Kamui was quiet a few moments. It was uncomfortable to know that Niles would have had to have done some pretty terrible things to get by if it made stronger men lose their meal. Kamui shifted a little, biting his bottom lip a moment before he looked back at Niles.

“How was it that you came into my brother’s service?” He finally asked, deciding to maybe skip past all the horrible things of Niles’ past.

“Oh, there’s no need to apologise. It’s been years, I’m hardly sensitive about my past anymore.” Niles waved a hand dismissively, the cold smile turning a little warmer. “Ask all you like, my lord.”

He enjoyed making people uncomfortable with little stories about his past, acting as if he cared about it a lot more than he really did. It was all behind him, now, nothing there could hurt him anymore unless he let it. And he didn’t intend to let it.

His tail swayed idly behind himself, ears now turned forward, his entire attention is on Takumi and whether or not he was going to go with him. He wanted to stretch out in the sun, but right now Takumi was practically his favorite person (yes, giving pets is exactly the reason), so it only made sense to ask him along. Maybe he’d be pet more too!

In the back of his rational mind, Kamui was wondering why being pet was so important right now.

Kamui-kitty? Well, it was better than any other name he could be called, so for now Kamui allowed it. Even if it was in such a patronizingly childish tone. It was the tone that got his tail twitching a bit in slight irritation. “Yes! Let’s go. C’mon.” He took Takumi’s hand, fingers lacing with his and giving a small tug.

Now Kamui is whining. Takumi cannot believe this. The older prince is upset that the petting has stopped, which makes Takumi almost tempted to start petting again, just to see if it would start the purring once more.

The Hoshidan prince blinks at the question. Go lay in the sun? Would he be able to even do that? Well, likely Takumi could. He’s free today, with no real worries on his plate. “Does… does Kamui-kitty want to nap?” he asks, sounding so uncharacteristically childish on purpose.

Kamui sighed quietly and rubbed at his forehead. "Ophelia..." he tried again, hoping she would see reason. It wasn't like they were going out to pick flowers. There were Faceless they had to be rid of and that could very easily lead to further injury if the young woman were to join them.

Kamui wasn't exactly willing to face the wrath of Odin should his daughter be hurt because Kamui had allowed her to come along.

"You should rest and let yourself heal," he tried again, this time attempting to play along with her flowery way of talking. "There is no shame in taking time to heal, a Chosen One like yourself should know you can't put yourself in further danger. Uhm. Should you come to further harm, your grand quest may come to an end." This was a little harder than Ophelia and Odin made it seem. "Your allies are all behind you, cheering for you to get well so that you may be in good enough health to..." Kamui paused. Man, what was he trying to say now? He'd gotten too mixed up in all this fantastical speech.

"Your allies will understand that you need time to rest, to gather your strength so that you may push on." He finished, feeling a little lame. Maybe he was trying too hard.

It was the commotion and yelling that'd caught Kamui's attention. At first he thought something was genuinely wrong which was why he'd started towards Takumi's room in the first place. Once he got there, however, he realized that this was all over a few lost pieces to a shogi set. It was kind of silly to get so worked up over something like this, but Kamui also found it a little endearing that Takumi was so frantic about this. Tearing up his room for the pieces wasn't getting him anywhere, though.

Just telling Takumi to chill wasn't going to work though and Kamui knew that all too well. He was moving before his thought had even finished, though, hands reaching to grasp Takumi's shoulders and press him back against the wall.

"Will you be quiet now?"

Those were the only words murmured before he'd pressed his lips to Takumi's, one hand removing itself from a shoulder to curl his fingers around the back of the archer's neck. It was a self-serving way to silence the other, yes, but he knew it'd work much better than putting a hand over the other's mouth or even telling him to quiet down.

Besides, Takumi's lips were surprisingly soft.

Kamui looked at the rings he’d been given and then to Takumi for further explanation, though it seemed pretty self explanatory. He made a small ‘huh’ sound and nodded to the rules of the game. It seemed simple enough. Just toss some rings at the pegs and maybe win something.

