Representation in media
is nowhere to be found for people of Iranian descent so excuse me if I didnāt care when Crazy Rich Asians came out. The Asian community has already had Fresh Off the Boat and other shows, and my white American friends love watching K Dramas. I myself watched a Chinese historical soap on Netflix. I just donāt think that Asians have a problem with representation- especially positive representation. I have never seen even one Persian character on a TV show. Nope, not even a sassy best friend. Never once.
I didnāt realize how much the following would affect me.
So I clicked on this thumbnail because I care about how mainstream media are reporting the recent propaganda by the Bolton and Pompeo administration. I did NOT expect this 2-parted joke.
For context, he was showing a news clip in which a reporter said āThere are Iranian fingerprints all over this tankerā or something like that.
I wasnāt even mad. Iām used to Iranians getting lumped together with Arabs. But I still automatically said to my fiance, āHummus isnāt Iranian.ā Then Trevor went onā¦
I lost my shit. I couldnāt believe The Daily Show *didnāt* just stereotype a country of 80 million people by saying we eat hummus.
But not only that, he used a Farsi word, sabzi, something we actually eat! And then he shamed the audience for laughing about the hummus, and knowing nothing about Iranian culture.
I was giddy the rest of the night.
Thereās no representation for Iranians in the media, so this tiny, stupid joke made me incredibly happy. I felt seen for the first time ever on TV. Thank you Trevor Noah.
And I never want to hear about the ālackā of Asians or Latinos on TV or movies. Ever again.

Improper middle eastern representation and lack of Iranian representation
In media, any and all middle eastern rep has boiled down to;
Sexual belly dancer
A complete and insensitive combination of bangali, southeast asian and indian culture and then calling it Afghani, Pakistani or Iranian
Ppl using Jasmine and Lilac Cookie as examples for rep
None of this is accurate in the goddamn slightest.
The only rep I had growing up was Aladdin. An incredibly racist movie. I still love it due to nostalgia, but itās ultimately harmful. It was made by white ppl, without a single middle eastern to oversee production. Eurocentric beauty standards are placed on the main characters, making them look like entirely different races. While side characters look more like actual middle easterns, but are portrayed as undesirable. (Except for the classic belly dancers).
Aladdin is supposedly Arabian, and Iran isnāt Arabian, so this isnāt even actual rep for me. Itās an insulting mix of several other cultures, including India. Most ppl donāt even know the magic carpet came from a Persian tale. And the fact that Indian culture is corporated in an Arabian movie.
Americans know so little about the middle east that senators once voted to fucking bomb Agrabah (A FICTIONAL COUNTRY). Which just goes to show ppl know nothing about the middle east. My mom has said she was persian and ppl genuinely did not know where that was.
My whole life my mom insisted I hide my culture in front of Americans. That I stay out of the sun to avoid getting too tan, etc. Yet thereās so many Persians in NYC alone (Ik this thanks to the Persian New Year parade) that go hidden and under represented. Thousands of ppl erased from media entirely.
Not to mention, you know in doctorās offices where you have put in what race you are? Middle eastern isnāt a fucking option. Do I put Asian? No, bc most ppl think of east asians with that term. My mom constantly insisted I put white, and that I was white. Yeah, Iranians are not white. White passing? Yes, but not white. Several ppl have tried to guess where I was from- Italian and Latino were the most popular guesses. It got to the point where I had a whole crisis on what race I was.
Let me repeat that.
I had a crisis about what race I was.
Granted I was still in elementary school, but still.
I was too tan and my culture didnāt align with white folks, but I wasnāt latino either. But I wasnāt Indian, nor afghani, nor Pakistani.
Iranians have nothing in media.
The closest to decent rep I have is Kamala Khan. And even she isnāt Iranian/Persian. Sheās Pakastani. Which is the closest Iāll ever get to rep.
Srsly, back in 2020 when ppl thought Iran was gonna start shit, men were sexualizing Iranian models thinking all Iranian women looked like that. We donāt. We have eagle noses and weāre slightly tan, we can have brightly colored eyes and light hair or dark hair. It all depends.
Regardless, if no one is going to make an Iranian character for representation Iāll do it my fucking self.

I understand what you meant but u lost me at āLearned my lesson with paperhatā
All canonical content for paperhat was nothing but Black Hat abusing Flug. The fandom was the one that put on rose tinted glasses and romanticized it.
Black Hat never did what Ozzie did
Ozzie cuddled with Fizz out in the open
Ozzie put Fizzās well being first after Millie hit him with the guitar
Ozzie never once hit Fizz and when he got pissed at Millie and Moxxie, Fizz showed no fear of that anger being turned on him
Black Hat;
Smacked Flug for bringing him water
Rearranged his bones just to summon him
Calls him mediocre and a failure constantly
Iām not sure what ālessonā you mean here. I suppose you mean learn not to to let the fandom look at things through rose tinted glasses, but you canāt act like paperhat was anything but canonically abusive. Especially compared to Fizzarozzie. Iām sorry if I sound rude but I was very negatively affected by the Villainous fandom and their view of paperhat, acting like none of the canonical abuse existed or that the abuse was hot. Thatās kinda the premise of the ship.
Acting like Fizzarozzie could go down that path would imply that the fans were justified in their interpretation of paperhat.
Paperhat was never teased to be a ship. It was never teased to be romantic. There is no ground to compare these ships.
We have literally less than 6 minutes of canon Fizz and Asmodeus content that aired yesterday and there's rampant shipping already /pos
I'd ship it too, but I also want to theorize a bit because we have next to no actual info on what they have between them behind closed doors. (learned my lesson with Paperhat, never again) Three ways this duo could go:
1. Actual relationship.
Could be queerplatonic, could be best friends, yknow, bros being hoes, could be romantic. They are very wholesome and value each other as equals. Maybe in some twist they could be like platonic family to each other. Would be a great villain duo to add to the ever-growing list.
2. Grey area muck.
Could be as affectionate as above, but obvious power dynamic is obvious. Think of Diamonds and Pearls from Steven Universe. Yeah Asmodeus showed concern and affection to Fizz, but it's like if someone kicked your kitten or smashed your laptop. Same attitude, except here the laptop does things like 'walk' and 'have opinions'. They're both fine with the shallowness and maybe throw some mild angst in fanfic about unrequited somethings idk. This dynamic will cause fandom wars.
3. Damned shipwreck so messed up it's unromantic-isable.
Valentino and Angel stuff. Harley Quinn and Joker. Could be Fizzarolli's development/backstory/angst, could be some stockholm syndrome type deal that ends in tragedy. Will be lots of pain. There will also be fandom wars over this.
What do you guys think?
