Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) 2022.

definition from sentate: “the kids online safety act (KOSA) empowers kids and their parents to take over kids’ online experiences to protect their health and well-being”.

now, if you’re from the UK or any other country that’s not revolves around the US, you may not have an idea of what’s going on- like i did.

one of my anon’s sent a message to me last night, it was the 🦈 anon to be specific. and the message read “if KOSA gets passed, goodbye, you were my favourite blog.”

now when i first read the message i thought they were talking about another blog for a second, and i was a little confused. then, i decided to google what KOSA is.

KOSA is a bill that tried to get recognition back in 2022 that is focused on monitoring the internet of children. now, in 2023 it’s been re-introduced with some terrifying adaptations.

if the KOSA (2022) bill was to be accepted then:

-> filters would be installed to wipe the internet of anything that deemed ‘inappropriate’ for minors, which would silence them from accessing materials regarding suicidal prevention and LGBTQ+ content.

-> it would KOSA the power to shut down websites that discuss race, religion, sexuality- basically retract free speech and only allow access to content they approve of.

-> age verification and parental monitoring tools will be expanded and enhanced which are not only invasive, but can silence innocent victims of abusive environments for reaching out and finding help.

this whole bill is a sick and twisted way of trying to silence the younger generation, and attempt to stop them from seeking out the truth in the government’s lies and to have a voice in this world.

The language within KOSA has no been updated so that it's worse than before. It will allow for queer content to be censored more freely and threatens end to end encryption the same way the EARN IT act does. [Link to a video about it]

To quote the video "this has gone from a horrible bill to a nightmare bill."

KOSA will be going to markup Tomorrow, on Thursday, July 27th. Call your senators tomorrow. This can't wait any longer.

⚠ STOP THIS BULLSHIT!!! ⚠

EARN IT AND KOSA ARE BILLS THAT ENDANGER OUR RIGHTS TO PRIVACY, THEY DO NOT HELP IN WHAT THEY CLAIM TO SOLVE, THEY AIM FOR MASS CENSORSHIP, AND THEY ENDANGER MINORITIES SUCH AS ONLINE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITIES, SEX WORKERS, ETC.

The KOSA (Kids Online Safety Act) and the EARN IT Act, are U.S laws that if passed, will fucking wreck this country more than it already has.

Look, this account is not a political account, and I do not wish to entirely associate this art/reblog account with politics but this is an exception because it NEEDS to be said.

I'm going to try my best to keep it simple, and I will not get to FULLY elaborte on everything, I'm just letting you guys get the overall gist of it (check sources and links below!!!)

In a nutshell, these acts wish to remove encryption and allow everything you send, recieve, and look at to be viewed and surveilanced to an unethical and unconstitutional degree. Both of these acts claim to help children stay safe online, when really it will do the opposite. It will lead to mass surveilance and censorship online, and a lot of LGBTQIA+ content will also get censored unfairly. EARN IT, specifically, would actually make it MORE DIFFICULT for child sexual predators to get caught, because the pushed surveilance does not follow the 4th Amendment, making evidence gathered by these means unusable in an actual court.

I'm going to link more sources below for y'all to both read more about it from people who can elaborate better, and to help push back AGAINST KOSA AND EARN IT.

Ya'll please dont let the KOSA bill pass theyre not actually trying to protect children theyre literally trying to do the opposite They can take down forever AO3 bc of the recent DDoS attack and can ban wattpad, Tiktok, twitter and all that.

It was actually also denied in 2021/2022 as it doesnt pretty much allow freedom of speech So what does it do? If you look deeper into the matter theyre trying to limit children and LGBT+ stuff around the internet (basically banning them) as they will pretty much put sharing LGBT+ stuff with children = grooming (to them LGBT+ youth doesnt exist, theyre also pretty fucking transphobic)

You can look into the matter also your self just sign petitions and all that shit against it (Some require adresses so just put fake ones it still works) There are also many more videos informing abt this

Also not to mention the petition will force you to put personal info just to prove youre over 18 like home adress, drivers license all that stuff (also yeah the bill would know the homeadress even of minors if Im not mistaken, since if a parent puts it there the kid is no longer safe cuz they live with the parent so its also the kids adress)

Its also breaking the first amendment, since its also based off of religous belief and that shouldnt be put into the law and that is what the first amendment states. Not everyone has the same fucking beliefs
