Journalist and artist Shirin Barghi has created a gripping, thought-provoking series of graphics that not only examines racial prejudice in today’s America, but also captures the sense of humanity that often gets lost in news coverage. Titled “Last Words,” the graphics illustrate the last recorded words by Brown and other young black people — Trayvon Martin, Oscar Grant and others — who have been killed by police in recent years.

Factorials

Imagine an Art Centre built from a converted factory! 

Now imagine all the things you might want to do there...

There’s an easel, activity table, a couple of wall/floor mural potentials, as well as some paintable garage doors.

If art isn’t your thing & you’re more interested in reading or playing a game, there’s a library, chess tables, baby-foote, & ping pong.

If science is more your style, you can tinker with robotics or research to your heart’s content!

There’s also a basketball gym with a relaxed mezzanine that leads into a music space. 

And a sneaky DJ booth that overlooks the dancefloor in the main room on the ground floor. 

A simple lunchroom & kitchenette is hidden away at the back, with alley access for delivery trucks. It’s been mostly left as it was when the building was a workshop.

Even the pits have been converted into a sweet swimming spot!

Down in the basement there’s a bowling lane & a bar, making this locale a great place to meet your friends after work or uni.

The rumoured celebrity visit ended up being a wash out.

Genji stuffed his phone into his back pocket after speaking to his editor & tucked his camera into his bag. 

So much for getting paid this week, he thought sadly.

He headed indoors to get coffee, took one look at the machine & baulked. Laughter drifted out from the club rooms at the back. He smiled & headed towards the sound, hopeful for a lift to his spirits after the killer week he’d had.

Walking in the door, he was blown away. Her smile lit up the room like Christmas… maybe even Diwali. And her laugh…

He needed to know her.

It was crystal clear to everyone in the room that both Ana & Genji felt the same way. No one else could get a word in edgewise between their conversation... & none of them minded that at all.

There were days Ana was so grateful that her work colleagues were more intelligent than wise. She wasn’t sure if she could deal with the humiliation of them finding out she was sleeping on benches & coming to work early to shower while she scraped by from paycheck to paycheck.

Today was a great day though. Her boss had announced their team were getting a bonus in this week’s pay, thanks to the breakthrough they’d taken to council recently. They’d gotten a grant to cover the rest of the year’s research & the company could spare a little bit of money to add to their wages now they weren’t trying to cover the entirety of the costs of their research.

Ana decided that she’d go to Windenburg after work. There was a great camping store out that way where she could spend her bonus on a tent & similar supplies to be able to stay on her own property, plus while she was there she could treat herself to a decent meal in that trendy café she kept hearing about.

It turned out to be an even better idea than she could have imagined, despite the odds stacked up against it.

For starters, the coffee & service was horrendous.

The girl behind the counter had no barista training, had no idea what a cloth was let alone how to use one. There was so much grime built up on the machine that it had its own ecosystem. The decent meal was entirely off the cards.

Then there was the rumour that some visiting celebrity was possibly going to check out the sights in this neighbourhood. The place was overcrowded with folks hoping to snag an autograph or a photo for their simstagram.

Gods help them if they try the coffee, Ana thought snidely to herself.  

There were a good couple social spaces at this café though, which was one of its draw cards. Ana headed to the back room; there were books & boardgames back there & she could do with a bit of fun...

My skin was itching while words crawled beneath it & suddenly I’d found i had written a drabble length story. So I sat down, loaded the game & built the house & the character to go with the story that apparently needed telling.

While these days the persecution is less widespread, especially in Western communities, there is still the issue of location & real estate. Not everywhere can be lush & vibrant. Places need to exist in opposition. Balance needs to occur. Oasis Springs is one of those places. It's an Offset Location. A balance point for the natural order. 

But everywhere needs a witch. For this place, that witch is me.

Being a witch is not an occupation to take lightly. It's not a career one holds because you want to take it easy. It's not all riding around on broomsticks & cackling at the moon. Being a witch is about never having downtime you can make plans for. It's visitors at all hours of the night: my gran is sick; my wife is struggling in labour; my cow is struggling in labour. In a small community, witches wear more than just a pointy black hat. In these places, witches are the go to for any issue without a dedicated service provider.

No hospital? The witch can be your healer/bone setter/midwife. No vet clinic? Same. Need herbicides or fertiliser? Yep. Witch.