“So we take turns or you throw all of yours and then it’s my turn?” He asked, watching as Takumi tossed his first ring. Even though it had missed the original peg, Kamui was still impressed that the ring still landed on a peg. Accuracy wasn’t exactly his thing, though. Usually he swung at larger targets than little pegs in the ground. “That was still pretty good!” He said with a smile, looking back at Takumi before down at his own rings.

Well, that statement let Takumi know that Kamui is aware of his faking in regard to having no advantage. He blushes slightly before telling the game manager that he and Kamui would like to play. 

“The game is really simple, Kamui. You just have to toss the rings and make them land on the pegs.” he explains, narrowing his eyes as he held onto a ring and focused on his target, the very middle peg that has a different shade from the rest. “If you ring the middle peg, you’re an automatic winner.” And with that, he tossed the ring, which bounced off his target and landed on the peg next to it.

Kamui took a moment to pull in a few deep breaths and finally let go of Takumi to wipe his hands over his face. He was finally calming down and collecting himself. With a final sniffle, he ran his hands through his hair and let out his breath on a slow sigh.

“Thank you, Takumi,” he said softly, “it’s just worries and insecurities playing at my sleeping mind.” He cleared his throat and finally managed a little yawn, stifling it with a hand. Now the older prince simply looked worn out. “Really, though, thank you. Sorry for scaring you and...probably for squeezing you too hard.”

His breath stopped for a moment when Kamui squeezed him tighter. It is hard to breath period when being held like this, but to be squeezed makes it impossible. A soft sigh escapes when the older prince loosened his grip just enough to allow Takumi to breathe again.

“They.. they usually are so real.” he whispers, turning around to face Kamui. Takumi has a slight smile on his face, one that is meant to be comforting. He deals with nightmares often enough to know what to say right now to the older prince. “But they never are. And even the ones that seem like they could come true don’t.”

The stop in patting made Kamui whine. Actually whine. He pushed his forehead against Takumi’s shoulder and huffed, purring dying down. Why was it such a shock that he could purr? For some reason it felt as if he’d been able to do this all his life! He knew it was absurd, though, somewhere in the back of his mind he knew he could never purr before now.

“I was,” he huffed, almost pouting and ears twitching back a little. Kamui knew this was all so entirely out of his character, but this being a cat thing just felt so natural. Had someone hexed him or something?

“Takumi, you want to come lay in the sun with me?” He finally asked with a lazy little yawn, feeling a little calmer now.

Good. The nuzzling stopped. Now Takumi can properly think for how to fix this situation he’s found himself in, being clung to by a half cat dragon prince. Or rather, he would have been able to think had a low sound not caught the prince off guard. From the way it sounded and the direction it was coming from… “Kamui? Are you… purring?” he asks, stopping in his patting of the older prince to look at him in shock. It for sure sounds like the other is doing the purring. But that cannot be right. Even if he has the mannerisms and sort of appearance to a cat, would these changes be enough to make him purr?

The change in expression was noticed immediately. It was frightening how quickly Niles had gone from teasing to so chilly and serious. Once again Kamui got the feeling that perhaps he shouldn’t have asked about this. Niles was an interesting man, but what had made him that way? Clearly now he knew it was...less than simply off colour.

Kamui drew in a small shallow breath, cleared his throat, and shook his head slowly. “I’m... I’m so sorry,” he started, “I shouldn’t have pried. Perhaps a change in subject, this one is clearly a sore one.”

“Very well. You wish to know where I’m from, Lord Kamui?” Niles swung himself around on his bed to face the prince. A cold smile slipped onto his face.

“I was born in the slums of Nohr and abandoned by my parents as a child. I had to fend for myself- the things I did out there have put stronger men than you off their food, my lord. If you’ve eaten recently, you may want to stop questioning me or risk losing whatever meal you had.”
