters. If the film does great then we will 100% be getting The Wasteland after nearly four decades of the story’s evolution.
New revelations on r/MadMax revealing more about The Wasteland and its journey towards being adapted and just, holy shit has that project gone through so many developmental iterations.

According to director Dan Trachtenberg, Sarii’s presence in the film was heavily inspired by The Road Warrior, and “Mad” Max Rockatansky’s loyal dog companion from that film, known simply as “Dog.” So, giving Naru a dog was always part of the plan for Prey. What changed along the way was just how much Sarii would end up being in the film.
“We were trying to get Coco out of scenes but the opposite ended up being true, and we ended up including her more – even in some of the action set-pieces, because I just thought it’d be so fun,“ Trachtenberg said. “One of the great things about Road Warrior is the way Mad Max uses his doggy, so we wanted to have the same kind of fun in this movie as well.” - SYFY Wire

The teddy bear thing does seem to be another case of George and co. holding on to certain ideas through different media. Also goes to show that Joe’s symbol is so good the only thing Dementus could do was to try to add something onto it lol. As for the Bullet Farm, there is definitely some Trojan War parallels going on there. Pretty certain that was what Mad Max Bible was alluding to when discussing this a while back. I wonder where that’ll put Kalashnikov in this state of affairs-does he ally with Dementus? Is he held hostage? Did he flee after Dementus fought to take the Bullet Farm? There’s similar adjacent questions to be asked about the loyalties of the other warlords and their various underlings. We know that the Organic Mechanic ends up with Joe, so there’s undoubtedly going to be an interesting journey for him where he’ll eventually leave Dementus’s service for good. We also don’t know as much about Scabrous and his intentions within this story. I’m very much looking forward to getting more of the political aspects of The Wasteland in a way that we haven’t quite seen before. We’ve never had a Mad Max story set against the backdrop of a huge Wasteland War. Lots of moving pieces to consider.
Mad Max Teddy Bear Weirdness
Tumblr media
Much attention has been paid to Dementus' teddy bear. The cast has even been calling the Dementus gang the "teddy bear gang." Dementus' symbol is just... Joe's symbol with teddy bear ears drawn on.
Tumblr media
But this isn't the first appearance of weirdly affixed teddy bears in the Mad Max universe. Sure, Toadie in MM2 has some plushies hanging off his costume, but I'd like to call some attention to Major Kalashnikov/the Bullet Farmer in the 2015 Mad Max: Fury Road comics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As shown here, Kalashnikov is drawn with a teddy bear strapped to his helmet. It's illustrated in multiple panels, so it wasn't a one-off fluke. Was this detail intended to be foreshadowing? On top of that, it appears that there's some kind of conflict between the Bullet Farm and Furiosa's War Rig in the Furiosa trailer.
Tumblr media
Under normal circumstances, you wouldn't expect the crew of a War Rig to be throwing thundersticks at the folks from the Bullet Farm... Nor would you expect the Bullet Farm squad to shoot at one of Joe's War Rigs. A reliable source has indicated that a "Trojan Horse" is a major plot point in the film. Could this be it? Could the Trojan Horse war rig be a way for Furiosa to launch a sneak attack on the Dementus-allied Bullet Farm? Is the Bullet Farmer on Team Dementus for some reason? Is that why the Bullet Farmer is absent from this warlord group shot?
Tumblr media
...Is an alliance with the Bullet Farm a reason why Dementus has a gang member with a truly absurd number of AK-47 ammo pouches on his costume and four guns mounted to his bike?