We are the door you knock on to ask for help, regardless of the time or date. And when it's a rural, isolated community, this is even more the case.

Here in this Balance environment, I tend the sick, the sad, the broken, the hopeful, & the dying. I look after the entire community; the animals, plants, humans, & non humans too.

You may think the landscape & lifestyle are nothing but dry, inhospitable nothingness, but it's Home to many. And it's important to the planet herself.

The sand though. The sand is an ultra fine grit that's almost a dust... & it gets in everything. And because it's in everything, there can be no such thing as white. 

Perhaps that's the difference between wizard magic & witchcraft. Wizards might focus on allowing whites to happen, throwing a bit of prestidigitation around for good measure. Us witches? We work our healing & helping around the reddish beige tones & get on with the things that need doing. Balance.

Ana looked at the very official document in her hand.

She read the lawyer’s correspondence a couple of times in disbelief. Her favourite (though mildly... eccentric) great aunt had not only passed away but had also left her a huge block of land. It was perfectly timed, given the week from hell that she’d been having. The house fire in her rental home had left her with nothing but the clothes on her back & finding a new place... well... let’s just say the rental market is a harsh place.

Trying to act like she wasn’t struggling with a lack of Fixed Address was hard. This winter was proving brutal & the local community outreach centres were struggling to accommodate those in need.  Libraries were good, so long as no one noticed you napping between the stacks. 

The land her Great Aunt had left her was going to be great... once she had something... well... on it besides the strange but apparently necessary heirloom armour.

I fired up my legacy last night

It had been two months almost to the day since I last played their save. I hadn’t wanted to ruin the save file with the toddler, vampire, & genetics bugs that came with Island Living & was waiting for fixes to release... & in missing their crazy, annoying, constant neediness I realised how much I do adore this family.

Which made me consider I should actually share them beyond our tiny whatsapp group. Generation three has the helm at the moment, so there’s a good backlog of stuff to get through before i stand a chance at content catching up to my gameplay XD

Also, everyone needs a little Hilda in their lives.

So... I guess... watch this space for the Rzeski legacy?

Resharing this because I feel like it’s important to understand. I’m not a huge fan of the patch (where are the much needed fixes?!), but this info about the new CAS items takes some of the edge off.

Are you fucking kidding me! EA made some of the stuff from packs base game compatible? We paid for that shit!

Ok first of all, there’s no need to swear at me, I had nothing to do with the decision.

Second, I understand why you might be mad about that, I was a little annoyed too when I found out they were doing this BUT here’s the thing, and this is very important because this wasn’t really explain properly (imo) and this is where I think people are getting confused; they’re not really base game.

They definitely look like they are because there’s no pack icons on them and I don’t know if that was a mistake or not but the point is; they’re definitely not fully base game.

Take the beanie that came with Get to Work for example. Three new swatches were added to it and if you don’t own Get to Work you will ONLY have access to those three swatches and none of the original swatches that came with the pack. Understand?

So the way I see it, you still paid for that beanie in Get to Work PLUS you now have three new swatches for it FOR FREE. Anyone who didn’t pay for Get to Work only gets the three new swatches.

Sounds fair to me 😊

SHELFLESSNESS LOTS’A’SLOTS OVERRIDE – by amoebae

I love this shelving unit, but it had a pathetic amount of slots. Now it has a lot more. A heck of a lot more. Lots of small, medium and large slots for you to go crazy with. You may need to enable move objects to use them all.

Comes in all the original swatches. Feel free to use this if you want to recolour the shelves and include it in your package (see my TOU).

I am going to recolour this in Image Spectra probably tomorrow.

Let’s get to it shall we? =) before we continue I’d like to express my gratitude to a group of people who helped me out in lots of ways! <333 English is not my first language so their help has been highly appreciated!

Patreon.

In my opinion the best method to monetize CC if you want to be sure you get something in return for your time and effort! Patreon has become a widely accepted way in the community to donate money towards some of their fav creators. As a creator, it does not cost you a dime in advance! Their fees will be extracted from the donations you received. I am very pleased with what you get on their site! You can go all out; upload HD images, video’s, create goals you can reach with you patron’s, etc. The interface is easy to use and the best part is (to me) that you don’t have to spend any time worrying about collecting payments, etc. It’s all taken care of. You have to find a workflow, balance that works best for you and your followers. Some creators release their cc after patreon every week, 2 weeks, and some once per month. This is completely up to you. I personally try to release stuff not later than 2 weeks after Patreon. This is what works best for my personally.

