ㅤㅤSTUPID. she felt stupid , like a burden and an idiot and a waste of space. she had sat next to Eddie for a long while before finally deciding to wake him , but the second his eyes opened she began to feel guilty. " I ― I'm sorry , Eds I just. " she gulped audibly , rubbing her bare arms with her palms.
ㅤㅤ" I'm scared of my dad finding out ..... what if my mom can't convince him I'm at a girl friend's house , @fearinfected? "

ㅤㅤbeing a part of the Dutton family was destined to destroy her. it was clear from the beginning , but if she needed a reminder , it was starkly presented across Jamie's face. the man had been through so much , but hadn't they all? there was a curse on the family , curse on the land , and none of them were strong enough to escape it. not her loving husband , despite how hard he continued to try. not the headstrong bitch of the family , and especially not the man seated to her left. Jamie wanted so desperately to be accepted , to be loved , that he'd endure the worst of each member of their family if it would give him a tiny glimpse of hope that he was something to someone. THE THOUGHT DEVASTATED MONICA.
ㅤㅤthis was the reason she'd pushed so hard to have him come. when the news of him needing somewhere to stay had been brought to her dinner table , there wasn't even a slight hesitation before she was urging Kayce to call his brother. they were family , and even if the Dutton's struggled with the definition , Monica didn't. she was going to teach Tate that you take care of family. if one single member of your family went without , then you were the one failing.
ㅤㅤher attempt at a heart to heart with @lawhurt as Kayce and Tate were gone brought an ache to her chest , a void that would never be filled again. she'd held it there since her own brother , Robert , had passed. talking with Jamie , allowing Jamie the bedroom down the hall from Tate's , having another member of their family at the dinner table ― it all helped to heal the wound surrounding the void.
ㅤㅤ" I think you need to find a way to honor your family while also acknowledging the fact that they're bad for you. " she told him , turning her head to face him as she said it. the words weren't easy to say , so she knew they'd be hard to hear. " you want so badly for them to tell you that you're worthy , but I bet you don't wonder if they're worthy of you. what do they do for you , Jamie? do you get comfort out of letting them treat you like shit just so that they can stand taller? " yes ― she knew that Jamie was no saint , there were no secrets between her and Kayce , but Monica found it was easy to see his side on some things. Jamie wasn't evil , just midguided.
