what’s super interesting about isabela’s part in we don’t talk about bruno is that when you see it for the first time, you just think she’s being annoying and bragging about her perfect life. but after what else can i do, when you next rewatch we don’t talk about bruno you realise that isabela is complaining about bruno too because his prophecy for her didn’t come true (yet). she’s not living the life of ‘her dreams’, she’s living the life of everyone else’s dreams for her. not what she really wants. she’s not showing off, she’s agreeing that bruno was bad news because she feels his prophecy was a lie and hurt her by not coming true.

WOW!!! I CANNOT believe that the post I wrote about Encanto last night has gotten over 1.3K notes, and it hasn’t even been posted for 24 hours! 😁😮😵
Am I happy about it? You bet, because this is the best response I have had to an original post in over a year! And since Encanto is still a brand new movie that has come to Disney+, I have here another post discussing another topic I want to analyze from the movie.
During the song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”, Dolores sings three lyrics that reference to her hearing Bruno, despite his absence:
“I can always hear him.”
Tumblr media
“It’s like I hear him now.”

“I can hear him now.“

At first, it seems that she means that she is hearing Bruno in her mind, as he predicted her future years ago (that Mariano, the man she loves, would be betrothed to Isabela).
However, Dolores’s words are all revealed to be foreshadowing since, when Bruno returns after the destruction of the casita, Dolores sings, and admits, “Yo, I knew he never left. I heard him every day”, meaning that she knew he was living within the walls all the time due to her enhanced hearing.

So if Dolores was the only person who knew Bruno never actually left the casita, how come she never told her family?
My guess is that she figured out that Bruno left because he felt his gift only caused negative things and thus made him a burden to the family. The fact that he remained in the house made Dolores realize that her uncle still loved the family enough to stay behind, yet he also didn’t want to be found. Perhaps out of sympathy for him, she decided to keep his secret and respected his wish by not telling her family. I also think Dolores especially did not want to tell her grandmother, mother, and aunt what she knew because she feared causing a stir and upsetting them, especially Alma, since she (Alma) assumed Bruno left because he didn’t care about the family.
This is all what I think about it. Do you guys agree or have other thoughts about this? Feel free to share! 😉👍🏻

Right? Like ppl really out here thinking “thing you overheard that could heavily effect your family’s/the town’s livelihood through the thing you’ve all been conditioned to see your worth as (be it although already on thin fucking ice because Dolores obviously also heard abuela near the candle that night but y’know)” and “thing that quite possibly no one would believe you if you said, that happens to involve a family member that your own parents probably have pretty much heavily instilled in you from a young age that you must never speak of” are going to be treated the same.
And in the case of helping Bruno, I want you to ask yourself “What could Dolores have done to help Bruno?” Like she tells them that Bruno is in the walls, then what? She gets told she has an overactive imagination? She gets scolded for playing with their hearts? Or, if they believe her, they force him out before Mirabel is able to show them exactly how the family is crumbling? The family that is still crumbling to the point that he felt he NEEDED to hide in the walls is just going to do a 180 because he’s back? Come on now. And we’re just going to throw out the possibility that Dolores most likely heard Bruno mumbling vaguely about how this is his way to help the family and the girl that’s a part of the family that focuses too hard on your power being helpful wouldn’t leave him to it? Like y’all have to understand Dolores could probably HEAR the cracks in the family, but had no idea what to do about it.
ALSO, Bruno was obviously THERE when she got her power and would obviously KNOW about her power to hear him still there. It’s highly likely he could have asked her not to say anything, and she would have heard it.
I’ve seen ppl give Dolores shit for not being able to keep Mirabels secret but was able to keep Bruno a secret but let me lay down the facts
Mirables secret was about the magic itself and their lively hood that secret is a lot harder to keep
Bruno was literally an unspoken entity. If she heard her Uncle in the wall she either would have been told she’s crazy, been brushed off, or silenced
She literally mentions how she hears the rats talking in the wall so it wasn’t something she was really hiding
So yeah get off my girl

Why has no one drawn GlamDad Freddy giving his new adopted son Gregory a matching Faz-Ear headband so that they match? It’s free real estate if someone wants to draw this.