NOTE: Patreon Exclusive CC tends to get re-uploaded by other people since it’s locked behind a paywall then. It's also against EA tou but hey… it’s all up to you! Best way to avoid all this (In my opinion!) is to be transparent about when you will release your work and don’t go exclusive.

PayPal / Ko-Fi.

a completely different way of trying to get something back for your time and effort since it’s an optional donation. I used (still use) PayPal a lot in the past / present and it’s a very safe way of getting something back. Ko-Fi is very similar and friends tell me lots of positive things about it.I use both of them a lot to donate to creators I love! I really hope I can expand my donating ways to Patreon as well! I know that it is a non-committal way of monetizing CC which can make it less attractive for some creators to use but the donations I got from when I started with it (when I was a smaller simblr) till this day far exceed the $0,02485 dollars you get per click (highest payout rate, USA) on Adfly.

I personally do not donate to a creator that uses adfly-only links. My mindset behind that is; you’re apparently satisfied with the funds you raise with Adfly. I’m not going to support you on that. What I mean with this sentence is; creating goodwill towards your followers is sooo much more valuable! It has definitely paid off for me, from when I was a smaller simblr, till now.

Adsense.

Last but most definitely not least! Adsense can have 2 scenario’s depending on your tech levels I will explain both of them;

You’re unable to code your own website (me too!). I mean, I know html a little but I’m far from able to create my own website! If you’re like me, you most likely have to purchase a package at one of these companies; Wix, Wordpress. There could be more options out there but i’m only talking these about 2 since I have experience with those. You need to purchase a paid package to be able to run Adsense on your website, the free packages do not allow you to do that. The fees are very different between Wix and Wordpress! I believe that Wordpress is cheaper(!) than Wix. I’ve been at Wix from the beginning and moving a website out of their company is made really hard for customers (to prevent them from leaving of course) + I would loose my URL. That being said; Wix has a drag and drop html editor that lets you customize your site endlessly. Wordpress however provides better care for wordpress sites via plugins etc. Pro’s and con’s you have to decide whats best for you!

NOTE: Blogger is also an option. I have no personal experience with it unfortunately but loooong ago I looked into it and i thought it also has a free option + running Adsense? This is speculation at best! I’m not sure about this! Though it’s worth mentioning it. Google is your friend in this case =) Add-on infoby Jennie, thank you! <3 Adsense for Blogger is free, but you need to fit the criterias set by Google to be able to use it (Blogger is owned by Google).

You’re a solid coder that can code your own website. I’ve looked into this in the past and to me it seems that you only have to purchase a domain in that case. With Adobe Dreamweaver or other coding softwares for websites you then create your own website and include the main code for Adsense. Along with the codes for the ads itself (where you want them, which size, which sort of ads, etc)

From this point it’s the same for both scenarios! To be eligible for the program your site needs to be around for a few months and have generated some traffic (visitors)! I don’t know the exact numbers Adsense expect to see before letting you into their program. I also read on their forums back then it depends on more factors than just pageviews. It depends on what kind of website you have, what kind of content it hosts, etc. But when I started I had maybe 2000 followers on Tumblr? So its definitely not 100,000 pageviews in a month or something like that. Sucks that I installed my Analytics account only a year ago otherwise I could look up what my monthly traffic was back in the days. Bottom line of Adsense; In the long term this will generate income even if you’re not releasing stuff everyday. Which is why I am so fond of Adsense. You need to put in so time and effort + money in my case but it has paid me back every penny I put into it! some months I generate 50 bucks and sometimes more or less. It depends on your own activity and factors you can’t always control. For example; I just saw (in Analytics) that my Chablis Coat Product Page has spiked yesterday. This can be due to; Tumblr picking up on my Chablis Coat post or someone on youtube doing a CC haul video. These are estimated guesses tho! In 99% of the cases I have no clue why something gets flooded with visitors.

Some perks of NOT using Adfly / Short.e / Shorteners

Create sustainable bond with you followers for the long term.

Increase chances of people donating / supporting your work.

Increase your download count.

Increase site visitation levels & possible Adsense revenues.

Indirectly; increase you’re followers count.

which leads to; more people who will likely support you / donate.

this upwards cycle does not have an end to it if you make the right choices! points 2. till 7. can repeat itself endlessly.

