The reason you can drive a car everywhere is because people put roads everywhere. People are capable of putting safe bike and walking paths and public transit infrastructure everywhere too. Asphalt and gravel roads are not naturally occurring. You being tied to your car if you want to “go anywhere” isn’t a feature of cars it’s a construction as artificial as the car itself

So I’ve been reading about the finnish folk religion, and apparently in finnish culture, there used to be a time period in which it is considered acceptable to stil linger in your home after your death. That period is 6 weeks, and after that, it’s considered haunting, which is simply just rude.
There are also acceptable and unacceptable reasons to go around haunting people. Those who committed grave crimes, sins or witchcraft would appear to try and either confess or fix the ills they had done. Those who were buried improperly would come back to complain about it.
There was a tale of a woman who was buried unwashed (a corpse must always be washed, I don’t know if this is a thing in other cultures but it is here), and for weeks and months the people of her household were frightened to get up and go take a piss at night, knowing that she had yet again appeared naked, squatting in the wash basin, moaning, “why didn’t y’all wash me?”
And I would like to specify: The dead did not necessarily come as incorporeal figures and ghosts, but occasionally possessing their own old corpses, leaving dirt on your floors and a rotten stench in your house.
There was a man who - the tale says - simply refused to remain in his grave because it was boring, so he went around frightening people and pulling horrible pranks. When his corpse was dug up, it was discovered his socks had been worn to holes. They buried him face down, stating that if he won’t stay down by Christ, he’d better stay down by Satan. That, apparently, worked.
In nursing school, we were taught how to handle the dead body of a patient. I asked my teacher why our instructions specified that the feet of the deceased should be tied together. She said she did not know.

TIL anyone who's going to overwinter in Antarctica has to have had their appendix out. Because removing an appendix that's not causing any trouble just as a precaution is way better than having one that's about to burst when you're on the ass-end of the planet with no way to be rushed to a hospital if shit gets real.

the current thing trad losers are losing their minds over is one singular dude on reddit that refurbished and hand painted a grandfather clock and they keep saying the guy “ruined its value” or “threw thousands out the window by vandalizing a precious heirloom” and let me just say as someone densely familiar with the world of antiques, there’s a 99% chance that this clock was a mass produced reproduction and there’s a 100% chance that clock is not as valuable as ppl think it is. when people hear the word ‘grandfather clock’ they’re always gonna assume you’re talking about something that was handmade in a woodshop by a jolly old man when rlly repros take up a waaay bigger slice of the market far more than any handcrafted items. and besides people will repaint or redecorate these ‘oh so sacred handcrafted items’ every day there’s a huge market for them. it’s the same reason why people like long furbies or dolls that have been customized to have like gore mouths or something. this is literally like watching a bunch of pretentious farts make a mountain out of a molehill. also the clock is kinda cool if I’m being honest

M83, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming, it's what inspired me to go into the music business and on my cycling trip to see them, I realised I was trans. I'd say that's a pretty fundamental change
no more blorbo questions what was the first music album that changed you fundamentally

"Freddie was a very complex person. There was a great side to him, a very generous side, very wise, very funny, very funny offstage, very dark offstage too. But he was magnificent. I think he’s the best rock and roll frontman ever, I think he’s by far the most electrifying frontman that’s ever been." ♥️🌹

Google is replacing their search results with AI answers. There’s a very simple explanation for this: it’s better/cheaper to provide potentially wrong answers to keep you clicking within Google than it is to send you away for the right answers.
