At the risk of sounding anti-intellectual, I think that college should be free and also not a requirement for employment outside of highly specialized career fields

the reason Jenny Nicholson's review of the starcruiser hotel is so damning imo is that she went in completely non-cynically. if you've watched her previous videos it's apparent she loves both star wars and theme parks; she's basically the ideal customer for an experience like this. she was clearly trying to engage with the story elements and experience everything the trip had to offer, she likes kitschy animatronics and special effects - and she still had such a bad time! it's blatantly obvious the actual customer experience was an afterthought to things that would make good photo ops and tiktoks, and the whole trip relied on the functionality of an app that seems thrown together last minute. as someone who also loves star wars and theme parks, it's a real let down - but this is basically what disney has been doing since they bought the star wars ip, so I guess I'm not surprised.

I think the question of what Bluey is as a show is difficult to give an answer to that everyone will agree on but I think ultimately it’s meant for young kids and their parents to watch together as as much of a shared experience and the kids playing with their parents in the show is. What each side gets out of it isn’t quite the same, and different episodes may cater to one side more than others, but it’s for both groups nonetheless. Children get to see fun little stories of kids playing, see a pretty healthy relationship between parents and them modeled, and parents get to see that latter element from the other side, as well as appreciate all the nods to things they go through too.
I do think people can get a little too swept up in treating the show as like, a direct explicit tutorial for life and nothing more, the show absolutely does add things both too realistic and too unrealistic for that. The other Heelers outside of the main 4 definitely seem to be a little less idealized, and there are of course moments where they portray things that are real for adults watching that may not be good for kids to see (the Bandit weighing himself scene is my first thought here); and of course the show is also a show, The Sign is clearly written as a series finale and so lets some of the life teaching goal go to focus on being a more satisfying series resolution (likely for parents and even the crew specifically), even if it’s not realistic (which they do sort of lampshade in the episode itself.).
As for the wider online appeal I think it really does boil down to it being a genuinely cute, well written little kid’s show about a cartoon dog family who loves each other and commits to the bit 100%. It’s just enjoyable to watch because you very easily care about this family and I think most people would find their life aspirational, whether wishing to have had such a fun childhood, to be such a good parent, or both. I think people underestimate how compelling a story can be (regardless of the strict “target audience”) if it’s just well written and has likable characters. I really don’t think it needs to be deeper than “people like Bluey because it’s fun to watch this dog family like each other.” It doesn’t need to be anything more than that!