Meaning; every positive change you make affects the next step in this cycle. Same as it works for a downwards spiral I guess. One thing for sure; Adfly users won’t experience the perks above to its full extend than users that don’t use it. Adfly stagnates blog growth in general.

Sorry for the long post but I really hope I was able to give you guys some insights on other alternatives for Adfly / Short.e / Shorteners in general. Most importantly; it’s all up to you! Do as you see fit. All I wanted to say with these 2 posts is, try to be mindful to your followers when you make a decision. Only they made it possible for you to monetize your CC in the first place!

I will accept any fall out regarding this post. before we continue I’d like to express my gratitude to a group of people who helped me out in lots of ways! <333 English is not my first language so their help has been highly appreciated! I could not silently stand by anymore while children, grown ups, friends… everyone actually risks to pay lots of money to save their PC’s from destruction for $0,02485 dollars. Per click. I did the math in the highest payout rate, USA. I made a short video to demonstrate what happened when I clicked on Adfly / short.e links. Best to be watched on Desktop / iPad / bigger screens than phone.

Important to know

I'm on an iMac. This makes it sooo much less bad for me than Windows Users. Also the only reason why I was able to do this without risking my computer. OS X pretty much has an build-in ironclad protection to files shown in the video. 

Most of the people in this community are on a PC which makes them so much more vulnerable to all the shit that auto downloads and in some cases installs itself, without you having any say in it, as you can see.

As you can see in the vid; I did not click on the files that started downloading themselves. Know that Windows users are even more at risk(!) since these files (virus exe) can start installing themselves on their own. I have to give my iMac a password to install ANY software. That’s why I wasn’t at risk during the demo’s.

I have to admit that the demo’s in the vid are DEFINITELY not worst case scenarios! Please be mindful of that! I freed up a lot of desktop space as you can see for the endless pop-up ads to appear which ‘unfortunately’ did not occur this time around. In lots cases I get lost in an endless loop of shortners (never arriving at the promised directory) or a massive amounts of pop ups open forcing me to close the shortner window altogether. I cannot even comprehend how much worse it is for Windows users!

Just don't click on the ads! Only stupid / too young / non tech-savvy /old people click on them. If you don’t click on them it’s OK. So it’s a non issue.

These are literal comments I’ve seen recently and in the past regarding this topic. THIS IS NOT TRUE! as you can see I did not click on ANY of the ads unless they required to be closed through the ad ‘close’ section to make sure the timer continues to run. Through the years of development for these ads; most of them require you to click 'close’ (engage with them) before the countdown of Adfly/Short.e continues to run again. How am I supposed to get to your content if i can't click 'close’ then?! 

Also; the extra tabs that open need to be closed first before the timer starts running again. And when you close them they can auto download a file you didn’t clicked on. In the past they were less aggressive I agree. You could “safely” wait out those 5 sec and get to the designated URL of the CC. In most cases this isn’t an option anymore.

Regarding this post: I’ve said everything I wanted to say about this topic. I will not engage in endless discussions in the comments. tbh I might not even engage at all since I don’t have anything more/new to say about this.

How the hell am I supposed to get something in return for all that hard work I put into my CC then ?!

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! 

New Simblr....kinda....sort of...

Hi! 

I’m Sixamsims and I’ve rebooted my Simblr here on Tumblr. I’ve been a part of the Sim Community for about a 1000 years. I’ve taken a couple of years break from posting, but I’m back and slowly getting back into my game again.  Stricly Maxis Match and I only use recolours of in game content or conversions from TS3 to TS4. This applies to hair, clothing and furnishings etc. I am also a WCIF friendly Simblr.

I mainly Sim with my OTP, Sybok and Louise. You may or may not have heard of them. I write fanfic about them and even more awesome, they are in the Star Trek Verse! Most of my Sims are Star Trekkish, but I also do make-overs of the Premades in TS4. 

I have a huge obsessions with Vulcans. I can speak Vulcan, I know pretty much everything about Vulcans (I’m Vulcansexual). I recreate Vulcans from within the Star Trek Verse and I also create new pointy eared loves to fill my neighbourhoods.

I also create Galaxy Pets (and plan to do more). Space themed pets for your everyday Sims or Alien Sims. Have a favorite galaxy? Let me know and I can create a Space pet for you!
