Here Scarlett Johansson has most probably been air brushed and photoshopped to create the 'perfect' look after using the Dolce & Gabbana makeup. Despite then deceiving the viewer as to how 'great' this  make up is the Ad campaign most probably reached out to many women who went out and bought this brand of makeup. Sill, post processing is accepted in this field of photography.

Jerry Uelsmann was an American photographer, and was the forerunner of photomontage in the 20th century in America.
"Jerry Uelsmann is said to be one of the few select group of artists who can be said to have altered the very language of their discipline. Through the use of composite print, this brilliant technician has invented a unique poetic universe that has extended the definition of what is photographic."
Uelsmann's photographs are not meant to depict a familiar place, but rather allow the viewer to transcend the frames and take them on a journey through the unfathomable.

The negative is the equivalent of the composer's score and the print is the equivalent of the conductor's performance, and the same piece of Mozart is conducted differently, performed differently, by different orchestras, different conductors, and Ansel performed his own negatives differently.

I found this article on the net and found it very intersting. The use of 'too much photoshopping'. So even in landscapes photography too much editing is unacceptable, but why is this? The image isn't used to promote or advertise anything. I will look into this further.

The Discussion
This discussion proved to be a very controversial topic of which some agreed to the use of post processing and some had a very strong view against it. I continued to look further into the topic. I am unsure if I will be looking at post processing in photography as a whole or in a specific type of photography. I am interested in the debate of editing as a whole and what makes it acceptable in some forms of photography and what makes it unacceptable in other.

Jc Ngan Answer- Photographer
1. Do you edit the pictures you take? If yes what do you use and why (please specify the programme you use.  Depends on what photos.. instagram; I used to put a filters on it to just adjust the lighting, but nowadays I use less of the filters.. now I just find them annoying and they give a weird colour payoff.. if im shooting with a dslr I might play around with the lighting in lightroom or photoshop, to adjust the brightness and contrast etc. I don’t really edit my photos apart from the lighting, I wont go crazy and make a girl look super airbrushed in any way, but I might clone part of her skin; if there was any slight imperfections like spots.  2. Do you think editing materials has dramatically changed the way we use the medium of photography? (instagram/photoshop...) i think photography has changed..  3. To what extent is editing acceptable?  To the point where it still looks realistic and not “fake” 4. In what types of photography do you believe post production is acceptable and unacceptable in? fashion/journalism etc. (please briefly explain why) I think its perceived as “acceptable” in the fashion industry because everyone seems to be doing it. Photojournalism not as much since its supposed to be documentary style. 5. In advertisements, although you may know the product has been edited to look amazing, does this still make you want the product? Is it the advertisement that draws you?  I only want or want to buy the product once ive heard good reviews, I try not to believe in whats on the package but rather opinions given by other people. Like I wont go and buy a pot of face cream for £40 unless ive heard people say that its good etc. and I try to stick with what I know especially things like mascara.. 50% of the time its bullshit when they say its lengthening and gives dramatic curls, so I know that I wont go and buy 10 different mascaras because of the packaging  6. Any advert you can think of that really persuaded you to buy the product? (please add a link if you can- or just the brands name) The iphone. Atm im deciding between the ipad and the ipad mini… would like to try out google glasses one day…

Peter Marshall's Answer- Photographer
I edit mostly in Lightroom as I only tend to edit things such as contrast and colour correcting to my photos. I don't feel it has changed photography however I think it has added a whole new area within it. I really think it depends on what you are editing. I think the levels of editing should be limited in factual documents. Basic colour correction ect is fine bit it should not change the message or feel of the image. As I photographer I have a good idea of what is edited and although it makes the product seem better I feel I have a good eye for what is real and fake. Some of the imagery used for camera adverts has caught my eye but maybe that is because it is showing what the camera can do.

1. Photoshop 2. i think it definately has changed the way we use photography. You are able to change the whole mood of a photo's. Mostly I think it has saved photo's. Where we would have never used a photo with bad lighting or having to buy brand new lenses due to them getting scratched or dirty all this can be changed using editing. 3. I believe that editing should only be used to correct area's which could have made the photo poor. 4. I believe editing should not be used in the news, here you are only supposed to display the truth. I do however believe it is vital in advertising. 5. I definately think that it makes you want to buy the product. Most of the time people don't automatically think "thats been edited" you just think WOW! I want that, or I want to look like that! 6. Dyson vacuum, I could have just brought any other hoover- but i had to have this one
